According to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "conversations continue to occur" between the Cardinals front office and right-handed starter Adam Wainwright.

Both sides indicated last week that there was a stall in the negotiations, but that's apparently not the case. Strauss notes that there was a similar "pause" last spring just before the Cardinals announced a five-year, $75 million contract extension with catcher Yadier Molina. Wainwright is hoping to have some kind of resolution by the start of the regular season. The 31-year-old right-hander owns a remarkable 3.15 career ERA.

Bobby Parnell earned his sixth save of 2013 in the Mets' 4-3 win over the Cubs on Sunday.

Parnell struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning. The 28-year-old right-hander has an exceptional 0.93 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 18/3 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings this season to go along with his six saves. The Mets aren't going to win many games, but Parnell carries plenty of mixed league fantasy value.
May 19 - 5:33 PM

Matt Moore ran his record to 8-0 after tossing seven innings of one-run ball in Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Orioles.

Moore notched just three strikeouts on the day, but he allowed only five hits and walked one. The left-hander has still had some control problems this season, but he's limited the damage by giving up just 34 hits over 55 innings. A few more balls are sure to start falling in at some point, but the young southpaw should remain a fantasy ace. He'll face the Yankees next weekend.

Ryan Howard will have a precautionary MRI on his left knee Monday.

The full extent of the injury isn't yet known, but it could provide some context to Howard's early struggles. The Phillies will provide an update on his status following the results of the MRI. Howard is not expected to play in Monday's game against the Marlins.
May 19 - 5:08 PM

Rangers placed 2B Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, with an intercoastal strain.

Kinsler hasn't started the last two games with rib soreness and said he still felt discomfort during batting practice on Sunday. The Rangers aren't overly concerned about the injury, but top prospect Jurickson Profar will be called up to replace Kinsler on the active roster. Kinsler is batting .302/.369/.500 with seven home runs through his first 40 games this season.
May 19 - 4:43 PM

Ricky Nolasco whiffed 11 batters while holding the Diamondbacks to one run over eight frames in Sunday's 2-1 win.

Nolasco came out for the ninth trying to finish off a shutout but was pulled after giving up a leadoff double to Didi Gregorius. The bullpen let the inherited runner score but eventually closed it out in nail-biting fashion. Nolasco has gone through his typical ups and downs but ultimately has pitched pretty well for the Fish, posting a 3.96 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He'll face the White Sox next weekend.
May 19 - 4:37 PM

Aroldis Chapman blew his second straight save chance Sunday in the Reds' loss to the Phillies.

Chapman entered with the Reds leading 2-1 and then gave up back-to-back solo homers to Erik Kratz and Freddy Galvis. The hard-throwing lefty hasn't enjoyed the cleanest May but is obviously still the Cincinnati closer. He'll try to bounce back in the next opportunity that he gets.
May 19 - 4:36 PM

Jason Grilli earned his 17th save of the season Sunday in the Pirates' 1-0 defeat of the Astros.

Grilli retired all three batters he faced, needing only 10 pitches. He's been probably the best closer in baseball through the first seven weeks of the 2013 season, boasting a 0.92 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 31/4 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings. He has not blown an opportunity.
May 19 - 4:10 PM

Justin Masterson struck out a season-high 11 batters while tossing seven scoreless frames in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Mariners.

Masterson permitted just three singles, walked a pair and hit a batter. The brilliant outing comes on the heels of a shutout of the Yankees, and he has now won seven games on the year. The big right-hander is looking much more like the 2011 version and in fact has been even better to this point. He'll bring a 2.83 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into Boston next weekend.
May 19 - 4:02 PM

Carlos Ruiz left Sunday's game against the Reds with a right hamstring strain.

Ruiz hurt himself while running the bases. There's no word yet on the severity of the injury, but a trip to the disabled list would seem to be a distinct possibility. Humberto Quintero would take Ruiz's spot on the roster if a move needs to be made.
May 19 - 2:30 PM

Bryce Harper (knee) is not in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Harper is still feeling banged up from last week's collision with the Dodger Stadium outfield wall. It's his left knee that has been bothering him most. He'll try to return to the Nationals' starting lineup on Monday.
May 19 - 1:55 PM

Adam Dunn (back) is back in the White Sox' lineup Sunday.

Dunn left Saturday's game with back spasms, but he's feeling a lot better a day later. The veteran is batting .421/.450/1.158 with four homers and 10 RBI over his last five games.
