Dodgers signed INF/OF Ryan Mount to a minor league contract.

A second-round pick in 2005, Mount spent the last four seasons with the Angels' Double-A affiliate. He's merely organizational depth.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports that the Twins are "fielding calls" on Ervin Santana and Jaime Garcia.

Minnesota could also move second baseman Brian Dozier and closer Brandon Kintzler ahead of Monday's trade deadline. Santana, a 2017 American League All-Star, boasts a 3.37 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 104/47 K/BB ratio in 136 1/3 innings this season and he leads all MLB pitchers with three shutouts. The 34-year-old right-hander is due $13.5 million in 2018 and he carries a $14 million vesting option for 2019. Garcia was just acquired from the Braves, but the Twins have suddenly lost four straight games.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says the Astros "might be the most focused team" in pursuit of Tigers reliever Justin Wilson.

Wilson has been connected to just about every contending club, but the talent-rich Astros could probably beat any trade offer if they truly wanted to. Wilson, 29, owns a 2.75 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 55/16 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings this season for Detroit, along with 12 saves. The left-hander is under contractual control through 2018.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle believes A's manager Bob Melvin is considering a change at closer.

Santiago Casilla took a blown save and a loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays after surrendering three runs on a pair of homers in the bottom of the ninth inning and he now holds a 4.66 ERA in 39 total appearances this year. Blake Treinen, recently acquired from the Nationals, could be next in line at closer in Oakland. Ryan Dull (knee) just returned from the disabled list but owns an ugly 6.32 ERA in 2017.

Pirates outfield prospect Jordan Luplow is expected to be promoted to the majors on Friday.

The news was broken by the official Twitter account of the Fresno State Bulldogs, Luplow's college team. A third-round pick in 2014, Luplow has batted .296/.377/.543 with 21 home runs and 50 RBI in 94 games this season between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. He should see regular playing time while Gregory Polanco recovers from a hamstring strain and may be worth a grab in deeper fantasy formats.

Rays acquired LHP Dan Jennings from the White Sox for 1B Casey Gillaspie.

Yet another White Sox reliever out the door. Jennings had registered a 3.45 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 38/19 K/BB ratio in 44 1/3 innings this season for Chicago and will now slide into a left-handed setup role with Tampa Bay. The 30-year-old southpaw is under contractual control through 2019.
Jul 27 - 10:56 AM

Nationals placed RHP Stephen Strasburg on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow nerve impingement.

Strasburg played long-toss without issue on Wednesday and the plan for now calls for him to miss just one turn in the starting rotation, but the first-place Nationals can afford to play this one cautiously. Erick Fedde, a top-100 prospect, will be promoted from Triple-A Syracuse to pitch in Strasburg's place on Saturday against the Rockies.
Jul 27 - 9:28 AM

Justin Turner played the role of hero on Wednesday, delivering a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning against the Twins.

You just can't ever count this team out. The Dodgers trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning of this one and rallied all the way back. The stage was set for Turner's dramatics after Austin Barnes and Chris Taylor each singled with one out in the ninth. After Corey Seager grounded out to advance the runners, Turner came to the dish and lined a two-strike offering into left field for the game-winner. Turner is hitting an absurd .362/.456/.556 with 11 homers and 41 RBI on the season.

Eric Hosmer went 5-for-6 with a grand slam, five runs, six RBI and a stolen base as his team crushed the Tigers on Wednesday.

He blasted a grand slam off reliever Warwick Saupold in the Royals' nine-run seventh-inning outburst. Hosmer singled four times in the ballgame, two of which drove in runs. He scored every time he reached base. The monster evening boosted his triple slash to .319/.375/.501 with 16 home runs and 54 RBI on the season.
Jul 27 - 1:07 AM

Anthony Rizzo went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI on Wednesday, leading the Cubs to an 8-3 victory over their cross-town rivals.

Rizzo's bases-clearing three-run double off of James Shields in the fifth inning increased the Cubs' lead to 4-0 and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He chipped in an RBI single in the eighth inning for good measure. Rizzo is now hitting .258/.385/.508 with 23 homers and 66 RBI on the season.
Jul 27 - 12:35 AM

Aaron Nola punched out 10 batters in six shutout innings to earn a 9-0 win over the Astros on Wednesday.

His effort was all the more impressive considering it came against the best team in the American League. He gave up just four hits and one walk while throwing 103 pitches in the gem. His record improves to 8-6 with a 3.17 ERA through 16 starts. He has 107 strikeouts and 30 walks in 99 1/3 innings. He lines up for two starts next week, although one of them will be in Coors Field against the Rockies.
Jul 27 - 12:10 AM

Cameron Rupp cranked a pair of two-run homers during Wednesday's defeat of the Astros.

The first came off starter Mike Fiers to open the game's scoring in the fourth inning. The second came off reliever Michael Feliz to conclude the game's scoring in the sixth. First baseman Tommy Joseph was on base for both of them. Rupp now has a .233 batting average with nine home runs and 22 RBI on the season.
