Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post was told by a source that the Nationals and Adam LaRoche have agreed to a two-year deal.

No word yet on the terms. LaRoche held out for a three-year deal for most of the offseason, but he wasn't able to find it in free agency or from the Nats. There's little doubt that his market was affected by him being tied to draft pick compensation. Now that he's back, the Nationals figure to dangle Mike Morse in trade talks, possibly as part of an effort to acquire a left-handed reliever.

Chris Young has been moved to the Mariners' bullpen.

The veteran right-hander was scheduled to make his final regular-season start on Thursday against the Blue Jays, but the M's need to rack up as many victories as possible over this final week and aren't confident right now about what Young might give them. He had a great first half, but Young was lit up for seven runs in just three innings Saturday by a weak Astros team and owns an 8.35 ERA over his last five outings.

Nick Markakis (shoulder) is back in the Orioles' starting lineup on Monday against the Yankees.

It'll be his first start since taking a pitch off his right shoulder last Tuesday. Markakis is batting .272/.336/.375 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI in 149 games this season for the American League East champions.

Matt Adams (illness) is back in the Cardinals' lineup Monday evening versus the Cubs.

Adams was out Saturday and Sunday with a stomach bug. He's playing first base and hitting sixth as the Cardinals open a three-game series at Wrigley Field.

Matt Carpenter (illness) is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup Monday against the Cubs.

Carpenter sat out Saturday and Sunday due to a stomach bug that has made its way around the Cardinals' clubhouse. He'll bat leadoff and play third base Monday.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) is out of the Yankees' starting lineup again on Monday night.

Teixeira also sat out Saturday due to lingering soreness in his right wrist. He was recently given another cortisone shot -- his third of the season -- and is hoping to return to action at some point this week. Francisco Cervelli is at third base Monday against the Orioles.

Jason Kipnis (hamstring) won't play for the Indians on Monday night against the Royals.

Kipnis will be replaced by Justin Sellers to finish out the suspended game (which begins at 6:05 p.m. ET) and he won't be in the starting lineup for the full game to be played after that. The second baseman tweaked his hamstring on Thursday and is still sore. He has a dissapointing .234/.314/.335 slash line this season.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Mets are picking up their 2015 option on GM Sandy Alderson and "progressing toward" a contract extension.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says it'll be a three-year deal; now let's see if ownership allows him to spend some money. The Mets are headed to their fourth straight losing season under Alderson, but the club has developed a decent nucleus of players (especially on the pitching staff) and will push forward with the former A's and Padres executive at the helm. The Mets are also bringing back manager Terry Collins for the 2015 season.

Adam LaRoche said this weekend that he doesn't expect to re-sign with the Nationals over the winter.

"If you had to ask me now, I would assume that I would have to move on, unfortunately," said the veteran first baseman, who is in the final year of a two-year, $24 million contract. Washington holds a $15 million option on LaRoche for 2015, but Ryan Zimmerman is probably going to have to move across the diamond for good and so the option on LaRoche likely won't be exercised.

According to Ben Badler of Baseball America, the Rangers will hold a private workout for Cuban slugger Yasmani Tomas on Wednesday in the Dominican Republic.

The Rangers attended Tomas' open showcase on Sunday but now want to get a closer, more personal look. The Phillies are holding a private workout for Tomas on Monday and the Padres, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Giants, Red Sox, and Mets are also known to have serious interest. Tomas, a powerful 23-year-old corner outfielder, could command more than $100 million this winter. He has established residency in Haiti and is waiting to be cleared as a free agent by Major League Baseball. That should come soon.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Braves have fired general manager Frank Wren.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported early Monday morning that the club was leaning this way, and the hammer came down quickly. Wren had a good amount of overall success in his seven years as Atlanta's general manager, but somebody had to take the fall for this year's late-season collapse and it'll be Wren instead of manager Fredi Gonzalez. John Hart will take over as interim GM in Atlanta and retired skipper Bobby Cox will help lead the search for a permanent replacement. The last GM fired from the Braves was John Mullen, the man who signed Hank Aaron. It's not an organization that likes to make drastic off-the-field changes.

Desmond Jennings (knee) is done for the season.

Jennings has been on the shelf since August 28 due to discomfort in his left knee. It's beginning to show improvement, but the Rays aren't going to rush him back for the final week. "It's gotten better, it's coming along," Jennings told reporters Sunday evening. "I was worried at first, I'm not really as worried now."
