Diamondbacks acquired SS Nick Ahmed from the Braves in the seven-player Justin Upton trade.

The D'Backs are now planning to put Ahmed into a package that could help them land right-hander Rick Porcello from the Tigers. The 22-year-old shortstop was a second-round selection in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of Connecticut. He hit .269/.337/.391 with 40 steals in 130 games last season in High-A ball.

Rays placed RHP Alex Colome on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 19, with right biceps tendinitis.

Colome hasn't appeared in a game since June 18, so he's eligible to return soon, but the severity of the injury isn't yet known. Rays manager Kevin Cash is likely to use a committee at closer during his absence. Erasmo Ramirez has struggled quite a bit recently, so Xavier Cedeno could be the pitcher to stash in this situation.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said during a radio appearance on WEEI that Xander Bogaerts will get the day off off Tuesday versus the Rays.

Farrell has talked about giving Bogaerts a day off, so he's going to get it out of the way. Marco Hernandez is expected to start at shortstop.

Marcell Ozuna (wrist) is back in Tuesday's lineup against the Tigers.

Ozuna missed back-to-back games over the weekend with a sore left wrist, but he's back in center field for the series opener against the Tigers. Ichiro Suzuki is playing right field while Giancarlo Stanton will serve as the designated hitter.

Padres placed OF Jon Jay on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 20, with a broken right forearm.

Brutal news for Jay, who was hit in the right wrist/forearm area with a pitch on June 19. According to Marty Caswell of 1090 Sports Radio in San Diego, Padres general manager A.J. Preller said that the outfielder is slated to be re-evaluated in three weeks. The 31-year-old was batting .296/.345/.407 through 68 games this season, so he was shaping up to be a nice trade chip for San Diego prior to the injury.

Nationals purchased the contract of RHP Lucas Giolito from Double-A Harrisburg.

Giolito will skip Triple-A and make his major league debut Tuesday against the Mets. The Nationals haven't committed to him beyond this start, but he has the talent and ability to run away with the opportunity. Armed with a mid-to-high 90s fastball and a power curveball, the 21-year-old had a 3.17 ERA and 72/34 K/BB ratio in 71 innings over 14 starts this season in Double-A. His control can be an issue at times, but he needs to be owned in most fantasy leagues.

Marc Carig of Newsday reports that despite Noah Syndergaard's denial, he is indeed pitching with a bone spur in his elbow.

Syndergaard denied reports after Monday's game, but Mike Puma of the New York Post adds that it's at the pitcher's "insistence" that the club doesn't acknowledge the bone spur. The cat is out of the bag now, though the severity of the bone spur isn't known and it's possible he'll be able to pitch through it, as many pitchers do. The question is how effective he'll be. Syndergaard showed his normal velocity Monday against the Nationals, but he struggled with his control while giving up a season-high five runs over three innings.

Danny Duffy had it going Monday, striking out eight while limiting the Cardinals to two runs over eight frames in a 6-2 victory.

Duffy served up a two-run homer to Matt Holliday in the first inning but was essentially untouchable after that, permitting just four baserunners over his final seven frames. The left-hander gave up six hits and didn't walk anyone. It was a fine bounce-back outing after Duffy had struggled in his last two trips to the hill. Duffy will go up against the Phillies this weekend.

Aledmys Diaz (eye) will go to the hospital Monday night for further testing.

Diaz was struck above the right eye by a foul ball in the ninth inning Monday versus the Royals, but the Cardinals don't believe he suffered a fracture to his orbital bone. Still, they'll send him for more tests to be on the safe side. The Cardinals should have an update on his status Tuesday.
Jun 27 - 11:40 PM

Nick Franklin went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and five RBI in Monday's win over the Red Sox.

Franklin was making just his second start in a week since being recalled and he certainly made it count. He doubled in two runs in the first, singled in one in the third and then took Koji Uehara deep in the seventh. While he might have earned another start or two with this performance, Franklin probably isn't going to play regularly enough to produce stable fantasy value.

Red Sox optioned LHP Eduardo Rodriguez to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Rodriguez got the boot after he was torched for nine runs on 11 hits (including two home runs) and one walk over 2 2/3 innings Monday against the Rays. He also heard an earful from veteran second baseman Dustin Pedroia. The southpaw has an ugly 8.59 ERA through six starts this season and needs to do better before earning another opportunity. It's unclear where the Red Sox will go from here in their rotation, but Aaron Wilkerson is a possibility to be called up from the minors, at least as a stopgap option.
Jun 27 - 11:27 PM

Ben Revere went 4-for-5 with an RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases in Monday's victory over the Mets.

It was a good time for Revere to have a big night with Trea Turner making his professional debut in center field at Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. The speedster had three of the Nationals' six steals on the night, as teams are continuing to run wild on Noah Syndergaard. Revere was officially put on notice with the Turner news, so he'll need to keep it going.
