Rangers claimed LHP Jeff Beliveau off waivers from the Cubs.

Beliveau had been designated for assignment earlier this month. The left-hander posted an ugly 4.58 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 17/12 K/BB ratio in 17 2/3 innings this past season for the Cubs, but he's put up big strikeout totals in the minors.

Hyun-Jin Ryu was removed in the third inning of his start Saturday against the Giants after getting struck on the left arm by a Joe Panik line drive.

The comebacker was clocked at 93.9 mph off Panik's bat. Look for a status update within the next hour or so. Ross Stripling took over on the mound for the Dodgers with one out in the top of the third.

Carlos Santana is getting X-rays on his left shoulder.

The shoulder got bent back awkwardly on a play at first base in the bottom of the fifth inning. He remained in the game, but there is obviously at least a little concern. "We won't play him Sunday, but he's going to get an X-ray that's precautionary," Indians manager Terry Francona told the media on Saturday night. "But you could see the way he was swinging (after the collision) that he was letting it go pretty good."

Efren Navarro clubbed a pair of solo dingers during a loss to the Twins on Saturday.

He didn't even start the game, coming in to replace the injured Miguel Cabrera in the second inning. He popped an Ervin Santana offering over the wall in the sixth inning and then victimized reliever Gabriel Moya in the ninth. The dingers were the first of the season for Navarro, in fact he's hit only one other major league home run, and that came way back in 2014. The 31-year-old first broke into the majors in 2011 with the Angels.

Miguel Cabrera will undergo an MRI on his back.

Cabrera has been bothered by lower back discomfort for the last couple of months and he had to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Twins after hitting a single in the bottom of the first inning. It sounds like an early shutdown could be in order for the 34-year-old slugger, even if the MRI shows no major damage.

Yan Gomes went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI during an 11-4 rout of the Mariners on Saturday.

He smacked a solo shot off Ryan Garton in the eighth inning, then clocked a three-run bomb off Ariel Miranda in the ninth frame to put the game out of reach. The huge day gives a nice boost to Gomes' paltry .230/.305/.391 slash line. He has 13 home runs and 54 RBI in 102 games as the Indians' primary catcher this season.

Alex Wilson has been diagnosed with a broken right leg.

In more technical terms, it's a non-displaced fibula fracture. Wilson suffered the injury Saturday when he got struck by a 103.8 mph line drive off the bat of Joe Mauer in the top of the eighth inning. The setup man is obviously done for the year and this injury will have at least some effect on his offseason regimen.
Sep 23 - 8:45 PM

Sonny Gray gave up just one run in six innings and was credited with a 5-1 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

He allowed four hits and three walks while registering four strikeouts in the quality start. The only damage came on a Teoscar Hernandez solo shot in the third inning. Gray improves to 10-11 with a fine 3.31 ERA in 26 starts with the Athletics and Yankees this year. He has 151 strikeouts and 52 walks in 157 2/3 innings pitched.
Sep 23 - 8:17 PM

Jean Segura has been diagnosed with a sprain on the tip of his middle finger.

Segura suffered the injury Saturday in a play at second base. It doesn't sound too serious, but any type of ailment can be a season-ender at this point. Segura finished 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Mariners' loss to the Indians.
Sep 23 - 8:14 PM

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed just three hits while firing 7 2/3 scoreless frames in a 5-0 win over the Reds on Saturday.

The Reds may not be a winning team but they can hit, and Rodriguez shut them down with ease in this one. He struck out six batters, walked two and surrendered just three harmless singles. The 24-year-old left-hander improves to 6-6 with a 3.91 ERA through 23 starts (plus one relief appearance). He has an excellent 148:48 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 135 2/3 innings.

Freddie Freeman is working through a stomach virus.

That's the reason for his absence from the Braves' starting lineup Saturday against the Phillies. The hope is Freeman will feel well enough to play Sunday. "It’s a situation where we didn’t want him around everybody," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "It sounds like a 24-hour bug, something his whole family had."
Sep 23 - 7:06 PM

Max Kepler exited Saturday's game against the Tigers due to a left hip injury.

Kepler looked to be in pain after a throw from the outfield in the bottom of the first inning and Ehire Adrianza took his spot in the lineup in the top of the second. This hip injury could obviously threaten Kepler's availability for the final week of the regular season.
