Desmond Jennings (knee) remains sidelined on Tuesday.

Jennings has been out since last Friday because of soreness in his left knee. An MRI was taken over the weekend and showed no structural damage, but the outfielder told reporters Tuesday that he hasn't felt much improvement. It's not clear when he might return.

Kolten Wong (neck) is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Pirates.

Wong banged his head on the ground Sunday while trying to make a diving catch. A concussion has been ruled out, but his neck is sore and he's still considered day-to-day despite slugging a game-tying two-run homer in the Cardinals' defeat of the Pirates on Labor Day.

An MRI taken Tuesday on Anthony Rizzo's lower back revealed a muscle strain.

Cubs manager Rick Renteria acknowledged to reporters Tuesday that Rizzo would be placed on the 15-day disabled list if rosters hadn't expanded, so it's going to be a while before the first baseman returns to the lineup. He has been sidelined since August 26.
Sep 2 - 4:47 PM

Pirates recalled OF Gregory Polanco from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Polanco was sent to the minors on August 25 in the midst of a 1-for-30 slump. The Pirates need him to get back on track offensively as they try to work their way to the top of the National League Central standings. The 22-year-old outfielder is capable of carrying significant fantasy value down the stretch if he gets right.

Carlos Gomez is out of the Brewers' starting lineup against on Tuesday night against the Cubs.

Gomez injured his left wrist on Sunday afternoon in San Francisco and hasn't played since. It's thought to be a minor issue, but the struggling Brewers wouldn't hold him out of the lineup unless they absolutely have to.

Maikel Franco will make his major league debut Tuesday against the Braves.

Franco, who was called up after Monday's game, will bat seventh and play third base Tuesday with left-hander Mike Minor on the hill for Atlanta. The 22-year-old might not play everyday in September, but he should be on the radar in mixed fantasy leagues.

Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild said that Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) was "fine" after long toss and throwing off flat ground on Tuesday.

Tanaka was briefly shut down last week due to "general soreness" in his pitching arm, but he appears to be back on track. Still, Rothschild said that the Yankees are taking things "day-to-day" with him, so he's still a long way from pitching in a game before the end of the year.

Blue Jays transferred INF Brett Lawrie from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Lawrie landed on the disabled list in early August with an oblique strain and this move rules him out for the rest of the season. The 24-year-old batted .247/.301/.421 with 12 home runs and 38 RBI over 70 games this season and his inability to stay healthy has surely played a part in why he has failed to meet expectations since his impressive showing in 2011.

Adam LaRoche left Monday's game against the Dodgers after aggravating his back injury.

LaRoche missed a game last week due to back soreness, but the injury is worse this time. He'll be re-evaluated on Tuesday before the Nationals know how much time he'll miss. LaRoche was hitless in three at-bats Monday before exiting.

Denard Span homered twice and knocked in three runs in Monday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers.

Span launched a solo shot in the third inning and added a solo shot in his next at-bat in the fifth. It was his second career multi-homer game and his first since 2008. After hitting just one homer over his first 122 games this season, he now has three in his last five games. Span has enjoyed a fantastic season, putting up a .299/.349/.416 batting line with 85 runs scored and 27 stolen bases over 127 games.
