Marlins re-signed INF Nick Green to a minor league contract with a spring training invite.

Green, 34, batted .174 (4-for-23) with three doubles and an RBI in seven games with the Marlins last season. He could win a job as a backup middle infielder.

Mets acquired OF Yoenis Cespedes from the Tigers in exchange for RHPs Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa.

The Mets whiffed on Carlos Gomez and Jay Bruce but found the bat they were looking for in Cespedes. He'll patrol left field in New York and should provide a much-needed jolt to the Mets' lineup.

Angels placed LHP C.J. Wilson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 29, with left elbow inflammation.

Wilson had fluid drained from the elbow earlier this season and he's now having trouble with it again. It doesn't appear he has any structural issues, so the lefty should be back at some point in August. Jered Weaver (hip) will take his rotation spot.
Jul 31 - 5:30 PM

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Friday that Luis Severino's next start will come in the majors.

The Yankees weren't able to land a starter at the trade deadline, but part of the reason they felt comfortable passing on deals is surely that they felt good about giving Severino a shot. It's unclear what day the top prospect will debut, but he'll take Michael Pineda's (forearm) spot in the rotation. Severino is worth a shot in all fantasy leagues.
Jul 31 - 5:28 PM

Pirates acquired LHP J.A. Happ from the Mariners in exchange for RHP Adrian Sampson.

Happ holds a 4.64 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 108 2/3 innings this season. Despite those underwhelming numbers, you have to figure he'll enter the club's rotation. Jeff Locke is probably the most vulnerable to lose his rotation spot.
Jul 31 - 4:46 PM

CBS Sports' John Heyman reports that the Pirates have acquired Michael Morse from the Dodgers in exchange for Jose Tabata.

Morse was designated for assignment after the Dodgers picked him up in the three-team deal with the Marlins and Braves. He's hit only .214/.277/.314 in 173 plate appearances this season but offers the Pirates an option at first base against left-handed pitching.
Jul 31 - 4:23 PM

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Cubs have acquired Tommy Hunter in exchange for Junior Lake.

Hunter, who is a free agent after the season, holds a 3.63 ERA with 32 strikeouts over 44 2/3 relief innings this season. He'll help out the Cubs in a middle relief role. Lake is in the minors now but could get a look as an occasional corner outfielder.
Jul 31 - 4:07 PM

Blue Jays acquired OF Ben Revere from the Phillies for RHP Alberto Tirado and RHP Jimmy Cordero.

The Jays got a nice complimentary piece for their outfield. Revere shouldn't start over Kevin Pillar in center, but he can fill in there on occasion. He'll probably end up platooning with Chris Colabello in left field, giving the Jays more defense there at the cost of power. His fantasy value would seem to drop some, since he could hit low in the order and play less than he might have elsewhere. Still, he remains worth using in mixed leagues. The Phillies have freed up more at-bats for Domonic Brown and Cody Asche as they try to figure out their 2016 outfield.

Miguel Cabrera (calf) did some agility drills on Friday.

He's also done some hitting over the last week. Obviously running will be the biggest test for Cabrera's strained left calf and it's unclear at this point when he might be cleared for that. The Tigers think the slugger will be ready for activation from the disabled list around August 15.
Jul 31 - 3:38 PM

Joe Panik (back) is back in the Giants' lineup Friday.

Panik missed a couple games with a stiff back. He returns to a .309/.375/.440 batting line.
Jul 31 - 3:28 PM

Hanley Ramirez (shin) is not in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Ramirez injured his shin during Thursday's game. He's considered day-to-day. Alejandro De Aza is in left field Friday.
Jul 31 - 3:23 PM

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that there's "nothing happening" on the Justin Upton trade front and "it appears he's staying put at deadline."

Things can always change, of course, but there has been surprisingly little trade rumors of late involving the outfielder. The Padres appear content to pick up a draft pick for Upton this winter rather than deal him for a trade package they deem unsatisfactory.
