Swisher won't visit with Mariners this week

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Nick Swisher will not visit with the Mariners this week.

The Mariners have long been listed as a potential landing spot for Swisher, but he apparently won't be stopping in Seattle during his free agent tour. Heyman says the M's don't appear willing to part with the No. 12 pick in next year's draft, which they would lose if they signed Swisher. That would indicate they might not be serious players for Michael Bourn, either.

One man show: Stanton homers twice in victory

Giancarlo Stanton swatted a pair of home runs and collected all of Miami's RBI in Monday's 3-2 victory against Arizona.

Stanton's two-run job off Patrick Corbin in the seventh tied the game at two and his homer off Heath Bell in the ninth turned out to be the decisive run. Stanton has hit safely in all seven games since coming off the disabled list and has collected two or more RBI in four of those contests. He's one of the hottest hitters in the game right now.

Shelby Miller exits start with leg cramp

Shelby Miller left Monday's start against the Cubs after five innings with a right leg cramp.

Miller was examined by trainers after stretching out his calf on the mound with one out in the fifth. He stayed in and retired the next two hitters but was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the frame. The youngster should be fine for his next outing, which will come against the Rangers this weekend. He tossed five scoreless innings on two hits and two walks while striking out five before exiting.

Kennedy drops appeal of 10-game suspension

Ian Kennedy has dropped the appeal of his 10-game suspension and will begin serving it on Monday.

Kennedy doesn't think he deserved 10 games for his role in last week's brawl with the Dodgers, but with the D'Backs having a couple off days over the next week, it makes sense to drop the appeal. He'll be eligible to return on June 29.

Sandoval could begin rehab assignment Friday

Pablo Sandoval (foot) could begin a rehab assignment at High-A San Jose on Friday.

Sandoval has been on the DL for nearing a week due to a left foot strain. The Giants anticipate him being ready for activation on June 26, the first day he's eligible.

Marlins move Kevin Slowey to the bullpen

The Marlins have demoted Kevin Slowey to the bullpen.

Slowey is clearing the way for the return of Nathan Eovaldi to the rotation. "Slowey's going to be kind of that swing man, that long guy, to come in and throw multiple innings," said manager Mike Redmond. "That'll be how it goes now for a while." Slowey got off to a great start this season but has posted a 7.08 ERA over his last seven appearances. Tom Koehler will remain in the rotation for now, but Henderson Alvarez is due back soon.

Scutaro expects to be back in lineup 'soon'

Marco Scutaro (thumb) said he expects to return to the Giants' lineup "soon."

"Soon," Scutaro said Monday. "Tomorrow. Next day... depends on how the finger reacts (from day to day)." Scutaro hasn't played since last Tuesday after being diagnosed with "mallet finger" as a result of a hit by pitch. The injury can often take 6-8 weeks to fully recover from, but Scutaro will try to play through it.

Brandon McCarthy set for pen session Tuesday

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

It will be his first since a nagging shoulder injury sent him to the disabled list in late May. McCarthy was cleared to throw from the bump after long-tossing from 105 on Monday with no issues. It's not clear when he might be ready for a rehab assignment, but a return early next month seems likely.

Nick Swisher gets cortisone shot in shoulder

Nick Swisher received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder and is likely to be sidelined until at least Friday.

The shoulder has been an ongoing issue for Swisher, who aggravated the injury during Sunday's game. An MRI has ruled out any structural damage, but the Indians haven't ruled out the possibility of a stint on the disabled list. The Indians figure to see how he responds to the shot before making a roster move.

D'Arnaud (foot) cleared to begin running

Mets prospect catcher Travis d'Arnaud (foot) has been cleared to begin running.

Excellent news for d'Arnaud, who has been sidelined since mid-April with a broken bone in his left foot. The 24-year-old backstop is expected to return to game action within 3-4 weeks and should make his major league debut at some point during the second half.

Soria hopes to start rehab stint Thursday

Joakim Soria (elbow, pectoral) hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as Thursday.

Soria has made it through multiple batting practice sessions without incident and appears ready to progress to game action. Pitchers are permitted to have a 30-day rehab window and Soria figures to need most of it as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. He could provide a nice boost for the Rangers' bullpen during the second half.

Rangers plan to work Profar in left field

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Monday that the club plans to make Jurickson Profar a "functional left fielder."

While the Rangers were initially expected to send Profar down the minors upon Ian Kinsler's return, they now think they can manage to get him enough at-bats by adding the outfield to his resume. For what it's worth, Anthony Andro of FOX Sports Southwest speculates that he could be game-ready for left field within 7-10 days.
