Miguel Montero (thumb) returned to the Diamondbacks' lineup Wednesday.

Montero missed time earlier this week with a thumb infection, but it's no longer a concern at this point. The injury was never considered serious and won't impact his status for Opening Day.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Nationals "are trailing at least three other teams" in the pursuit of Aroldis Chapman.

It's a notable change, as they had been viewed as the favorite. It was Heyman who previously reported that the Yankees wanted Joe Ross but the Nats weren't willing to part with him, so perhaps that could be a deal killer between the two teams. Heyman backs up FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal's previous report about the Cubs possibly jumping into the lead for Chapman, as he says they're "pushing hard" for the reliever. The Indians and Giants are in on Chapman, as well, although Alex Pavlovic of CSNBayArea.com hears that the Giants "aren't in the final mix" for the reliever.

Mookie Betts (knee) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

He's missed two straight starts after departing Friday's contest with a sore right knee. The good news is Betts is expected to be available off the bench and is hoping to be back in the lineup Monday. Brock Holt is in right field and Bryce Brentz is in left Sunday.

SiriusXM's Craig Mish reports that Wei-Yin Chen's injury is arm related and is "could be (his) elbow."

The Marlins announced Saturday that Chen would not start Monday, but they didn't reveal the nature of his injury. It's unclear at this point how serious the ailment might be, but we should find out before long. Jarred Cosart is taking Chen's spot in the rotation for now, but the club is almost surely going to land a starter prior to the trade deadline.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Cubs are "strong in mix" for Aroldis Chapman.

The Nationals have been perceived as the favorites to land Chapman and they still might be, but the Cubs appear to be a threat. Rosenthal adds that there are "at least two other clubs involved" for Chapman in addition to the Cubs, noting that Giants, Dodgers and Indians in addition to the aforementioned Nats have been connected to the reliever.

Nationals recalled RHP Lucas Giolito from Triple-A Syracuse.

Giolito will rejoin the Nats' rotation on Sunday against the Padres. He's been up and down in his two starts with the big club and probably isn't guaranteed anything beyond Sunday with Joe Ross (shoulder) due back soon. However, Giolito certainly makes for an interesting streaming option against San Diego.

Blue Jays designated RHP Drew Storen for assignment.

What a disaster of a season it's been for Storen, who has posted a 6.21 ERA over 38 appearances with the Jays. His velocity has also been down a bit, although he's struck out a batter per inning. Storen will almost surely clear waivers given his $8.375 million salary, although it's possible the Jays will be able to work out a trade.
Jul 24 - 10:42 AM

Bryce Harper is not in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

It's a rare day off for the slugger. Chris Heisey is handling right field in his place. The Nats also have Michael Taylor in center field and Trea Turner in the leadoff spot, as Ben Revere is on the bench.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Pirates are "among the teams evaluating" Matt Moore and Jake Odorizzi.

Tyler Glasnow (shoulder) and Chad Kuhl (biceps) both went down with injuries Saturday, which is surely related to the Pirates being in the market for a starter. They'll have some competition, as Moore and Odorizzi are both hot commodities, especially with it being a relatively light market for starting pitching.
Jul 24 - 10:37 AM

Pirates placed RHP Tyler Glasnow on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury.

Glasnow departed Saturday's start against the Phillies with a sore shoulder. It's unclear at this point whether he might be dealing with any structural issues, but obviously the Pirates don't want to take any chances here. The club could offer more on a potential timetable for Glasnow later Sunday.

Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News was told by a Mets source that Lucas Duda (back) likely wouldn't return "until late August at best."

Duda has resumed running, swinging and throwing as he works his way back from a stress fracture in his back, although he's only taken dry swings to this point. While things appear to be on track, he obviously has a ways to go. "I think it’s a progression. I just started hitting today," Duda said. "We are progressing on the right track, so I will take it."
Jul 24 - 10:27 AM

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Nationals "could be a favorite" to land Aroldis Chapman.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Saturday that the Yankees are telling teams they are close to dealing Chapman and Heyman says the reliever is the Nats' main target at the trade deadline. It appears that something could get done soon, although Heyman notes that the Yanks are targeting Joe Ross in a deal but the Nats are "disinclined to trade him."
