Andrew Cashner (thumb) is "set to start the season on the disabled list," according to MLB.com's Corey Brock.

Cashner needed emergency surgery last month on his right thumb after suffering a lacerated tendon during a hunting accident. There was some initial hope that he would be able to recover in time for the opening of the 2013 regular season, but it's not going to happen. The right-hander will aim to debut by the end of April.

Francisco Rodriguez notched his third save of the season Sunday in the Brewers' 6-3 win over the Cardinals.

Rodriguez delivered a perfect ninth inning, getting Kolten Wong to ground out and Peter Bourjos and Tony Cruz to fly out on just 10 total pitches. It was career save No. 351 for K-Rod, whose fantasy stock should rise rapidly as the Brewers work out of their early-season rut.

Hanley Ramirez homered twice and drove in four runs in an 18-7 loss to the Orioles on Sunday.

Hanley's onslaught didn't come until the game was well out of reach. He hit a solo home run in the eighth inning and a three-run shot in the ninth to draw the team to within 18-7. Close but not quite on the comeback. Han-Ram now has eight home runs and 17 RBI, with a terrifying slash of .300/.359/.643. Some guys crumble under the pressure of playing for the Red Sox, some guys don't. Ramirez is clearly of the later species and is making his club look very smart for signing him to the big off-season deal.
Apr 26 - 5:21 PM

Delmon Young drove in five of the 18 runs the Orioles scored in Sunday's 18-7 romp over the Red Sox.

Toss a dart at a name in the Oriole lineup from Sunday and you'll likely come up with a few RBI. Young led the crew with five, but he was far from alone, as Chris Davis, Steve Pearce, and Jimmy Paredes each had three. Where to begin? We'll just roll through some of the highlights. Young had RBI singles in the third and fourth innings, then hit a two-run double in the seventh. He entered the game with just two RBI on the season and left with seven. Davis supplied a two-run double in the third and a solo homer in the sixth. Paredes chipped in his first triple of the season. It was simply an offensive supernova. Guys like Young and Pearce aren't suddenly going to turn into RBI machines, but for one game, everybody in the middle of the Oriole lineup was locked in.
Apr 26 - 5:09 PM

Nationals manager Matt Williams said Sunday that Max Scherzer (thumb) is unlikely to pitch on Tuesday.

Scherzer was unable to throw his scheduled bullpen session on Sunday due to his thumb still being swollen. The Nationals don't believe that he will miss multiple starts or require a stint on the disabled list. Tanner Roark is the most logical candidate to start in his place and makes for a decent streaming option against the Braves in Atlanta.
Apr 26 - 4:37 PM

Miguel Cabrera finished 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as the Tigers topped the Indians 8-6 on Sunday.

Miggy singled in the first inning, singled and scored in the third inning, jacked a two-run shot in the sixth inning, and then plated James McCann with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Cabrera is off to a tremendous start in 2015, batting .377/.463/.580 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 19 games.
Apr 26 - 4:35 PM

Jake Arrieta held the Reds to two runs over six innings Sunday in the Cubs' 5-2 win.

Arrieta had a perfect game until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Todd Frazier slugged a two-out solo homer to left field. Arrieta allowed only one more run the rest of the way -- on a Billy Hamilton fielder's choice in the bottom of the fifth inning -- moving to 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 25/7 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 total frames. He gets the Brewers at home next time out.
Apr 26 - 4:16 PM

Chris Archer kept rolling along Sunday, yielding just two hits and one walk while striking out seven across seven shutout frames in a 5-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Archer allowed two of the first four hitters he faced to reach base and then just one got on the rest of the way. The young right-hander is on some kind of streak, as he hasn't allowed an earned run in his last four outings after a so-so Opening Day start. He already has three starts this season where he's given up two hits or fewer and no runs across seven innings. Archer will take on the Orioles in Baltimore next weekend.
Apr 26 - 4:12 PM

Jason Heyward is considered day-to-day with a left groin injury.

Heyward suffered the injury during Sunday's game against the Brewers while chasing down a ball in the outfield. He tested things out with some jogging and looked OK, but the Cardinals decided to be cautious here. Consider the outfielder day-to-day.
Apr 26 - 3:58 PM

Gio Gonzalez gave up six earned runs in five innings Sunday as the Nationals fell to the Marlins.

Gonzalez struck out eight and walked just one, but Miami's offense pounded him for 10 hits -- including three triples. Gio now has a rough 1-2 record, 5.01 ERA, and 1.71 WHIP in 23 1/3 innings this season and the Nationals have lost five straight games. Gonzalez will try to get on the right track next weekend against the Phillies.
Apr 26 - 3:57 PM

Dodgers placed OF Yasiel Puig on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 25, with a left hamstring strain.

Puig initially injured the hamstring nearly two weeks ago and just hasn't been able to get over the hump. The Dodgers think he could be ready in 4-5 days, but they've decided to finally play it safe and go ahead and make the DL move. Puig should be ready to go when his 15 days are up. Andre Ethier will see the lion's share of at-bats in right field while Puig is on the shelf.
Apr 26 - 2:15 PM

Sunday's game between the Giants and Rockies has been postponed due to rain.

No makeup date has been announced yet. Scheduled starters Tim Lincecum and Tyler Matzek will presumably be pushed back a day.
