There is no timetable for Franklin Morales' (lower back) return to mound workouts.

Morales has been sidelined since Saturday with soreness in his lower back. The Red Sox are calling him day-to-day.

Jonathan Lucroy is not in the Brewers' starting lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Rev up those trade rumor engines. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reported on Wednesday night that talks involving Jonathan Lucroy had begun to intensify, and it sounds like he could be dealt at some point Thursday. There is believed to be interest from the Rangers, Indians, Astros, Mets, and Red Sox. Martin Maldonado will start at catcher for Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon versus Arizona.

Jose Reyes (intercostal) is doubtful for Friday.

Reyes was diagnosed with a Grade 1 intercostal strain on Tuesday afternoon and is still dealing with some discomfort. Mets manager Terry Collins said he's not considering a disabled list stint at this point because the club has a string of games in American League parks next week. That would allow Reyes to DH, but it does seem like an odd strategy considering the veteran infielder suffered the injury on a swing.

Yoenis Cespedes is out of the Mets' lineup Thursday because he had a flareup with his quad.

Cespedes missed a chunk of time earlier this month with a quad strain, and now it's rearing its ugly head again. Consider him day-to-day for now. Alejandro De Aza is in left field and Juan Lagares is in center field on Thursday afternoon against the Rockies.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Royals are trying to package Ian Kennedy in a Wade Davis trade, with the Dodgers "a strong match."

Los Angeles badly wants Davis, as reported earlier by Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, and the club has deep enough pockets to comfortably take on what remains on the ill-advised five-year, $70 million free agent contract that Kennedy received this winter from Kansas City. Kennedy has been a big disappointment in his first year with the Royals, currently holding a 4.41 ERA through 20 starts. He could eat some innings for a contender, but that's probably about it.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are "trying hard" for Andrew Cashner.

Baltimore badly needs rotation help -- Ubaldo Jimenez and his 7.38 ERA are starting Thursday against the Twins -- and Cashner is almost certain to be dealt somewhere by the August 1 trade deadline. Rosenthal says the O's are not necessarily the front-runner for the 29-year-old right-hander, with the Rangers, Marlins, and Giants also lurking. Cashner, an impending free agent, owns a 4.76 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and 67/30 K/BB ratio in 79 1/3 innings this season.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Dodgers are showing interest in Royals closer Wade Davis.

Los Angeles reportedly made a run at Aroldis Chapman this week before he landed with the Cubs. Davis hasn't been as dominant this year as he has been in years past, but the 30-year-old right-hander still ranks among the top relievers in baseball with his 1.60 ERA in 33 2/3 innings. He holds a $10 million team option for 2017, which is a relative bargain. It's not clear what a trade for an elite late-inning arm would do for Kenley Jansen's status as the Dodgers' closer. He has 30 saves this season and a 1.41 ERA in 44 2/3 innings.

Jason Hammel led the Cubs to an 8-1 victory over the White Sox on Wednesday by tossing seven innings of one run baseball for his 10th win.

The only run he allowed came on a home run by opposing pitcher Anthony Ranaudo. Hammel struck out seven batters, walked two and gave up just five hits. His record improves to 10-5 with a 3.23 ERA in 114 1/3 innings. Hammel draws two starts next week. The first will be at home versus the Marlins on Monday, then he will travel to Oakland for an interleague game using the designated hitter on Sunday.

Khris Davis hit two home runs and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored on Wednesday.

Davis hit a solo homer in the first inning off Yu Darvish, then smoked a two-run blast off Matt Bush in the eighth. He added a double for the third hit. He sports an unusual .256/.294/.514 slash line due to a very low walk rate and a high strikeout rate. But it was the home runs his owners were after when they drafted Khris Davis. He has 25 longballs with 48 runs and 67 RBI.

Freddie Freeman had an absolute monster day at the plate on Wednesday, going 4-for-4 with a homer and five RBI to lead the Braves in a 9-7 victory over the Twins in Minnesota.

Freeman came through with run-scoring singles in each of the first two innings, then clubbed a two-run homer in the fourth to increase the Braves' early advantage to 7-0. He added an RBI double in the sixth to provide a valuable insurance run. Freeman also drew a walk in the contest, reaching base safely in all five of his plate appearances, and swiped his fourth base of the season. With the four-hit attack, he raised his season slash to .280/.363/.517 to go with 18 homers and 41 RBI.

Yasmany Tomas had a monster day at the dish on Wednesday, blasting a pair of home runs and plating five as the Diamondbacks routed the Brewers 8-1 at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

Tomas capped off a five-run uprising off of Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson in the first inning with a three-run shot. He inflicted more damage in the fifth inning, with a two-run homer to chase Nelson from the ballgame. Tomas finished the night 2-for-5, raising his season slash to .262/.305/.477 to go with 17 homers and 42 RBI in what has been a breakout season offensively.

Mets manager Terry Collins said that Jeurys Familia will not be available for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Familia has pitched in back-to-back games. Wednesday's was an outright disaster, as he entered in the ninth with the Mets holding a 4-3 lead over the Cardinals only to surrender a game-tying RBI double to Yadier Molina and a go-ahead RBI double to Kolten Wong. The Mets lost 5-4. Thursday's forced off-day should just be considered a breather for Familia, who had not blown a save opportunity prior to Wednesday's meltdown. Addison Reed will handle any save chance that might come the team's way on Thursday.
