According to Jim Bowden of ESPN.com, Zack Greinke has the ability to opt out of his Dodgers' contract after three years and can opt at the end of the season in a year he's traded.

The Dodgers didn't want to give him a no-trade clause, so this is the compromise they came up with. It's not the first time they've given an opt-out clause, as J.D. Drew opted out of the final three years of a five-year deal with the Dodgers. Greinke's six-year, $147 million contract will become official after he passes a physical.

Kyle Hendricks tossed seven scoreless innings Tuesday as the Cubs shut out the Pirates 3-0.

Hendricks scattered three hits and a walk while striking out four, earning his 13th win of the season in the process. He also increased his lead in earned run average, with his 2.09 ERA best among all qualified pitchers. That's quite a feather in the cap of the 26-year-old, who was arguably the least-coveted Cubs starter, for fantasy purposes, coming into the season. Hendricks has certainly shook that reputation, and he'll look to further his league lead when the Cubs face the Giants on Sunday.

Rajai Davis went 3-for-5 with a big three-run homer in Tuesday's victory over the Twins.

The Twins knocked Josh Tomlin out of the game after the righty retired just five batters, but Davis delivered with a three-run shot off of Andrew Albers in the second inning and Francisco Liriano doubled in the go-ahead run in the fourth. Davis entered the game in a 2-for-27 funk at the plate, but he's now extended his career high with 12 home runs.

Curtis Granderson homered twice and drove in three runs as the Mets beat the Marlins 7-4 on Tuesday.

Granderson didn't even start Tuesday's game, entering as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning. He slugged a solo homer in that at-bat, and an inning later Granderson cracked a two-run dinger to give him 22 homers on the year. They've come with the usual Granderson caveat of an inconsistent .223/.314/.433 batting line in 122 games. He also has just 38 RBI somehow.

An MRI taken Tuesday on Cameron Maybin's injured left thumb showed no major damage.

Maybin tweaked the previously-sprained thumb Monday while attempting to steal second base in the fifth inning and was held out of action Tuesday. He probably won't play Wednesday either, but this shouldn't be an extended absence because it's just a bruise. Great news for the Tigers.
Aug 30 - 10:45 PM

Hanley Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Rays.

Hanley got the Red Sox on the board in the fifth and extended their lead with an RBI single in the sixth, but the Rays rallied with three late runs. Ramirez has picked up seven hits -- including a pair of home runs -- over his last four games to push his season line to .281/.353/.465.

Max Scherzer flirted with a no-hitter again on Tuesday, ultimately allowing three hits and a walk with 11 strikeouts over eight frames in a 3-2 win over the Phillies.

The Phillies didn't collect their first hit until Freddy Galvis led off the sixth inning with a double. Ryan Howard then broke up the shutout with a two-run homer in the seventh. Still, that doesn't diminish what was another dominant outing from Scherzer, who now has a whopping 12 double-digit strikeout games this season and a league-leading total of 238 Ks. He has a juicy two-start week next week against the Braves and Phillies.
Aug 30 - 10:27 PM

Matt Wieters hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning of Tuesday's victory over the Blue Jays.

Michael Saunders knotted things up in the seventh with a two-run shot, but Wieters then put the O's back on top with a two-run blast of his own. It was his second longball in his last six games and 12 of the season. Steve Pearce and Manny Machado also homered for Baltimore on Tuesday.

Rays released OF Desmond Jennings.

Jennings was placed on release waivers Sunday and is now officially a free agent. The 29-year-old outfielder batted just .200/.281/.350 with seven home runs and two stolen bases in 65 games this season with Tampa Bay, but he should be able to latch on with a new organization rather quickly because of his past success.
Aug 30 - 9:23 PM

Corey Seager (wrist) is expected to return to the Dodgers' lineup on Wednesday.

Seager is sitting out Tuesday after getting struck by two pitches -- one off his left wrist -- on Monday night. X-rays came back negative on the National League Rookie of the Year frontrunner. Charlie Culberson is starting at shortstop for the Dodgers on Tuesday in Colorado.
Aug 30 - 7:17 PM

Clayton Kershaw (back) threw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday afternoon.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the ace left-hander "came out of it well," but that Kershaw only worked two innings signals that he will probably have to make a minor league rehab start somewhere before returning to the Los Angeles rotation. Kershaw has been out since June 26 because of a herniated disc in his back. There should be something more official on his timetable Wednesday.

Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Indians are working to acquire Coco Crisp.

The deal hasn't been finalized, but it sounds like it could be close -- so much so that Crisp has already waived his 10 & 5 rights. The 36-year-old outfielder is batting just .234/.299/.399 with 11 runs and seven stolen bases in 102 games this season for the Athletics, but Cleveland is trying to beef up its outfield depth with Michael Brantley (shoulder) ruled out for the rest of 2016. Abraham Almonte is not eligible to play in October due to his PED suspension from February, and top outfield prospect Bradley Zimmer is apparently not quite ready.
