Mets and 1B Ike Davis avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.

The exact financial terms aren't available, but ESPN's Adam Rubin reports that the deal is expected to be around $3.125 million. Davis, who bounced back from a slow start last season to hit 32 homers, was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. He remains under team control through 2016.

Adam Wainwright limited the Brewers to two runs over seven innings Saturday in a 10-2 Cardinals victory.

Wainwright was staked to a massive early lead and went into cruise control, walking none and fanning four. He'll finish the second half of the 2014 regular season with a fantastic 12-4 record, 1.83 ERA, and 0.91 WHIP. The Cardinals are now tied for first place in the National League Central with the Brewers, who have dropped seven straight games.

Chris Johnson homered twice Saturday as the Braves won an 11-6 shootout against the Cubs.

Both starting pitchers were terrible on a day that the flood gates opened early and often at Wrigley Field. Johnson hit a two-run shot off Edwin Jackson in the top of the second inning and then took E-Jax deep again in the top of the fourth. He finished the afternoon with four RBI.
Jul 12 - 7:24 PM

Shane Greene delivered 7 1/3 scoreless innings Saturday in the Yankees' 3-0 blanking of the Orioles.

Greene struck out nine and surrendered only four hits in the dominant outing. He looks to be locked into a rotation spot with the Yankees, but his numbers at Triple-A were never very good and the 25-year-old right-hander is probably due for some regression in the second half.
Jul 12 - 7:13 PM

Addison Reed picked up his 21st save of the season Saturday in the Diamondbacks' 2-0 win over the Giants.

Reed retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was a needed clean outing for the 25-year-old right-hander, who has blown five saves and owns a rough 4.30 ERA in 37 2/3 innings this season.
Jul 12 - 7:01 PM

James Paxton (shoulder) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Thursday at Low-A Everett.

Paxton has been out since early April with a shoulder problem and will likely be asked to make several minor league rehab starts. The 25-year-old left-hander had an outstanding 2.25 ERA, 0.67 WHIP, and 13/2 K/BB ratio over his first 12 innings (two starts) this season and should be a valuable fantasy starter down the stretch.
Jul 12 - 6:27 PM

Jose Abreu slugged his 29th home run of the season Saturday as the White Sox beat the Indians 6-2.

Abreu hit his two-run shot off Indians starter Zach McAllister in the top of the fourth inning. The sensational rookie slugger is on pace for 49 home runs and 124 RBI.
Jul 12 - 6:26 PM

Domonic Brown was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Nationals with an illness.

It's not clear whether he'll be able to return Sunday for the Phillies' final game before the All-Star break. Brown is batting just .225/.277/.328 with six home runs and 46 RBI in 90 games this season.
Jul 12 - 4:21 PM

Victor Martinez (oblique) is expected to return to the Tigers' starting lineup on Friday.

Martinez has been sidelined with an oblique injury since July 4. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said the designated hitter is doing better and should be ready to go for the club's first game after the All-Star break.
Jul 12 - 4:16 PM

Alexei Ramirez left Saturday's game with back stiffness.

Ramirez tweaked his back in the bottom of the third inning while attempting to make a play on a groundball. The shortstop will likely sit out Sunday but should return to the White Sox starting lineup after the All-Star break.
Jul 12 - 4:15 PM

Henderson Alvarez was named to the National League All-Star team as an injury replacement for Jordan Zimmermann.

Alvarez will be the second member of the Marlins headed to Minneapolis, joining teammate Giancarlo Stanton. He's certainly had a deserving first half, registering a 6-4 record, 2.63 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 73/22 K/BB ratio over his 120 innings of work.
Jul 12 - 1:37 PM

Marco Scutaro has returned to the Giants starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Scutaro has missed the entire season thus far due to a recurring back injury. While he will be eased back into action, he makes for an interesting target in deeper mixed, and NL-only formats.
