Phillies signed RHP Mike Adams to a two-year, $12 million contract with a vesting option for 2015.

Adams agreed to the deal last weekend then had it finalized on Thursday after passing his physical. The 34-year-old righty boasts a stellar 2.28 career ERA, 1.06 career WHIP and 9.0 career K/9. He should do well in a setup role behind Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Greg Holland threw a bullpen session Tuesday for the first time since landing on the disabled list on April 18 with a Grade 1 pectoral strain.

Royals manager Ned Yost said after the workout that he thinks Holland could be ready by early next week. Wade Davis has been filling in at closer for Kansas City and has been fantastic, but the job is Holland's. He had converted four saves in four opportunities without allowing a run before suffering the pectoral injury.

Max Scherzer (thumb) was able to throw off a mound Tuesday without issue.

Scherzer had to be scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday night against the Braves after injuring his thumb during an at-bat last Thursday, but he expects to return to the Nationals' starting rotation later this week. The $210 million right-hander owns a 1.26 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and 29/4 K/BB ratio through 28 2/3 innings with Washington.

Gregory Polanco (groin) is not in the Pirates' starting lineup Tuesday against the Cubs.

Polanco tweaked a muscle in his groin over the weekend and was a late scratch from Monday's series opener at Wrigley Field. He is considered day-to-day.
Apr 28 - 4:07 PM

Desmond Jennings (knee) is out of the Rays' starting lineup again Tuesday vs. the Yankees.

Jennings tweaked his left knee on Saturday and will now miss his third straight start. He's not expected to go on the disabled list, so continue to consider him day-to-day for now. David DeJesus, Kevin Kiermaier, and Steven Souza will start in the outfield Tuesday while Tim Beckham will serve as the designated hitter.
Apr 28 - 4:06 PM

Brett Cecil is back as the Blue Jays' closer.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said after Monday's game that he would have used Cecil in a save opportunity, so this doesn't come as a big surprise. Miguel Castro has really struggled of late and will now pitch in more lower-leverage situations. Roberto Osuna and Aaron Loup will help set up. Cecil was pulled from the closer role earlier this month and his velocity is still below what we've come to expect, but he needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues as long as the opportunity is there.
Apr 28 - 3:51 PM

Alex Rodriguez is not in Tuesday's starting lineup against the Rays.

A-Rod is getting the day off with right-hander Jake Odorizzi on the hill for Tampa Bay. Garrett Jones will serve as the DH and bat sixth. Rodriguez will presumably be back in there Wednesday against left-hander Drew Smyly. He's currently sitting on 659 career home runs, just one shy of tying Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time list.
Apr 28 - 3:27 PM

Ryan Braun is in Tuesday's lineup against the Reds.

Braun was out of the lineup for the second straight day Monday, but it was apparently a manager's decision. However, he'll bat third Tuesday against Reds ace Johnny Cueto. Braun is hitting just .226 with one home run and a .547 OPS so far this season.
Apr 28 - 3:07 PM

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said on MLB Network Radio that Jason Heyward (hamstring) is expected to be in the starting lineup Tuesday.

Heyward tweaked his left hamstring on Sunday and sat out Monday's game, but Matheny said they were just being cautious. Good news for the Cardinals.
Apr 28 - 2:58 PM

Devin Mesoraco (hip) is out of the Reds' lineup again for Tuesday's game against the Brewers.

Mesoraco is still on the active roster despite the fact that he hasn't started a game since April 11 due to a lingering hip impingement. Of course, he had a pinch-hit appearance on April 26, so putting him on the DL now might not do them much good. He remains day-to-day.

Mike Napoli (illness) is out of the starting lineup for the Red Sox for the second straight day Tuesday.

Napoli is sick and apparently needs another day to rest. Daniel Nava will make the start at first base while Brock Holt will get another start, this time in right field.
Apr 28 - 2:08 PM

Pablo Sandoval (neck) is in Tuesday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

Sandoval left Monday's game due to neck soreness after suffering a bit of whiplash, but he's good to go. The 28-year-old is batting .294/.392/.412 with two home runs and 11 RBI across his first 18 games this season.
