Nick Markakis (neck) said Tuesday that he's likely to miss a few more days.

Markakis hasn't done any baseball activities since he woke up Sunday with a stiff neck. His symptoms have improved, but he will continue to receive treatment for now. "The good thing is I wasn’t getting any numbness or any pain down my arm or leg or anything so we’ve kind of ruled out anything with a disc probably," said Markakis. "That’s good. Today’s better than yesterday so that’s all we can hope for and we move on from there. I’ll get my treatment and hopefully I’ll be out there in a couple days."

Drew Hutchison delivered a strong start in Saturday’s victory over the Yankees, allowing just two runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Hutchison racked up seven strikeouts while issuing just three walks in the game. The only blemish on his day was a two-run homer off the bat of Brian McCann in the fourth inning. The rookie right-hander now owns a 4.44 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 109/41 K/BB ratio over his 119 2/3 innings on the year. He’ll look to carry over this strong start when he takes on the Astros in Houston on Thursday.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that 28 teams and up to 100 baseball officials attended the workout of Rusney Castillo in Miami on Saturday.

It's unclear which two teams decided not to attend, but there is obviously an overwhelming amount of interest in the 27-year-old Cuban defector. He's expected to play in the outfield at the major league level, and could reach the big leagues late this season if he lands in the right situation.

Giants acquired RHP Jake Peavy and cash considerations from the Red Sox for LHP Edwin Escobar and RHP Heath Hembree.

Peavy is scheduled to make his Giants debut on Sunday when he toes the slab against the Dodgers. While he struggled through his first 20 starts on the season (4.72 ERA, 1.43 WHIP), he should certainly benefit from a return to the National League West and is worth a look if available in mixed leagues.

Edwin Encarnacion (quad) suffered a minor setback in his recovery on Friday while swinging a bat in Florida.

The Blue Jays will ease off of him for the next couple of days before he resumes full baseball activities. He had been expected to be activated from the disabled list next week, though that timetable is likely to be pushed back with this setback.

Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Red Sox will receive Heath Hembree and Edwin Escobar from the Giants in exchange for Jake Peavy.

The 25-year-old Hembree has served as the closer at Triple-A Fresno for the past three seasons, and owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 46/13 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings on the year. Escobar, was ranked as Baseball America's 56th best prospect heading into the 2014 season, but has struggled with a 5.11 ERA over 20 starts in the PCL.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Giants have agreed to a deal to acquire Jake Peavy from the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are rumored to be receiving a pair of minor league pitchers back in the trade. The veteran right-hander is in the midst of a disappointing season, posting a 1-9 record, 4.72 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 100/46 K/BB ratio through his first 20 starts. A return to the National League should be a nice boost to his fantasy value.

Yasiel Puig went 4-for-5 and became the first player in four years to triple three times in a game Friday as the Dodgers topped the Giants 8-0.

The Twins' Denard Span was the last player with three triples in a game, doing so against the Tigers on June 29, 2010. The next to last was Rafael Furcal in 2002. Before that, it was Lance Johnson in 1995. So, obviously, it's a very rare feat. In fact, no Dodger had done it since at least 1901. Puig now has eight triples this year, leaving him two behind teammate Dee Gordon (who also had one tonight) for the major league lead.

Josh Rutledge went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in an 8-1 win over the Pirates on Friday.

Rutledge got the Rockies on the board with an RBI double in the third inning and later had a bases-clearing double in a seven-run seventh. The 25-year-old has hit .308 with three home runs and 16 RBI over 53 games this season and should get regular playing time over the next two weeks with Troy Tulowitzki on the disabled list. He should be a useful fantasy shortstop in the meantime.

Billy Butler hit a pinch-hit go-ahead two-run homer in a 6-4 win over the Indians on Friday night.

The clutch blast came with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was just his fourth home run of the season. While the 28-year-old played the role of hero for the Royals on this night, he's been one of the game's most disappointing players with a weak .266/.320/.353 batting line.
Jul 26 - 12:38 AM

Carlos Santana clubbed two homers and knocked in three runs in a loss to the Royals on Friday.

Santana popped a solo blast in the fourth inning and added a two-run shot for good measure in the sixth. With three multi-hit games in his last four, his batting average is now up to .222 for the year, his high-water mark since early April. He's also up to 17 home runs and 45 RBI on the year.
Jul 26 - 12:35 AM

Lucas Duda delivered a go-ahead two-run homer in a 3-2 win over the Brewers on Friday.

The Mets entered the top of the ninth inning down 3-0, but David Wright knocked in the first run with an RBI single and Duda followed with a long blast to right-center field. The 28-year-old has now gone deep three times in his last four games and is up to 17 home runs and 53 RBI on the year. It looks like the Mets made the right choice between him and Ike Davis.
