A source told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that there is "zero chance" the Mets will be willing to meet agent Scott Boras' asking price for Michael Bourn.

Even with Bourn's market appearing to sour as the days drop off the calendar, the Mets never seemed like a likely destination. Interestingly, the Mets have explored the possibility of requesting that the No. 11 pick be protected since the Pirates jumped ahead of them when they were unable to sign Mark Appel. It sounds like it would be a moot point, though.

Dodgers activated OF Carl Crawford from the 15-day disabled list.

That's the good news. The bad news is that manager Don Mattingly has indicated a desire to keep an arrangement of Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Yasiel Puig in the outfield, which means Crawford and is $20.25 million salary are headed for the bench. Crawford is batting .267/.293/.400 with four homers, 18 RBI and nine stolen bases over 44 games this season.

Jon Niese (shoulder) is expected to rejoin the Mets' rotation on July 21 in Seattle.

That's just one day later than he's eligible to return. Tests have revealed inflammation of the AC joint in Niese's left shoulder, which, all things considered, was good news. The left-hander posted a 2.96 ERA over 17 starts before being placed on the disabled list over the weekend.

Anthony Rizzo finished first in the balloting for the National League Final Vote.

Rizzo beat out Justin Morneau, Anthony Rendon, Casey McGehee, and Justin Upton to secure the first All-Star selection of his career. The 24-year-old has been excellent this season, batting .277/.386/.406 with 20 home runs and 49 RBI over 89 games.
Jul 10 - 5:14 PM

Chris Sale has won the All-Star Game Final Vote competition for the American League.

Sale beat out Rick Porcello, Corey Kluber, Dallas Keuchel, and Garrett Richards in the balloting. With a 2.08 ERA and 102/16 K/BB ratio over 95 innings, the 25-year-old southpaw is plenty deserving of the honor. He now has three straight All-Star selections.

Brandon Phillips will undergo left thumb surgery and is expected to miss around six weeks.

The exact nature of the injury isn't yet known, but it's apparently not as serious as Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, who is expected to miss 8-12 weeks following thumb surgery. The Reds figure to look to Ramon Santiago as their primary second baseman for now.
Jul 10 - 5:00 PM

Brett Gardner (abdominal strain) is back in Thursday's lineup against the Indians.

Gardner was held out of Wednesday's lineup with a lower abdominal strain, but he apparently feels well enough to give it a go Thursday. The Yankees need some good news right now and this certainly qualifies.
Jul 10 - 4:57 PM

Angels placed LHP C.J. Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with a right ankle sprain.

Wilson was knocked around for six runs (three earned) in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Blue Jays and has a 10.26 ERA over his last four starts, so an injury would explain the struggles. Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto characterized Wilson's ankle sprain as "moderate" and he figures to miss 2-4 weeks.
Jul 10 - 4:33 PM

Yadier Molina has been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right thumb and will undergo surgery.

Molina is among the most irreplaceable players in baseball, and now the second-place Cardinals are likely going to be without him for the remainder of the 2014 regular season. Tony Cruz is starting at catcher in St. Louis on Thursday night against the Pirates, but the Cards might need to go shopping for an upgrade. Molina suffered the torn ligament Wednesday on an awkward slide into third base.
Jul 10 - 3:50 PM

Yankees placed DH Carlos Beltran on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Beltran suffered multiple facial fractures (and a concussion) when he was struck in the face by a tipped batting practice ball on Wednesday night. He reported feeling better a few hours after the injury and will aim to return to the Yankees right after the All-Star break.
Jul 10 - 3:48 PM

Royals placed LHP Jason Vargas on the 15-day disabled list with appendicitis.

Vargas underwent an appendectomy on Thursday and could be out 3-4 weeks. Bruce Chen seems likely to take his rotation spot. Vargas, 31, owns a 3.31 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 82/29 K/BB ratio in 125 innings this season.
Jul 10 - 3:40 PM

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, Brandon Phillips (thumb) will be out for "a while."

Phillips rolled over his left thumb Wednesday while trying to make a diving play on the edge of the outfield grass. The Reds initially labeled it a thumb sprain, but Rosenthal is hearing from sources that it's more of a "ligament issue" and "possible tear." Ramon Santiago started at second base for Cincinnati on Thursday afternoon against the Cubs.
