Phillies signed LHP Cesar Jimenez to a minor league contract.

Jimenez posted a 5.24 ERA over 44 2/3 innings of relief this past season in the minor leagues. He seems doubtful to climb his way to the big leagues with Philly.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Indians have "stayed in touch" with Mike Napoli.

But there seems to be a very healthy market for the 35-year-old free agent slugger, who tallied 34 home runs and 101 RBI for Cleveland in 2016. He struggled down the stretch and into the postseason, but Napoli figures to find a multi-year deal this winter at a nice price point. Count the Red Sox, Yankees, and Rangers among his other current suitors.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Blue Jays are in talks with free agent Steve Pearce.

Pearce isn't very trustworthy as an everyday player, but he did slash .309/.411/.617 against left-handed pitchers in 2016. As a part-time first baseman, DH, and corner outfielder, he'd make sense for just about any American League club. Pearce did have surgery to repair flexor tendons in his right forearm in September, but it sounds like he will be ready for spring training.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Rangers are eyeing Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton.

Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer wrote last week that the Cincinnati front office "would have to be really, really motivated by an offer" to move the speedy Hamilton, but the Rangers have the kind of young talent to make something happen. Hamilton is a .248/.297/.334 career hitter over four major league seasons, but his speed and his defensive range in the outfield can be game-changing elements.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers are among the teams talking to the Padres about Yangervis Solarte.

Los Angeles is hoping to retain third baseman Justin Turner, but Turner is one of the biggest fish on a weak free agent market and is drawing heavy interest from many other clubs. Solarte would be a pretty good fallback plan, coming off a year in which he slashed 286/.341/.467 with 15 homers and 71 RBI in 443 plate appearances as the Padres' primary cleanup hitter. Solarte, 29, is under control via salary arbitration through 2019.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Nationals are trying to acquire both Andrew McCutchen and Chris Sale and believed that they have the necessary prospects to do so.

Many had speculated that it would be a one or the other scenario, as it's hard to imagine the Nationals can land both superstars without parting with Trea Turner. It looks increasingly likely that McCutchen will be traded this winter, and there's a good chance that it happens at the winter meetings. The Rangers are also known to be in the hunt for the star center fielder.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Marlins "seem intent on trying to beat some big-market teams for the services of one of the 'big three' closers."

The Marlins' interest in Kenley Jansen had been reported previously, but Heyman says that Miami is showing interest in Aroldis Chapman and Mark Melancon, as well, in their hopes of building a "super bullpen." Melancon's market has been heating up of late and the feeling had been that he was down to the Nationals and Giants, but it looks like the Marlins might sneak in there.

MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that if the Braves trade for a top starter, Chris Archer is the "most likely" target.

It's been reported that the Braves are one of the main suitors for Chris Sale, but Bowman says the White Sox are insisting on Dansby Swanson being included in any deal and the Braves consider that a non-starter. That said, it doesn't sound like Atlanta is close to anything on Archer, either, with Bowman adding that so far "the Rays' ask far exceeds the Braves' comfort zone." It could all be posturing at this point, of course.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that Pedro Alvarez is on the Red Sox's radar.

Heyman says that Boston is "favoring a short-term deal" as they look to fill David Ortiz's vacated designated hitter spot, so they appear likelier to sign an Alvarez, Matt Holliday or Mike Napoli rather than an Edwin Encarnacion. Alvarez batted .249/.322/.504 with 22 homers over just 376 plate appearances for the Orioles this past season.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe hears that the Astros would listen to offers for Evan Gattis.

The Astros acquired Brian McCann earlier this offseason and also reportedly have a deal in place for Carlos Beltran, so it's not a surprise that they're willing to listen on Gattis. The slugger hit 32 home runs last season, although he sported a .319 on-base percentage and is very much an all-or-nothing hitter. Gattis will make $5.2 million in 2017 and will be arbitration-eligible for a final time next winter.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have contacted Matt Holliday's agent, Scott Boras.

The Cardinals declined Holliday's $17 million option after he .246/.322/.461 in an injury-shortened 2016, but there appears to be a decent market for him as a potential bounce-back candidate. The Red Sox' rivals, the Yankees, are another club that's shown interest and Holliday's former club, the Rockies, have also been mentioned as a potential landing spot. Holliday will turn 37 in January.

MLB Network's Jon Morosi reports that the Blue Jays and Indians are showing interest in Mitch Moreland.

Morosi says that "others" are interested, as well. Moreland batted just .233/.298/.422 overall last season, but he popped 22 home runs and won a Gold Glove for his work at first base. The 31-year-old isn't the first choice for either the Jays or Indians, but he qualifies as a decent Plan B.
