FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Yankees may have interest in acquiring the Angels' Vernon Wells.

The two sides discussed the veteran outfielder at the Winter Meetings. Wells would fill the Bombers' need for a powerful right-handed bat in the outfield, but he's owed a whopping $42 million over the final two years of his contract and the Halos would probably have to assume most of that cost in order to deal him. Wells also holds a no-trade clause and would have to approve of the trade.

Dodgers activated RHP Josh Beckett from the 15-day disabled list.

Beckett will return to the Dodgers' starting rotation on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh after sitting out for over two weeks with a hip injury. He still has a labrum tear and some cysts, but the veteran right-hander is going to try to pitch through the discomfort. Beckett boasts a 2.26 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 95/32 K/BB ratio in 103 2/3 innings this season.

Rangers placed C Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Soto lasted just three games on the Rangers' active roster. He missed the first three-and-a-half months of the 2014 season following knee surgery and will now likely be sidelined through mid-August. Robinson Chirinos will again serve as the primary catcher in Texas.

Athletics activated OF Josh Reddick from the 15-day disabled list.

Reddick wound up missing over three weeks with a strained right knee. He went 9-for-21 with three home runs and eight RBI on his five-game minor league rehab assignment and will try to build off that offensive success in his return to the majors. The 27-year-old outfielder has a disappointing .229/.296/.358 batting line in 54 games this season for Oakland.

Hanley Ramirez (wrist) is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup Tuesday night versus the Pirates.

Ramirez was the struck by pitches on the left shoulder and wrist Sunday night in St. Louis. X-rays have been taken and came back negative, but the shortstop is still pretty sore. Justin Turner will again fill in.
Jul 22 - 3:31 PM

Yasiel Puig (hand) is again out of the Dodgers' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Pirates.

Puig has now missed three consecutive games since taking a Joe Kelly pitch off his left hand on Saturday afternoon. A second X-ray was taken Monday and the results were negative, but Puig still has a bad bruise. Matt Kemp is in right field Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Cubs designated 2B Darwin Barney for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Emilio Bonifacio's return from the disabled list. It was increasingly obvious that Barney's days in Chicago were numbered, especially with the recent emergence of Arismendy Alcantara. The 28-year-old was originally drafted by the Cubs in 2007 and has compiled a .244/.290/.335 batting line over 542 games with the club.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Aaron Sanchez from Triple-A Buffalo.

Sanchez is a highly-regarded starting pitching prospect, but the Jays will break him into the majors as a reliever. The 22-year-old has posted a 3.95 ERA and 84/57 K/BB ratio over 100 1/3 innings this season between Double- and Triple-A.
Jul 22 - 3:19 PM

Yankees acquired 3B Chase Headley and cash considerations from the Padres for INF Yangervis Solarte and RHP Rafael De Paula.

The deal is now official. Headley's stock has plummeted since his breakout season in 2012, but he's a worthwhile gamble for the Yankees given their current options at third base. The 30-year-old has swung the bat better of late and has good road numbers for his career, so it would be no surprise if he finishes his walk year on a high note.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Blue Jays are showing interest in re-acquiring Rangers outfielder Alex Rios.

It's interesting, since the Blue Jays let Rios go for nothing to the White Sox in 2009, but they are considering a reunion now that they are starving for offense and his contract doesn't look nearly as bad as it once did. He's making $12.5 million this season and his contract includes a $13.5 million team option for 2015. The Rangers will almost certainly pick it up if they keep him, so they'd likely want a sizable return. The Royals and Mariners are among the other teams who have interest in Rios.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Phillies right-hander A.J. Burnett would prefer to be dealt to the Pirates and that Pittsburgh players are lobbying for his return.

Burnett made a bit of an awkward exit from Pittsburgh when he signed with the Phillies during the offseason, but it's water under the bridge at this point. However, one possible hangup in a deal is his player option for 2015. He's currently at 21 starts this season, but his 2015 salary would rise to $8.5 million at 24 starts, $10 million at 27, $11.75 million at 30 and a maximum of $12.75 million if he makes it to 32 starts.
Jul 22 - 12:38 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees have checked in with the White Sox about the availability of left-hander John Danks.

There's nothing to indicate that the two sides are close to a deal, but Yankees general manager Brian Cashman hasn't made any secret about his desire to add starting pitching. Danks owns a 4.35 ERA and 87/46 K/BB ratio over 124 innings this season, so he's not quite the pitcher he once was. There's still around $34 million remaining on his contract, which runs through 2016. He has a six-team no-trade list, but it's unclear if the Yankees are on it.
