Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets made a four-year, $48 million offer to Michael Bourn.

That's the exact amount of guaranteed money that Bourn got Monday night from the Indians, but his deal with Cleveland carries a $12 million vesting option for the 2017 season. The Mets were told by Major League Baseball that the grievance over retaining their 2013 first-round pick would not have a resolution for 2-3 weeks.

Alex Bregman hit another double Wednesday in the Astros' 5-4 defeat of the Pirates.

That's the ninth double and 13th extra-base hit in the last 18 games for Bregman, who is having a big August after struggling out of the gate following his July 25 promotion to the major leagues. The 22-year-old top prospect looks like a must-own in standard leagues for the stretch run. He had a .469 OPS nine days ago. It's now up to 694.
Aug 24 - 3:50 PM

Devon Travis (finger) remains out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Travis received a cortisone injection Tuesday for an issue with the third knuckle on his right hand. It's not clear when he might return. Darwin Barney is starting at second base and batting leadoff on Wednesday versus Angels right-hander Matt Shoemaker.
Aug 24 - 3:42 PM

Hanley Ramirez is getting a day off Wednesday.

Travis Shaw will start at first base and Brock Holt will start at third base versus Rays right-hander Matt Andriese. Hanley will be available off the bench.
Aug 24 - 3:20 PM

Marcell Ozuna is in the Marlins' starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Royals.

Ozuna made an early exit from Tuesday's game because of a private family emergency. He is starting in center field and batting cleanup Wednesday at home versus Kansas City right-hander Dillon Gee.
Aug 24 - 3:13 PM

Yoenis Cespedes reiterated Tuesday that he does not plan to exercise his opt-out this winter.

We'll believe that when it becomes official. Cespedes is batting .295/.365/.570 with 25 home runs and 64 RBI in 98 games this year -- the first year of a three-year, $75 million deal with the Mets that includes an opt-out clause leading into 2017. His current .936 OPS would be the highest of his career by a pretty wide margin. The 30-year-old outfielder stands to cash in this winter in a weak free agent market and we expect him to do just that. He could still return to the Mets, but with a bigger contract guarantee.
Aug 24 - 2:39 PM

Zack Cozart (knee, heel) remains out Wednesday.

Cozart has now missed a full week due to soreness in his right knee and Achilles. The hot-hitting Jose Peraza will get another start at shortstop versus the Rangers.
Aug 24 - 2:24 PM

Hector Rondon (triceps) reported feeling good after playing catch on Wednesday.

It was his first time throwing since he landed on the disabled list August 19, retroactive to August 17, with a right triceps strain. Rondon plans to throw on flat ground again in a couple days before possibly beginning mound work. There is no exact timetable for his return, but early-to-mid September seems about right at this point.
Aug 24 - 1:54 PM

Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski reiterated Wednesday morning that the team is still waiting on a decision from free agent Jonathan Papelbon.

Dombrowski and Co. reached out to Papelbon last week after he was released by the Nationals, but there has been no movement toward a contract agreement. "We did express some interest, but he has to decide what he wants to do," Dombrowski told MLB Network Radio. "We are open, we did call, he has to decide." Papelbon had a 4.37 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 35 innings this season with Washington.
Aug 24 - 12:59 PM

Kyle Seager will be held out Wednesday after fouling a ball off his foot on Tuesday night.

It doesn't sound like anything serious, but the Mariners have a day game against the Yankees and don't want to risk making the matter worse. Seager went 0-for-3 on Tuesday versus New York but still owns a cool .286/.364/.515 batting line with 24 home runs and 83 RBI in 124 games this season for Seattle.
Aug 24 - 12:54 PM

Anthony Rizzo is getting the day off Wednesday.

Kris Bryant will start at first base, Jorge Soler will play left field, and Javier Baez will handle the hot corner in the afternoon finale at San Diego's Petco Park. It's just a routine day of rest for Rizzo.
Aug 24 - 12:48 PM

DJ LeMahieu (wrist) is out of the Rockies' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Brewers.

LeMahieu was a late scratch Tuesday due to left wrist inflammation and is apparently still dealing with some discomfort. Daniel Descalso will start at second base and bat sixth on Wednesday afternoon against Zach Davies.
