FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Indians "have had dialogue" with Shaun Marcum.

Morosi says "it's not clear yet" whether Cleveland's signing of Brett Myers will affect a potential pursuit of Marcum. The Indians have room in their rotation for another addition, but it remains to be seen if they have enough cash to make it happen. Marcum has also drawn interest from the Royals, Twins and Padres.

Rusney Castillo batted .405 in 10 games with Criollos de Caguas of the Puerto Rico Winter League.

Castillo will spend the rest of the MLB offseason in Florida to prepare for what could be a special 2015 rookie campaign. The 27-year-old Cuban center fielder had a homer and two stolen bases in those 10 games with Criollos de Caguas, and he tallied two homers and three steals in 10 games this past season with the Red Sox. Castillo carries tremendous fantasy potential.

According to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi, the Yankees, Royals, Rays, and Blue Jays are keeping in touch with Asdrubal Cabrera.

And the Phillies, A's, Mets, and Twins have also been floated as possibilities at different points this winter. Cabrera batted just .241/.307/.387 in 616 plate appearances this past season between the Indians and Nationals, but the 29-year-old is a former All-Star and still has pretty good power for a middle infielder. He slugged 14 home runs in 2014.

According to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi, the Orioles continue to have "ongoing dialogue" with Colby Rasmus.

Rasmus has struggled to build a healthy free agent market for himself this winter after posting an ugly .225 batting average and .287 on-base percentage in 2014 for the Blue Jays. But he did still manage to hit 18 home runs, and the 28-year-old outfielder is just a season removed from an impressive .276/.338/.501 slash line. Rasmus should find a home soon. Baltimore would be a nice fit for his potential fantasy value.

Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports that Japanese infielder Takashi Toritani is "mulling offers" from the Blue Jays and Padres.

A Scott Boras client, Toritani could potentially start at his familiar position of shortstop with the Padres, while the Blue Jays would ask him to move to second base. Toritani, 33, batted .313/.406/.415 with eight home runs and 10 stolen bases in 144 games with the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball in 2014. He's a free agent, so it will not require a posting fee to sign him. However, it's not a given that he'll come to the states, as Toritani could ultimately decide to re-sign with Hanshin. The infielder is expected to require only a 1-2 year contract and will make a decision sometime next month.

Starlin Castro has been cleared of any involvement in a shooting in the Dominican Republic.

Six people were injured in the shooting, which took place early Saturday morning at a nightclub. While early reports indicated that Castro was arrested or detained, his agent, Paul Kinzer, said that he went to the police station voluntarily and video proved his innocence. Dominican police rep Jacobo Mateo Moquete later announced that Castro was free after being cleared of any wrongdoing.

A source tells CSNPhilly.com that the Phillies have signed Wandy Rodriguez to a minor league contract.

The deal is pending a physical, per the report. Multiple reports late Friday said the two sides were close to a deal, so it's not surprising that they got the details worked out. Rodriguez, 35, had a disastrous 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 26 2/3 innings with the Pirates this past season, but he's been a decent pitcher when healthy.

Chugoku Shimbun and Sports Nippon report that Hiroki Kuroda will return to Japan to play for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp next season.

Kuroda could have had another one-year contract with the Yankees if he wanted it, but it appears he'll return to his native country instead. The veteran right-hander will turn 40 in February but is coming off another fine season, having put up a 3.71 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and 146/35 K/BB ratio over 199 innings.
Dec 26 - 3:53 PM

Nationals signed 2B Dan Uggla to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

General manager Mike Rizzo has history with Uggla, as he drafted him back in 2001 when he was Director of Scouting for the Diamondbacks. Uggla will turn 35 in March and batted just .149/.229/.213 in 157 plate appearances last season. There's a good possibility he's done, but he did at least land in a good spot, as the Nats have an opening at second base. That said, it's unlikely that they're done shopping for upgrades at the position.
Dec 26 - 11:28 AM

Kenta Maeda has officially re-signed with the Hiroshima Carp of Nippon Professional Baseball.

Maeda, considered one of the top pitching talents in Japan, has been saying for years that he wants to join a Major League Baseball team. But the Hiroshima Carp again refused to post him this winter and the 26-year-old right-hander can't become an unrestricted free agent until after the 2017 season. He owns an outstanding 2.44 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 1,303 1/3 career innings for Hiroshima.

Carlos Gonzalez (knee) announced Wednesday that he has been cleared to begin hitting.

Gonzalez is coming off surgery in August to repair the patella tendon in his left knee, which had bothered him dating back to 2013. The 29-year-old could be a little behind at the start of spring training, but the hope is that he'll be ready for Opening Day.
Dec 24 - 2:20 PM

Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that the Braves and A.J. Pierzynski have agreed to a one-year contract, pending a physical.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez apparently let the cat out of the bag while at a Honeybaked Ham on Wednesday and Bowman was able to confirm the story's validity. We're not kidding. Pierzynski, 37, batted just .251/.288/.337 in 362 plate appearances this past season between the Red Sox and Cardinals and should back up young Christian Bethancourt in 2015. The deal is expected to become official after January 1.
