FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Mariners have engaged in "preliminary discussions" with the Tigers about a trade for outfielder Brennan Boesch.

"No such move is close," writes Morosi, but Boesch could become an attractive fallback option for the Mariners if they're unable to lure in a big free agent outfielder. Boesch, 27, is a .259/.315/.414 career major league hitter through his first 1,487 plate appearances.

Jean Segura went 2-for-4 with three RBI as the Brewers bested the Pirates 7-4 on Tuesday.

Segura had an RBI infield single in the first inning before contributing a big two-run single in the eighth. It was the first time Segura has had three RBI in a game since April 27. The shortstop is a better fantasy player than he is in real life, hitting .264/.288/.329 with four homers, 40 RBI, 43 runs scored and 20 stolen bases on the season.

Kyle Schwarber's two-run home run in the seventh inning was the deciding factor in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

The slugger put the Cubs ahead 5-4 when he sent a Burke Badenhop offering over the fence in left-center. Schwarber finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored on the night. He's batting .270/.365/.552 with 13 home runs, 38 RBI, and 41 runs scored in 189 plate appearances in his rookie season.
Sep 1 - 11:10 PM

Darin Ruf went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBI as the Phillies doubled up the Mets 14-8 on Tuesday.

Ruf extended the Phillies' lead to 5-0 in the third inning with a three-run home run to left field off of Jon Niese. He added an RBI single in the fifth, and a two-run single in the sixth. The six RBI mark a career-high for Ruf, as he hadn't even knocked in four in a game before. The 1B/OF has otherwise not done much at the plate, batting .245/.292/.406 with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 209 plate appearances.
Sep 1 - 10:57 PM

Edwin Encarnacion's hitting streak ended at 26 games as he went 0-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly in Tuesday's win against the Orioles.

Encarnacion put the Jays up 1-0 in the first inning with a sacrifice fly and drew a walk in the third inning but was stranded. He lined out to shortstop and fouled out to first base in his other two attempts. The 32-year-old is hitting .273/.361/.545 with 30 home runs and 92 RBI this season.
Sep 1 - 10:34 PM

Ryan Goins belted a walk-off two-run home run in the 10th inning as the Blue Jays overcame the Indians on Tuesday.

Closer Roberto Osuna blew the save in the ninth inning, but Goins picked up his teammate. The second baseman sent a Bryan Shaw offering over the fence in right field to break a 3-3 tie and send the Jays home happy. He finished 1-for-3 with a walk on the evening. Goins is typically not one for power hitting, as he's batting .246/.318/.357 with five home runs and 37 RBI on the year.
Sep 1 - 10:32 PM

Drew Smyly dominated the Orioles in Tuesday's win, striking out 10 across seven scoreless innings.

Smyly scattered four hits and a walk along with the 10 strikeouts in a dominating performance -- his best of the season. His results have been mixed in four starts since coming off of the disabled list, but overall has a 3.11 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP and a 42/8 K/BB ratio over 37 2/3 innings. Smyly will look to keep it going next week in Detroit against the Tigers.
Sep 1 - 10:25 PM

J.P. Arencibia had himself a ballgame, going 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBI in Tuesday's rout of the Orioles.

Oddly enough, six RBI isn't even a career-high for Arencibia. He knocked in seven last season for the Rangers and six back in 2012 for the Blue Jays. The catcher plated two with a single in the fourth inning, another two with another single in the fifth, then tacked on a two-run home run in the seventh. Arencibia had singled twice in nine at-bats across five games in the big leagues entering the night. With Curt Casali sidelined, he will start every two or three days along with Rene Rivera.
Sep 1 - 10:21 PM

Justin Nicolino spun seven scoreless innings versus the Braves in Tuesday's win.

Nicolino scattered six hits and two walks while striking out three. Only one of the hits went for extra bases. The young lefty has been solid in five of his seven starts this year and now carries a 3.07 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP and a 15/13 K/BB ratio over 44 innings. Nicolino will look to keep it going when he squares off against the Brewers at home next week.
Sep 1 - 10:09 PM

Rick Porcello struck out 13 batters, but allowed three runs (one earned) in eight innings to lose to the Yankees on Tuesday.

Porcello was hurt by a Travis Shaw fielding error that extended the fifth inning and eventually led to the Yankees' first two runs. He yielded one more run in the eighth on a Brett Gardner solo homer. Overall, the right-hander gave up five hits and a walk along with the 13 punch-outs. So far, so good for Porcello in his first two starts back from the disabled list, as he tossed seven scoreless frames his last time out against the White Sox. He'll look to keep it going in a home start against the Blue Jays next.
Sep 1 - 9:57 PM

Scott Feldman left Tuesday's start against the Mariners with right shoulder discomfort.

Feldman might have been pitching hurt all night, as he entered the game on a hot streak and then proceeded to allow three runs on three hits and five walks over 2 2/3 frames. It's unclear at this point whether he'll be sent for an MRI, but it would seem likely. The Astros should have more on his status after the game.
Sep 1 - 9:37 PM

CBS Sport' Jon Heyman reports that Tim Lincecum will visit hip specialist Dr. Marc Philippon on Wednesday and a determination will be made whether he needs surgery.

Lincecum has already seen multiple doctors and has been diagnosed with a degenerative hip condition in both hips. Heyman says the righty "hasn't been experiencing severe pain," but he "has been hampered by an instability" in his hips. Lincecum has reportedly been told by doctors that he could be ready for spring training if he has the procedure and "they've further suggested that he should be able to return to form," according to Heyman. The righty will be a free agent this winter.
