Albert Pujols (knee) will make his spring debut Tuesday as the designated hitter.

Well, that's a pleasant surprise. Pujols had offseason knee surgery and wasn't expected to appear in a game until a little later this month, but he's apparently feeling good.

Yu Darvish tossed 1 2/3 scoreless frames in his first spring start Sunday versus the Royals.

Darvish yielded just one hit, and it was a two-out bunt single in the first inning by Raul Mondesi. He walked two but struck out two in the steady afternoon outing. The 30-year-old right-hander should be ready to return to fantasy-ace status in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery. He registered a 3.41 ERA, 1.116 WHIP, and 132/31 K/BB ratio over 100 1/3 innings (17 starts) for the Rangers in 2016.

Rich Hill went two hitless innings in his first Cactus League start Sunday versus the Brewers.

Hill issued a leadoff walk to Jonathan Villar in the bottom of the first inning, but he promptly picked off the Milwaukee speedster and didn't allow a baserunner the rest of the way. Hill struck out two -- back-to-back in the second inning -- during his sharp spring debut. The veteran left-hander re-upped with the Dodgers in early December on a three-year, $48 million free agent deal.
Feb 26 - 4:28 PM

Danny Salazar struck out three batters over two scoreless innings in his first start of the spring Sunday versus the Cubs.

Salazar walked the first batter he faced, Jason Heyward, and then gave up a single to Eloy Jimenez to lead off the second, but the 27-year-old right-hander was otherwise sharp in his Cactus League debut. He'll be trying to reach 200 innings for the first time in his professional career this season with the defending American League champions.

Todd Frazier (oblique) will resume hitting on Monday.

Frazier tweaked his left oblique a week ago, but it's considered a minor strain and the third baseman is evidently feeling much improved. He's also felt some lingering effects of a sprained finger that he suffered late last season, but that doesn't appear to be an issue anymore. Frazier should be a top-10 fantasy third baseman in 2017 if he can stay healthy.
Feb 26 - 1:37 PM

Garrett Richards (elbow) threw his first live batting practice session of the spring on Sunday.

Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports that Richards "seemed to be fine" and "probably" will be ready to pitch in a Cactus League game by next weekend. The right-hander opted for rest and stem cell treatment for a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament and his rehab has come along well to this point. Richards will obviously be a huge health risk heading into 2017, but he should shoot up draft boards this spring if he looks like his pre-injury self.
Feb 26 - 1:18 PM

Jason Kipnis will be shut down from throwing for 4-5 days after being diagnosed with a strained right rotator cuff.

The Indians have had Kipnis on what they were calling a shoulder strengthening/maintenance program this spring, but they had been saying it was just a precaution. Now we know that the second baseman is actually injured. Kipnis was given a cortisone shot in hopes that it will speed up the healing process. It's obviously unclear at this point as to when Kipnis might be game-ready.
Feb 26 - 11:08 AM

Josh Hamilton is flying to Houston and is likely to undergo another surgery on his left knee Monday.

The procedure is expected to "only" be of the arthroscopic variety, but it will be his fourth on the knee over the last year. The Rangers will continue to give Hamilton a chance to rehab and compete for a roster spot, but he just can't get his body to cooperate anymore. There's a pretty good chance the former MVP has played his last major league game.
Feb 26 - 10:48 AM

Zach Britton will play catch Sunday after telling reporters that the discomfort in his oblique is gone.

Britton tweaked his oblique early on in spring training but is apparently over it now. The reliever noted Sunday that he wouldn't have appeared in a game yet at this point even if he was healthy, so it's not really a setback as long as he can avoid aggravating the ailment. Britton will be one of the top closers to come off the board in fantasy leagues.

Mookie Betts went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs to lead the Red Sox over the Twins 8-7 on Saturday.

One of the hits was a double. The superstar hit third in the lineup and played right field. He put up a monster fantasy line of .318/.363/.534 with 31 home runs, 122 runs scored, 113 RBI and 26 stolen bases last year. He is worth a first-round draft pick in all fantasy formats.
Feb 25 - 6:22 PM

Christian Yelich hit a two-run bomb and drew a walk as the Marlins beat the Cardinals 8-7 on Saturday.

He took Cardinals' closer Seung Hwan Oh deep with one runner aboard in the third inning. Yelich just turned 25 years old and has already been a strong major league hitter for four years. He broke out with 21 home runs last year to go with 98 RBI and a .298 batting average.
Feb 25 - 5:46 PM

Justin Verlander gave up a hit and a walk but did not allow a run in his two innings versus the Astros on Saturday.

He struck out a pair in his first start of the spring. After a down season in 2015, he bounced back last year with a 3.04 ERA and 16-9 record. His 10.04 strikeouts per nine innings was the second-best mark of his career. He doesn't throw as hard as he used to but he remains one of the best pitchers in the American League.
