Dodgers prospect right-hander Chris Withrow has permanently switched from being a starting pitcher to a reliever.

Withrow, who turns 24 in April, was a first-round pick of the Dodgers back in 2007. After struggling through a case of the yips and chronic back problems, he posted a 3.28 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 24 2/3 innings in Double-A last season as a reliever. His control remains an issue, but the Dodgers are hopeful that the hard-throwing right-hander has found a home in the bullpen.

Bartolo Colon pitched effectively into the eighth inning, earning his fifth win of the season to help the Mets take down the Orioles on Tuesday.

Colon was working on a shutout until Manny Machado lifted a solo home run to left-center with one out in the eighth inning. He got one more out, then was taken out of the game. The right-hander scattered six hits in total while issuing no walks and striking out nine. The 41-year-old has been in top form through six starts, sporting a terrific 2.90 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and a 36/1 K/BB ratio in 40 1/3 innings. Colon will go for win number six at Wrigley Field against the Cubs next.

Stephen Strasburg exited Tuesday's game against the Marlins with an apparent injury.

Strasburg labored through three innings and 64 pitches before Doug Fister pinch-hit for him. Nationals' broadcasters were speculating that it might be Strasburg's back, but that's just speculation at this point. The team should pass along concrete details shortly.

Tuesday's contest between the Rockies and Diamondbacks has been postponed due to rain.

This is the second game in a row that's been washed out in the series. The two teams will attempt to make up the contest on Wednesday as part of a double-header, with the first game scheduled for 3:10 ET and the second to follow 20-30 minutes after its conclusion.

Padres placed RHP Brandon Morrow on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 3, with right shoulder inflammation.

Big blow for Morrow and the Padres. The right-hander had been superb through the first month of the 2015 campaign, posting a 2.73 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 23/7 K/BB ratio in 33 innings. Injuries have limited Morrow to fewer than 20 starts in each of the last two seasons, but none of them have been shoulder-related. There's no current timetable for his return, though Morrow himself indicated that he believes that the disabled list stint is a precautionary measure and that he should be able to get back on the field when he's eligible to return in late May.

Marco Gonzales (pectoral) is scheduled to return to the Triple-A Memphis rotation on Saturday.

Gonzales has been on the shelf since April 22 with a sore left pectoral muscle. If he pitches well on Saturday, the Cardinals might go ahead and insert the 23-year-old left-hander into their starting rotation next week. There's a vacancy with Adam Wainwright (heel) ruled out for the remainder of the 2015 season, and Gonzales is capable of providing a good amount of fantasy production in that spot.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times confirms that Alex Cobb has a partial ligament tear in his right elbow.

Cobb is going to try to pitch through it, but pitchers who suffer torn elbow ligaments almost always wind up undergoing Tommy John surgery. Cobb, 27, posted a 2.87 ERA, 1.136 WHIP, and 149/47 K/BB ratio over 166 1/3 innings last season. It's obviously a really bad situation for the Rays, who are off to a decent start in 2015.
May 5 - 5:36 PM

Greg Holland (pectoral) will be activated Wednesday.

The initial plan called for Holland to be activated Tuesday, but the Royals will give their closer one extra day of rest before throwing him back into the fire. Holland has been on the shelf since April 18 with a pectoral strain. He'll push Wade Davis back into a setup role.
May 5 - 5:05 PM

Joe Wieland has been confirmed as the Dodgers' starter for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Wieland owns a cool 3.60 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 22/2 K/BB ratio in 20 innings this season at Triple-A Oklahoma City and makes for an attractive fantasy streamer against the struggling Brewers. The 25-year-old right-hander could stick around for a bit if he pitches well.

An MRI came up clean on Hanley Ramirez's shoulder.

Ramirez was lifted from Monday's game against the Rays after banging his left shoulder against the left field wall at Fenway Park while trying to make a catch. He showed improved range of motion on Tuesday and is hoping to avoid the disabled list, but he'll be out for at least a handful of games. The 31-year-old slugger had racked up 10 home runs and 22 RBI through just 92 at-bats.

Indians activated 1B Nick Swisher from the 15-day disabled list.

Swisher is starting at DH and batting sixth for the Tribe in his 2015 regular-season debut Tuesday night against the Royals. He missed the first month of the season while rehabbing dual knee surgeries. The 34-year-old only has fringe value in standard mixed fantasy leagues after batting .208/.278/.331 with eight home runs and 42 RBI in 97 games last summer.
May 5 - 4:32 PM

According to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Devin Mesoraco still hasn't tried squatting and is trying to avoid surgery for his left hip impingement.

Mesoraco hasn't started a game since April 11 due to the hip impingement, yet the Reds have opted against placing him on the disabled list. He will be able to DH during the Reds' upcoming weekend series against the White Sox, so a decision on a potential surgery will presumably be held off until then. Mesoraco would be out for four months if he does ultimately have to go under the knife.
