Lorenzo Cain (hand) expects to make his Cactus League debut at some point next week.

Cain injured his right hand during team drills earlier this week, but has already resumed hitting activities. The Royals have cleared him of anything serious and he hopes to play as soon as Monday.

Chris Davis blasted a two-run homer on Sunday, powering the Orioles to a 3-1 victory over the Yankees in a rain-shortened five-inning game.

Davis connected on an opposite field two-run blast off Chase Whitley in the fourth inning, getting the O's on the board and proving to provide the margin of victory. He finished the night 1-for-2, finishing the first half of the season with a disappointing .199/.309/.391 line to go along with 15 long balls and 48 RBI.

Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed two hits while striking out 10 over six shutout innings in a 1-0 win over the Padres on Sunday.

Ryu bounced back from one of his worst starts of the year to turn in one of his best. The left-hander allowed just two singles without walking a batter, and his 10 strikeouts were a season high. Ryu moved to 10-5 with a 3.44 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 93/21 K/BB ratio over 104 2/3 innings, and he should continue to be one of the best starters in the National League in the second half.
Jul 13 - 11:21 PM

Brian Dozier went 3-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI in the Twins' 13-5 beatdown of the Rockies on Sunday.

Dozier led off the game with a ground-rule double, and he only got better from there. Dozier hit a solo home run in the eighth and added a three-run homer in the ninth for good measure. This season is shaping up to be Dozier's coming out party -- the second baseman has 18 home runs, 16 stolen bases, 45 RBI and an American League-best 69 runs scored heading into the break.
Jul 13 - 10:49 PM

Buster Posey hit one of the Giants' two grand slams on the day, propelling the Giants to an 8-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

The homer was Posey's 10th of the season and his first since June 14. The catcher is having a down year by his standards, batting .275/.331/.422 with 46 RBI. He's particularly struggled in July, so perhaps the All-Star break comes at a good time for the 27-year-old.
Jul 13 - 9:57 PM

Sonny Gray allowed one unearned run over 7 2/3 innings in the Athletics' 4-1 victory over the Mariners on Sunday.

Gray gave up six hits and walked two, striking out five. Gray has now won four straight to run his record to 10-3. The right-hander is emerging as a front-of-the-rotation pitcher this season, owning a 2.79 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 19 starts. He should continue to pitch well in the season's second half.
Jul 13 - 9:23 PM

Mike Trout went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI as the Angels beat the Rangers 10-7 on Sunday.

Trout knocked a three-run double in the second inning before tacking on an RBI double in the fourth. It's been another remarkable first half for the 22-year-old, who's among the American League leaders in most every offensive category. He'll continue to be the most valuable fantasy player in the game when the second half starts up Friday.
Jul 13 - 8:54 PM

Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports that the Mariners have had serious discussions with the Phillies about acquiring outfielder Marlon Byrd.

There were reports earlier in the week that the Mariners had scouted the 36-year-old slugger. He's in the first year of a two-year, $16 million contract and has already indicated that he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause. The Mariners are in desperate need for a right-handed power bat, and Byrd seems like a very logical fit.
Jul 13 - 8:38 PM

Joey Gallo was named MVP of the Futures Game on Sunday after his towering two-run homer led Team USA to a 3-2 victory over the World Team at Target Field in Minnesota.

The USA team had fallen behind in the top half of the sixth inning when Javier Baez smashed a two-run homer of his own, but Gallo's answer in the bottom half of the inning was too much for the World Squad to overcome. The 20-year-old slugger is hitting an absurd .307/.434/.703 with 31 homers and 73 RBI over 85 games between High-A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Frisco this season.
Jul 13 - 8:24 PM

Chris Johnson had three hits -- including a home run -- three RBI and three runs scored in the Braves' 10-7 win over the Cubs on Sunday.

It's been a big few days for the third baseman, who's got three home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored over the past two games. The strong finish to the first half leaves Johnson with a .277/.301/.378 line. Johnson hit 15 home runs in 488 at-bats in 2012, so maybe the sudden outburst bodes well for his power production in the second half.
Jul 13 - 8:11 PM

Clay Buchholz struck out 12 while allowing just three hits in an 11-0 shutout of the Astros on Sunday.

It's been a season to forget thus far for the 29-year-old, but Sunday reminded fans just how dominant Buchholz can be when he's on. The right-hander allowed just three singles and didn't walk a batter, using 109 pitches to finish his first shutout of 2014. The start could give him some confidence heading into the season's second half.
Jul 13 - 7:26 PM

Brock Holt finished 5-for-6 with a home run and two runs scored against the Astros on Sunday.

Holt put an exclamation point on a breakout first half, hitting his third home run of the season to go with four singles. The 26-year-old has been a revelation for the Red Sox this season, batting .327/.371/.463 and serving as the team's primary leadoff hitter. Look for him to continue his strong season in the second half.
