Red Sox acquired INF Justin Henry from the Tigers.

Henry is compensation for infielder Jeff Kobernus, who was selected by the Red Sox in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft and then flipped to Detroit. Henry, 27, owns a weak .293/.372/.362 career batting line in the minors.

Athletics claimed INF/OF Danny VAlencia off waivers from the Blue Jays.

Valencia was designated for assignment by Toronto in a somewhat surprising move after the July 31 trade deadline. He's having a very good season and drew interest from a range of teams (including the White Sox, Rangers, and Orioles) on the waiver wire. The 30-year-old probably isn't going to carry a ton of fantasy value in Oakland.

A.J. Burnett has been diagnosed with a strained flexor tendon in his right arm.

The veteran right-hander was sent for an MRI on Monday after complaining of inflammation in his pitching elbow during his last start July 31 against the Reds. There was some concern about ligament damage, but Monday's MRI showed his UCL is intact. Burnett will undergo treatment instead of surgery and is hoping to return to the Pirates later this year. J.A. Happ has taken over the rotation vacancy in Pittsburgh.

Rays purchased the contract of 1B/3B Richie Shaffer from Triple-A Durham.

Shaffer has hit .265/.359/595 with 16 home runs in 55 games this season at the Triple-A level. He was the 25th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft and could slide his way into semi-regular playing time if things go well out of the gate. The 24-year-old should be on fantasy watch lists.

Rays optioned LHP Matt Moore to Triple-A Durham.

Moore went 1-3 with an 8.78 ERA in six starts after returning July 2 from Tommy John surgery. The 26-year-old southpaw clearly needs to build more arm strength and the Rays want him to do it as a starter in the minors rather than in the bullpen as a mop-up man. Tampa Bay has some upcoming off days and will roll with a four-man rotation for the time being.
Aug 3 - 2:26 PM

Andrelton Simmons will undergo an MRI on his injured right thumb Monday in Atlanta.

It's being called a sprain for now, but there's some concern that the injury is more severe. "I'm hoping, but I'm always a glass half-full kind of guy," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sunday when asked whether his shortstop is facing an extended absence. Simmons suffered the thumb injury Saturday while diving for a ball.

Jon Gray will make his major league debut on Tuesday night against the visiting Mariners.

There have been rumors for weeks that Gray was on the verge of a callup, and the well-built 23-year-old right-hander is now finally getting his shot. Gray, the second overall pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft, owns a 2.90 ERA and 82 strikeouts over his last 80 2/3 innings at Triple-A Albuquerque. He's MLB-ready and one of the top young starters in baseball, though Coors Field can be hell on pitchers of all profiles. Fantasy owners might want to take it start-by-start with him out of the gate.

Lucas Duda continued his home run barrage on Sunday, blasting a two-run homer off Jordan Zimmermann in Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Nationals.

With the victory, the Mets completed their sweep of the three-game weekend series against the Nationals and pulled even with their division rival for the top spot in the National League East. Duda has been on an absolute tear at the plate in recent days, blasting nine home runs and driving home 12 runs in his last eight ballgames. He finished the night 2-for-4 and is now hitting .249/.348/.489 with 21 homers and 50 RBI on the season.
Aug 2 - 11:04 PM

Noah Syndergaard delivered another dominant effort in Sunday's win over the Nationals, allowing two runs on seven hits over eight strong innings.

He racked up nine strikeouts on the impressive evening without issuing a walk. The only damage against him came on a pair of solo home runs, one by Anthony Rendon in the first inning and the other from Yunel Escobar in the sixth. The 22-year-old now boasts a 2.66 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 100/20 K/BB ratio over 94 2/3 innings on the season. He'll look to continue his dominance on Saturday when he takes on the Rays in Tampa Bay.

Mark Canha hit a walk-off double to propel the A's to a 2-1 win over the Indians on Sunday.

Canha had not recorded a hit entering the 10th inning, but his two-out double off of Indians reliever Cody Allen scored Sam Fuld from first to give the A's a low-scoring win. Canha's hitting .229/.292/.381 with eight homers and 35 RBI in 236 at-bats this season.

Sonny Gray pitched a typically strong game in a no-decision against the Indians on Sunday, yielding one run on four hits over seven innings before watching his team take a 2-1 win in 10 innings.

Gray had issues with his control, as he walked four, but he also struck out seven. The lone run to score against the All-Star came in the first inning, when he allowed a sacrifice fly to Jerry Sands. Otherwise, Gray kept the Indians at bay over his seven innings of work. He's been money all season and currently holds a 2.12 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 131/40 K/BB ratio across 152 2/3 innings. A home date with the Astros is up next on his schedule.
Aug 2 - 7:56 PM

Andre Ethier hit a walk-off home run to cap Sunday's 5-3, 10-inning win over the Angels.

Ethier homered twice in the game. The first--a solo shot in the eighth inning--gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead. They would squander this advantage, though, which just offered Ethier another chance to shine. In the bottom of the 10th inning, he delivered again with a two-run homer, and this time, the Angels would not have an opportunity to respond. The veteran outfielder is slashing .280/.362/.480 with 12 homers and 37 RBI in 271 at-bats.
