Indians signed RHP Brett Myers to a one-year, $7 million contract.

The deal also contains an $8 million club option for 2014. Myers spent all of 2012 in the bullpen, posting a 3.31 ERA and 41/15 K/BB ratio over 65 1/3 innings, but the Indians will stick him in the rotation. The 32-year-old has made 249 of his 377 career appearances as a starter and, at the very least, should be a solid innings-eater for the Tribe.

George Springer blasted a grand slam as part of a three hit day, leading the Astros to a 13-4 victory over the Royals on Friday.

Springer led off the game with a triple and followed it up with the grand slam the same inning. He finished the game 3-for-5 with a walk, five RBI and two runs scored. Springer has been a near-elite fantasy force with 16 home runs, 51 runs scored, 46 RBI, six steals and a .266 batting average.

Carlos Rodon struck out eight batters and gave up only two runs but was pulled one out short of a quality start and had to settle for a no-decision as the White Sox beat the Blue Jays 3-2 on Friday.

He gave up two walks and six hits, none of which left the yard. Home runs have been a problem for Rodon this year but not tonight. His ERA improves to 4.09 with an 82/29 K/BB in 81 1/3 innings. He has a good matchup versus the Twins in his next start on Thursday.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com hears from multiple major league sources that the Mets expect to sign Jose Reyes as soon as Saturday afternoon.

Reyes was placed on release waivers on Thursday after the Rockies failed to find a trade for him and he'll officially become a free agent at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Mets were originally seen as an unlikely landing spot, but a reunion has quickly picked up steam over the past few days. The Mets would only be responsible for a prorated portion of the major league minimum, so they are willing to take a chance on him even though he isn't the player he once was and recently served a suspension for a domestic violence incident with his wife. The expectation is that Reyes would be sent to the minors to get some at-bats while also working at third base. He would likely function in a super-utility role in his return to the Mets.

Mookie Betts hit a game-tying, two-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning to help the Red Sox rally to an 8-7 victory over the Rangers on Friday.

Trailing by two and down to their last out, Betts smacked a Matt Bush pitch over the center-field wall to tie the game. Later in the inning Dustin Pedroia scored on a wild pitch for the go-ahead run. Betts finished 2-for-5 on the night. He's batting .292 with 16 homers and 12 steals and leads the majors with 65 runs scored.

Melvin Upton crushed two home runs to lead the Padres to a 13-4 whipping of the Reds on Friday.

He finished the day 3-for-5 with four RBI and scored two runs. He now has 11 home runs on the season. Upton was one of the worst hitters in the league his two years in Atlanta but has been pretty good since moving to San Diego last year. His owners could benefit from a 20 homer, 30 steal season from Upton if he continues his current pace. He has stolen 16 bases this year and has stolen 40 or more three times in his career -- most recently in 2010 however.

Wil Myers went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI on Friday night versus the Reds.

The home run was his 17th. He has a .289 batting average to go with 49 runs, 50 RBI and 10 stolen bases. After three injury-plagued seasons, the 25-year-old Myers is finally turning into the fantasy stud we all expected when he was a prospect. He may surpass his career high of 335 at-bats before the All Star break.

Kyle Hendricks took a no-decision despite giving up only one base hit against the Marlins on Friday, allowing four runs (none earned) in five innings with five strikeouts and four walks.

The only hit Hendricks allowed was a grand slam by Justin Bour in the first inning, but those runs were all unearned due to an error by Addison Russell. Hendricks uncharacteristically struggled with his control, walking four and burning 105 pitches in only five innings. Hendricks will take his 2.76 ERA and 1.02 WHIP into his next start on Wednesday in Cincinnati.

The Astros announced that A.J. Reed will be called up from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday.

The move was reported earlier in the evening on Friday and now the Astros have confirmed it, as Tony Kemp was sent down to Triple-A Fresno to clear a spot on the active roster. Reed figures to see most of his at-bats at first base, but Julia Morales of ROOT Sports hears that he'll serve as the designated hitter in his major league debut on Saturday.

Willson Contreras started at catcher and batted cleanup, leading the Cubs to victory with a two-run homer and an RBI single on Friday.

Contreras moved to first base when catcher David Ross entered the game as a replacement for the injured Ben Zobrist. Now hitting .412 with three home runs in seven games since his call-up, Contreras is likely to see regular playing time at multiple positions as long as he stays hot. Contreras didn't hit for a ton of power in the minor leagues but did post elite batting average and on-base percentage numbers.

Ben Zobrist was diagnosed with a bruised left ankle after going for X-rays.

Zobrist was forced to exit Friday's game against the Marlins after he was hit in the foot by a pitch. He'll likely have to sit out Saturday's game, but consider him day-to-day for now.
Jun 24 - 11:07 PM

James Loney went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, a hit-by-pitch, and three runs scored Friday in an 8-6 victory over the Braves.

He also made a heck of a play at first base to end the game. The Mets’ offense has been struggling in a big way, but Loney has done a fine job as the regular first baseman since joining the team at the end of May. He’s now batting .305/.367/.463 with two home runs and eight RBI through 22 games. He’s not a relevant option in mixed fantasy leagues, but the Mets are happy with what he’s providing right now.
