Rockies signed RHP Manny Corpas to a minor league contract.

The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Corpas spent the first five seasons of his career with the Rockies and was the closer on their 2007 club that won the National League pennant. He'll try to win a middle relief role.

Adam Jones went 2-for-3 with a walk and a steal of home in Thursday's victory against the Rays.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Orioles pulled off a delayed steal with Nelson Cruz attempting to steal second base and Jones going home after the throw. The last time an Oriole stole home came on June 14, 2009 against the Braves, when Robert Andino accomplished the feat. Jones is slashing .288/.317/.475 with 24 home runs and 78 RBI on the season.

Mets purchased the contract of 2B Dilson Herrera from Double-A Birmingham.

Well, that's a surprise. Daniel Murphy (calf) is headed to the disabled list and the Mets have made a bold move to give Herrera a shot. Acquired last season from the Pirates. Herrera entered play Thursday batting .319/.377/.471 with 12 homers, 70 RBI and 20 stolen bases between High- and Double-A and then went 3-for-4 with a homer for Birmingham. The 20-year-old should play regularly for the Mets while Murphy is out and is worth a shot in fantasy leagues even if he might not be ready.

Mets placed 2B Daniel Murphy on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 25, with a right calf strain.

The results from Murphy's MRI aren't known yet, but the club will proceed cautiously and place him on the DL regardless. Dilson Herrera will come up to play second base for the Mets.

Yankees acquired LHP Josh Outman from the Indians in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.

Outman had been at Triple-A Columbus after being removed from the Indians' 40-man roster, but he'll report to the big club with the Yankees. He has control issues (16 walks in 24 2/3 innings this season), but Outman has struck out over a batter per inning in his career as a reliever and held lefties to a .188/.257/.287 batting line.

Emilio Bonifacio finished 4-for-5 with an RBI triple, an RBI single, and a stolen base as the Braves defeated the Mets on Thursday.

Bonifacio hadn't done much at the plate since joining the Braves at the deadline, as Thursday's effort is only his third multi-hit game as a Brave. He added some insurance for the Braves with an eighth-inning RBI triple to make it 2-0 and later scored the Braves' third run. He made it 6-1 with an RBI single in the ninth. Including his time with the Cubs, Bonifacio is slashing .283/.321/.369 with 20 RBI and 19 stolen bases.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson indicated Thursday that Bartolo Colon is unlikely to be traded.

"I would say right now there's a lot less going on than some people speculate," Alderson said. It's not terribly surprising, as there have been recent reports on the three teams most connected with Colon -- the Angels, Dodgers and Royals -- downplaying interest in the righty. Colon would have to be traded by Sunday in order to be eligible for a playoff roster.

Eric Hosmer (hand) could begin a rehab assignment this weekend.

Hosmer began swinging a bat earlier this week and took batting practice Thursday for the first time since landing on the disabled list. The first baseman should only need a handful of rehab games before being activated, so a return next week is looking likely.

Indians manager Terry Francona said Thursday that Yan Gomes (concussion) is on pace to be activated Friday.

He'll go through some pre-game tests before a decision is officially made, but Gomes has been symptom-free for a while now. The Indians backstop is hitting .284/.324/.477 with 17 home runs and 53 RBI over 109 games this season.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated after Thursday's game that he planned to go with a committee at closer going forward.

He said that he nearly used Santiago Casilla in the eighth inning but decided that the matchups were better for Sergio Romo. He also had Jeremy Affeldt warming up in the ninth after Casilla issued a leadoff walk. Casilla has only blown one save since taking over the closer job but has allowed five runs over his last 11 appearances. Romo, Affledt and Casilla should all be owned in fantasy leagues.

Yusmeiro Petit set a major league record with 46 straight batters retired on his way to allowing one run over six innings Thursday in a win over the Rockies.

Petit retired the first eight batters he faced today to overtake Mark Buehrle's major league record of 45 consecutive batters retired. He then immediately gave up a double to opposing starter Jordan Lyles and a soft RBI single to Charlie Blackmon, but he buckled down after that. He ended up allowing four hits, walking none and striking out nine in his first start since replacing Tim Lincecum in the rotation. He'll get the Rockies again next week, and while that will be at Coors, he still looks like a decent play in mixed leagues.

David Wright (neck) is back in Thursday's lineup against the Braves.

That was the expectation already, but it's now official. Wright has been sidelined since Sunday due to neck spasms and a couple of days off is probably a good thing for his shoulder. He's still hoping to finish out the season strong even though he's not 100 percent.
