Rangers re-signed RHP Jacob Brigham to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Brigham was non-tendered by the Rangers earlier this month. He'll serve as organizational depth in 2013.

Michael Foltynewicz limited the Giants to one run in 7 2/3 innings as the Braves won 3-1 on Saturday.

He struck out six while yielding only five hits and one base-on-balls in the excellent outing. His one mistake came on a solo shot by Brandon Crawford. Foltynewicz was fortunate to be facing a Giants lineup missing Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, Hunter Pence and Eduardo Nunez but looked great nonetheless. He is now 7-5 with a 4.30 ERA and 89 punchouts in 102 2/3 innings. The hard-throwing right-hander has solidified himself as a major league starting pitcher and hushed those who said he would be better off in the bullpen.

A.J. Griffin turned in six shutout innings to beat the Indians 7-0 on Saturday.

He gave up five singles and issued one free pass while punching out six in the stellar effort. His teammates handed him a big early lead and in return he kept the Indians from mounting any sort of challenge. Griffin is now 6-3 with a 4.39 ERA in his first season with the Rangers.

Anthony DeSclafani gave up just four hits while striking out nine in a dominant complete-game shutout as the Reds beat the Diamondbacks 13-0 on Saturday.

All four hits were singles. The Diamondbacks were powerless against him all night. It was the first complete game of his career. DeSclafani missed the first two months of the season on the disabled list but has pitched at an ace-like level ever since returning. He is now 8-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 14 starts. He has 84 punchouts and 20 bases-on-balls in 94 1/3 innings.

Hernan Perez homered twice and drove home four runs on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Brewers to victory over the Pirates.

Perez got the scoring started with a three-run blast off Jameson Taillon in the first inning, and he added a solo shot off the right-hander in the third. That gave the Brewers an early 5-1 lead, though they were unable to hold onto it. Perez has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season, slashing .281/.308/.470 with 13 homers, 47 RBI and 26 stolen bases. He has come from nowhere to develop into a very capable five-category producer in mixed leagues.
Aug 27 - 11:32 PM

Dallas Keuchel gave up two runs in seven innings of work as the Astros beat the Rays 6-2 on Saturday.

His wildly inconsistent season took a swing in the right direction tonight. He was unscored upon until the fifth inning when ninth-place hitter Bobby Wilson took him deep with a runner aboard. Keuchel gave up nine hits and a walk while generating four strikeouts on the night. His record improves to 9-12 with a 4.55 ERA in 168 innings.
Aug 27 - 10:58 PM

Pirates general manager Neal Huntington confirmed that Gerrit Cole will get his elbow checked out.

Huntington also confirmed that Cole will miss "at least" one start, depending on how Sunday's exam turns out. Steven Brault will start in his place Monday against the Cubs.
Aug 27 - 10:53 PM

Andrew Cashner was scratched from Sunday's start against the Padres due to a blister on his finger.

Cashner pitched well despite dealing with the blister during his most recent start and now he'll miss a matchup against his former team. Justin Nicolino will start in his place.
Aug 27 - 10:41 PM

Clayton Richard was outstanding in Saturday's victory over the Marlins, allowing eight hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings.

Richard struck out three on the night. He wasn't completely dominant and allowed plenty of baserunners, but was able to bear down and make big pitches when he needed to and didn't allow the Marlins to mount any serious threats. The veteran southpaw will bring a 3.51 ERA and 1.62 WHIP into Saturday's matchup against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. He could be worth a look as a spot starter in deeper mixed leagues.
Aug 27 - 10:37 PM

Noah Syndergaard turned in a dominant start Saturday against the Phillies by tossing seven innings of one-run ball as part of a 12-1 blowout victory.

Syndergaard actually trailed early after giving up a solo homer to Freddy Galvis in the top of the third inning, but he shut down the Phillies’ lineup from there. He gave up just two hits on the night while walking two and striking out seven. He retired 13 out of the final 14 batters he faced. After a long stretch of uncertainty, Syndergaard has turned the corner with back-to-back dominant starts. He now owns an impressive 2.55 ERA and 184/34 K/BB ratio over 155 innings. A crucial start against the Marlins awaits him next week.
Aug 27 - 10:24 PM

Jose Quintana was brilliant in Saturday's victory over the Mariners, striking out eight over 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball.

Quintana scattered five hits and one walk on the evening. The White Sox have struggled to provide him with run support for most of the season, and on a night where he didn't need much they poured on nine runs for him. Now 11-9 on the season, he'll head into Thursday's start against the Twins in Minnesota with a fantastic 2.77 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 150/39 K/BB ratio over 172 1/3 innings on the season.
Aug 27 - 10:09 PM

Brandon Belt was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup against the Braves due to a stiff neck.

It's probably safe to call him day-to-day. Conor Gillaspie will fill in at first base and bat fifth.
