ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees are "moving closer" to a deal with free agent outfielder Ichiro Suzuki.

It's not a big surprise, as Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported Sunday that the Yankees would likely bring him back. Olney hears that a deal will likely be done within the next few days. Look for Ichiro to take a pretty steep paycut from the $17 million he made in 2012.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Yankees and Red Sox have reached out to the Marlins about a potential Martin Prado trade.

Chase Headley and Pablo Sandoval have both struggled at the hot corner for the Yanks and Sox, respectively. Prado has played in just 21 games this season due to a hamstring injury which cost him about six weeks of action. He is hitting .277/.299/.398 with two homers and nine RBI in 83 at-bats this season.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Blue Jays are among the teams with interest in Miguel Montero.

Montero was designated for assignment by the Cubs following a rant about Jake Arrieta not being able to hold runners on. It's possible Chicago could work out a trade of the catcher before having to release him, but either way they're going to have to pick up nearly all of what remains of his $14 million salary. Montero would be a backup to Russell Martin in Toronto.

Michael Conforto (hand) remained out of the Mets' lineup Wednesday.

He hasn't played since being hit on the left hand by a pitch Sunday. A pair of X-rays revealed no fracture, but Conforto wasn't able to grip a bat without pain Tuesday and it's unclear when he'll be ready to return to action. In the meantime, Curtis Granderson will continue to get starts. Lucas Duda is also getting a breather Wednesday, as Wilmer Flores is at first base and T.J. Rivera is at third.
Jun 28 - 3:29 PM

Blue Jays signed OF Michael Saunders to a minor league contract.

Saunders was cut loose by the Phillies after hitting just .205/.257/.360 this season. They remain on the hook for all but a prorated portion of the veteran minimum. Saunders has been terrible at the dish since last year's All-Star break, but he was terrific for the Jays in the first half of 2016 and they'll hope he can recreate some of that. He could eventually be an option for them in left field.

Yankees placed DH Matt Holliday on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to June 25, with a viral infection.

Holliday has been feeling fatigued and is headed back to New York for further testing. The Yankees aren't sure at this point whether he's dealing with a virus or maybe allergies. They'll find out soon enough. Miguel Andujar has replaced him on the roster and should see regular starts in the DH spot.

Hanley Ramirez (knee) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Wednesday.

He's missed three games now with a sore left knee. Sam Travis is filling in at designated hitter.
Jun 28 - 3:08 PM

Carlos Gomez (back) remained out of the Rangers' lineup Wednesday.

He's missed two straight starts with a sore back. Gomez is considered day-to-day. Delino DeShields is again in center field.

Tigers activated DH Victor Martinez from the 10-day disabled list.

Martinez missed nearly two weeks of action with an irregular heartbeat. Thankfully, it appears that he's going to be fine. He'll go back to being the Tigers' regular designated hitter.
Jun 28 - 3:02 PM

Giants placed RHP Mark Melancon on the 10-day disabled list with a right pronator strain.

It's the same injury that sent him to the DL last month. Melancon missed barely over the minimum amount of time the first trip, but the Giants would figure to be more careful with him this go-round. Sam Dyson is expected to handle the closing duties for the Giants while Melancon is sidelined.

Royals recalled OF Jorge Soler from Triple-A Omaha.

Soler was sent down earlier this month after batting an ugly .164/.292/.273 over his first 65 plate appearances. However, he hit a robust .333/.478/.736 with eight homers over 20 games for Omaha since being optioned and should get a good number of starts in the designated hitter spot with Brandon Moss struggling.
Jun 28 - 2:43 PM

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com writes that Howie Kendrick (hamstring) being placed on the disabled list is "looking likely."

Kendrick had been slated to start a second straight game in the designated hitter spot Wednesday, but he told Phillies manager Pete Mackanin that he wasn't feeling up to it. He hasn't started a game in the field in a week due to a strained left hamstring. The Phillies will certainly be hoping that Kendrick's absence will be short, as they're likely to shop him before the trade deadline.
