Aroldis Chapman’s struggles continued Friday against the Red Sox, as he allowed two runs on two hits and a walk over one inning of work.

Chapman was asked to keep the Yankees within one run, but he gave up a leadoff single to Rafael Devers before walking Christian Vazquez. He then ignored the baserunners, so they were able to pull off a double steal before Jackie Bradley, Jr. brought them both home on a single to center. Chapman failed to back up home plate on the play, which resulted in a visit from manager Joe Girardi. The southpaw avoided any further damage, but he’s now allowed two earned runs in three straight appearances for the first time in his career. He now owns a 9.95 ERA over seven appearances against the Red Sox this season. While his hamstring issue was apparently minor, something clearly isn’t right here. One wonders how long his leash is as the Yankees try to fight for a playoff spot.

He saved the best for last though, blasting a walk-off grand slam off of Keynan Middleton in the ninth, finishing the night 3-for-5 with seven RBI. Machado's poor luck from earlier in the season has started to even out and he's now slashing .264/.319/.494 with 26 homers and 81 RBI.

Nationals placed RHP Max Scherzer on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 15, with left neck inflammation.

J.D. Martinez was scratched from the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Friday due to illness.

It doesn't sound like anything too serious, so consider the hard-hitting outfielder day-to-day. Brandon Drury replaced him in the lineup and will bat seventh for the D'Backs against Ervin Santana and the Twins.
Aug 18 - 7:46 PM

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that the concern with Trevor Rosenthal (elbow) centers around "the stability of his ligament, and surgery is option."

The level of damage in Rosenthal's ulnar collateral ligament isn't known at this point, but obviously Tommy John surgery would be the worst-case scenario. He's already received one opinion but will get a second before a decision on the next course of action is made. Seung Hwan Oh is back in the closer role for the Cards with Rosenthal sidelined.
