Phillies signed RHP Mike Adams to a two-year, $12 million contract with a vesting option for 2015.

Adams agreed to the deal last weekend then had it finalized on Thursday after passing his physical. The 34-year-old righty boasts a stellar 2.28 career ERA, 1.06 career WHIP and 9.0 career K/9. He should do well in a setup role behind Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Yoenis Cespedes (leg) is back in the Mets' lineup Friday.

It's his first start in a week due to a bruised thigh, although he had a big pinch-hit homer on Wednesday. Cespedes is batting .300/.373/.683 with six homers and 17 RBI this month.

Tigers recalled RHP Michael Fulmer from Triple-A Toledo.

Fulmer will make his major league debut on Friday against the Twins. He's posted a 4.11 ERA and 20/5 K/BB ratio across 15 1/3 innings for Toledo this season and the top prospect isn't a bad streaming option. Fulmer is replacing Shane Greene (blister) and isn't a given to stick around long.

Brewers optioned RHP Taylor Jungmann to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Jungmann pitched pretty well in 21 starts for the Brewers last season and started their third game of the season this year. However, he's put up a 9.15 ERA and 13/13 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings through five outings this season, so it's not a surprise a change was made. The Brewers haven't announced who will take Jungmann's rotation spot.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Athletics are calling up Jesse Hahn to start Saturday against the Astros.

It was previously reported that Hahn wouldn't be called up this weekend due to a blister, but he's apparently feeling better. Sean Manaea is making his major league debut Friday, so it's unclear who Hahn will bump from the rotation. Chris Bassitt is probably the most likely candidate. Hahn has posted a 2.04 ERA and 13/9 K/BB ratio in 17 2/3 innings through four starts this season with Triple-A Nashville.

Kris Bryant (ankle) is not in the Cubs' lineup on Friday.

Bryant turned his right ankle on Thursday and underwent a precautionary MRI, but the results confirmed that the sprain is minor. Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune says the third baseman "may miss a couple days," but adds that the Cubs are "not worried" about the injury. Javier Baez is filling in at the hot corner on Friday.

Orioles signed LHP Wandy Rodriguez to a minor league contract.

Rodriguez pitched well this spring for the Astros -- 3.95 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 11 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings -- but didn't make the Opening Day roster and was released. Dan Connolly of BaltimoreBaseball.com says that Rodriguez is headed to extended spring training before presumably being assigned to Triple-A Norfolk. The veteran left-hander holds a 5.34 ERA in the majors since the beginning of 2014.

MLB suspended Dee Gordon for 80 games without pay for testing positive for performance-enhancing substances.

Stunning late-night news. Gordon tested positive for exogenous Testosterone and Clostebol. The suspension is effective immediately. Gordon has turned his career around over the past two seasons and won the NL batting crown during his first season with the Marlins last year. The 28-year-old recently signed a five-year, $50 million extension with Miami, but the club will now be without him until after the All-Star break.

Jose Fernandez pitched a respectable game in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers, striking out eight and allowing two runs over six innings.

Along with the eight strikeouts, Fernandez walked three while scattering five hits. The two runs on his line both came home to roost in the first inning courtesy of an RBI double by Yasmani Grandal and an RBI infield single by Yasiel Puig. Fernandez settled in after that frame. The flamethrower has produced a mixed-bag season through five starts, pitching to a 4.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 40/14 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings. He will play host to the Diamondbacks in his next start.
Apr 29 - 1:05 AM

Rubby De La Rosa was clutch in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Cardinals, striking out 10 over seven shutout innings.

De La Rosa allowed just two hits on the evening. He walked two and exited having thrown a tidy 94 pitches (65 strikes). It was a sparkling outing any way you cut it. Through four starts (seven appearances), the 27-year-old right-hander holds a 4.18 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 28/8 K/BB ratio. A road date with the Marlins shows next on his schedule as he tries to build on Thursday's fantastic start.

Mallex Smith played catalyst from the bottom of the Braves' order Thursday, finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in a 5-3 win over the Red Sox.

Smith actually could have had a bigger night, but his line drive to right field with two on in the second inning bounced over the short Fenway wall, rendering it a ground-rule double and keeping Smith confined to two bases and just one RBI. He also swatted an RBI single in the sixth. It was easily Smith's best game as a member of the Braves, as the speedster is hitting just .188/.278/.292 through 16 games, even with Thursday's outburst.
Apr 28 - 11:18 PM

Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, five RBI and three runs scored as the Orioles trounced the White Sox 10-2 on Thursday.

Machado jumped on a slider from reliever Jake Petricka in the sixth inning to turn a relatively close game into a blowout. The homer was his seventh of the season, tying him for second-most in the American League (including with his teammate Chris Davis). The 23-year-old has 16 RBI and 19 runs scored to go with a .333/.389/.678 line through 21 games.
