Rangers signed RHP Yoshinori Tateyama to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The Rangers declined Tateyama's $1.2 million option for 2013 back in October and are now getting him back on a non-guaranteed deal. If he does well in spring training, he may be able to earn a spot in the Texas bullpen.

Josh Reddick (finger) remains out of the Dodgers' starting lineup on Tuesday night.

Reddick jammed his right middle finger on Sunday night while having room service delivered and sat out Monday afternoon's series finale in Cincinnati. He was able to take batting practice on Tuesday evening, which is obviously a strong indication that the injury is not serious. Rob Segedin will start in right field and bat seventh Tuesday versus Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.

Clayton Kershaw (back) is expected to throw a 60-pitch bullpen session Thursday or Friday.

Kershaw made it through a 50-pitch bullpen session Tuesday in Los Angeles without experiencing any sort of abnormal discomfort in his back. He'll take the next few days off before trying a more intensive workout. Kershaw said Tuesday that he expects to rejoin the Dodgers after just one minor league rehab start, but it's not exactly clear when that start will happen. He's been on the disabled list since late June because of a herniated disc in his lower back.

Tyson Ross (shoulder, ankle) is set to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with High-A Lake Elsinore.

Ross won't be allowed to go beyond 45 pitches in that outing. He landed on the disabled list the second week of April with a shoulder injury and then sprained his ankle while exercising in his hotel room on July 6. If everything goes smoothly from here, the right-hander could rejoin the Padres' rotation around mid-September.

Steven Wright (shoulder) threw a 60-pitch bullpen session Tuesday at Tropicana Field.

"Obviously see how [Wednesday] goes, but today, to get through that, it’s big," he said after the workout. "It’s still a little achy, but when I get out on the mound it doesn’t really bother me. I think it’s just something from not throwing consistently like I have been." Wright has been cleared to return to the Red Sox rotation this Friday against the Royals. The knuckleballer holds an impressive 3.01 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 123/51 K/BB ratio in 146 2/3 innings this season with Boston.

John Lackey (shoulder) is aiming to throw a bullpen session this weekend in Los Angeles.

Lackey had a good game of catch Tuesday in San Diego and will go through a similar workout Wednesday. The veteran right-hander has been on the disabled list since August 19, retroactive to August 15, with a shoulder strain. The first-place Cubs can play it safe with Lackey and probably will do just that.
Aug 23 - 6:49 PM

Junior Guerra (elbow) is scheduled to make a rehab start Saturday with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

If it goes smoothly, he should be cleared to return to the Brewers' rotation late next week. Guerra has been on the disabled list since August 8, retroactive to August 4, with right elbow inflammation. He owns a sharp 2.93 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 107 1/3 innings this season with Milwaukee.
Aug 23 - 6:20 PM

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said A.J. Pollock (elbow) will likely be activated Friday.

There was talk of a Wednesday or Thursday return, but the out-of-contention Diamondbacks don't want to be too aggressive with their prized center fielder. Pollock, out all season due to a fractured elbow, has batted .433/.541/.733 with two home runs and two stolen bases on his 10-game minor league rehab assignment.
Aug 23 - 6:13 PM

Angel Pagan (groin) is back in the Giants' starting lineup Tuesday versus the Dodgers.

Pagan tweaked his groin while making a catch in the outfield Saturday against the Mets, but he escaped a serious injury. He'll start in left field and bat second on Tuesday night against righty Kenta Maeda.
Aug 23 - 6:10 PM

The hope is Steven Matz (shoulder) can return to the Mets' rotation next week.

Matz landed on the disabled list August 22, retroactive to August 15, with a mild left shoulder strain. He'll miss his turn Thursday versus the Cardinals, but the Mets think he'll be ready to slot back in after that. The young southpaw holds a 3.40 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 129/31 K/BB ratio through 132 1/3 innings this season for New York.
Aug 23 - 5:50 PM

Rangers manager Jeff Banister said Carlos Gomez could be called up on Thursday.

That's assuming everything goes well in his third game with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday night. Gomez went 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBI on Monday and is 4-for-9 so far at the Triple-A level. Texas signed the 30-year-old center fielder to a minor league contract last week after he was released by the Astros.
Aug 23 - 5:16 PM

DJ LeMahieu was scratched from the Rockies' lineup Tuesday due to left wrist inflammation.

Daniel Descalso will start at second base and bat sixth Tuesday versus Brewers right-hander Chase Anderson. This could be a multi-game absence for LeMahieu.
