Yankees and RHP Joba Chamberlain avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.875 million contract.

Joba posted a 4.35 ERA and 22/6 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings last season for the Yankees after returning from major elbow and ankle injuries. The 27-year-old right-hander was arbitration-eligible for the final time. If he's not locked up, he'll hit the free agent market in November.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports MLB has suspended Hector Olivera 82 games for his involvement in an alleged domestic violence incident last month.

Olivera will not appeal the suspension, which was made retroactive to April 30. He'll be eligible for reinstatement on August 1. The Braves put Olivera on administrative leave after he was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery on April 13. The team tried to trade him after the incident but couldn't find any takers. The 31-year-old has hit .245 with two homers and 13 RBI across 30 big league appearances.

Rougned Odor's suspension has been reduced from eight games to seven.

His appeal was heard by the league on Tuesday. Odor will begin serving his ban on Friday. Jurickson Profar is expected to take his place on the active roster. This is probably as good a result as Odor could have hoped for. Some thought Odor actually got off easy after slugging Jose Bautista in a game last week. He's eligible to return June 4 against Seattle.

Royals placed 3B Mike Moustakas on the 15-day disabled list with an ACL tear in his right knee.

The move is retroactive to May 23. It's a tough break for Moustakas, who was activated from the disabled list Saturday after missing two weeks with a fractured thumb. Moustakas injured his knee in a collision with Alex Gordon in only his second game back and now faces another extended absence. This injury could be a season-ender. The 27-year-old has hit only .240 this year with seven homers in 27 games. The Royals called up Brett Eibner from Triple-A Omaha in the corresponding roster move.
May 26 - 4:16 PM

Randal Grichuk is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup Thursday night against the Nationals.

Grichuk registered his third straight multi-hit game on Wednesday, homering and singling in a loss to the Cubs, but the Cardinals will go lefty-heavy on Thursday versus Washington righty Joe Ross. Jeremy Hazelbaker is starting in center field and batting leadoff.
May 26 - 3:49 PM

Dustin Pedroia (hamstring) is in the Red Sox starting lineup on Thursday against the Rockies.

Just as he pledged late Wednesday night, after making an early exit with cramping in his right hamstring. Pedroia is batting second for the Red Sox on Thursday night against Colorado right-hander Jon Gray. Jackie Bradley Jr. will take a spin at leadoff with Mookie Betts getting a breather.
May 26 - 3:08 PM

Mookie Betts will take a night off Thursday.

It's his first absence in 88 games dating back to last season. Chris Young will start in right field and Blake Swihart is in left field Thursday versus the Rockies. Jackie Bradley is hitting leadoff against Jon Gray.
May 26 - 3:06 PM

Daniel Murphy is getting the night off Thursday.

Stephen Drew will start at second base in the Nationals' series opener against the visiting Cardinals. Murphy went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the Mets and is batting .394/.426/.617 in 46 games this year.
May 26 - 2:59 PM

Jose Bautista (suspension) is in the Blue Jays' starting lineup Thursday versus the Yankees.

Bautista had his one-game suspension appeal hearing Thursday morning in New York City, but a ruling probably won't come for another couple days. He is batting leadoff Thursday afternoon against CC Sabathia.
May 26 - 2:19 PM

Mark Teixeira received a cortisone injection for his sore neck on Thursday.

He's expected to miss the next three games, including Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Blue Jays. Teixeira began experiencing renewed discomfort in his neck on Wednesday, but an MRI ruled out anything serious. He should back in action Sunday if the cortisone has the intended effect.
May 26 - 2:04 PM

Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup again on Thursday.

Tulo is feeling better, per manager John Gibbons, but the parties involved felt it wise to get the veteran shortstop one more day of rest. Darwin Barney is starting at short Thursday afternoon against the Yankees.
May 26 - 1:55 PM

Yankees activated DH Alex Rodriguez from the 15-day disabled list.

A-Rod is at DH and batting fifth Thursday against the Blue Jays after missing the last three weeks with a strained hamstring. He went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI on his two-game rehab assignment with Double-A Trenton, but the 40-year-old returns Thursday to a rough .194/.275/.444 batting line. He offers a bit of power but not much more in what is technically his age-41 season.
