Nolan Reimold (shoulder) is back in the Orioles' lineup Tuesday as the designated hitter.

Reimold hasn't played Friday's Grapefruit League due to a sore right shoulder. He mostly wanted to stay away from throwing, so he should be fine to DH for now. However, it might be a couple days before he's ready to play the field again.

Nationals manager Matt Williams confirmed Friday that Denard Span will undergo season-ending surgery on his left hip next Tuesday.

He also revealed that it will be to repair Span's labrum, which has been bothering the outfielder for a while. The Nats think the hip issue is connected to the core and back problems Span was plagued by this season. It's a really tough break for Span, as he's slated to hit free agency in a couple months. The timetable for his recovery should be known after Tuesday's procedure.

Rougned Odor (finger) remained out of the Rangers' lineup Friday.

Odor hasn't played since cracking his right middle fingernail when he was hit by a grounder Tuesday. He did work out again prior to the game and should be back in there soon. Hanser Alberto is holding down second base again in Odor's place.

Matt Kemp (shoulder) remained out of the Padres' lineup Friday.

It's the second straight game Kemp has been out with a sore left shoulder. He remains day-to-day. Travis Jankowski is in right field again in Kemp's place.
Aug 28 - 4:18 PM

Michael Taylor (knee) is expected to be sidelined for a few days.

The feeling is that Taylor didn't cause any major damage when he collided with the outfield wall Thursday, but he has a bad bruise on his right knee. He could wind up missing the entire weekend series against the Marlins. Matt den Dekker should handle center field for a few days.

Justin Morneau (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A New Britain on Friday.

Morneau hasn't played since mid-May due to a concussion and a cervical neck sprain, but he's been slowly but surely progressing of late and is ready to test things out in game action. He'll play in three contests for New Britain before being re-evaluated. It's not clear whether the Rockies have a target date for Morneau's return.

MLB.com's William Ladson reports that Denard Span will have season-ending surgery on his left hip on Tuesday.

Span has just never been fully healthy all season. He had his first core muscle surgery last December, came back too soon and then required a second procedure in March. He then made a quick recovery from that to return in mid-April, but he then dealt with back and more recently hip issues for the bulk of the campaign. The type of operation he'll have Tuesday isn't known yet, but hopefully it will finally nip is health issues in the bud. Span's Nationals career could be over, as he's slated for free agency this winter. The Nats will go with Michael Taylor in center field for the rest of the season, assuming his knee injury is minor as expected.

Mariners optioned C Mike Zunino to Triple-A Tacoma.

The demotion is probably long overdue. Zunino has simply been lost at the plate all season, sporting a hideous .174/.230/.300 batting line over 112 games. John Hicks has replaced him on the roster and will share the catching duties with Jesus Sucre for now.
Aug 28 - 1:18 PM

Danny Salazar has been scratched from Friday's scheduled start against the Angels due to illness.

The Indians presumably will hope that he'll be ready to go at some point over the weekend. Trevor Bauer will start Friday in Salazar's place and will be on regular rest.
Aug 28 - 1:09 PM

Jon Jay (wrist) could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

He'll report to Memphis on Friday but might not begin playing in games just yet. Jay began taking batting practice earlier this week and hasn't had any issues with his nagging left wrist injury. He should be on track to be activated from the disabled list within the next two weeks.

The Mariners have fired general manager Jack Zduriencik.

Zduriencik has seemingly been on the hot seat for a few years now and it's not a surprise to see him get the boot in the midst of the Mariners' disappointing season. Assistant GM Jeff Kingston will handle the GM duties for the remainder of the season, although it's unclear whether he might be a candidate to get the full-time gig. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal says that the club has already reached out to former Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd.
Aug 28 - 11:33 AM

Adam Jones is listed as day-to-day after X-rays on his wrist came back negative on Thursday.

Jones was removed from Thursday's game against the Royals after crashing into the outfield wall. While he is experiencing symptoms of whiplash, there were no fractures in his wrist and he isn't experiencing any concussion symptoms. He should return to the O's lineup at some point over the weekend.
