Albert Pujols (knee) was hitless in three at-bats during his Cactus League debut Tuesday.

Pujols wasn't supposed to make his spring debut until later this month following offseason knee surgery, but he felt well enough to DH on Tuesday afternoon against the visiting Reds. The three-time MVP should be a fantasy stud again in 2013.

Adam Dunn acknowledged after the Athletics' loss to the Royals in the Wild Card Game on Tuesday that he still plans to retire.

"That's probably it," said Dunn, who waited 14 seasons and 2,001 career games to get to the playoffs, the longest such streak of any active player. The 34-year-old didn't make an appearance in Tuesday's Wild Card Game, but he has no regrets. "Not at all," said Dunn. "Let's not make a bigger deal out of it. I love Bob [Melvin]. He's one of the best managers I've ever played for. He's as good as there is out there. You wish the best for a guy like that. He's awesome. Awesome." If this is the end for Dunn, he'll finish with 462 career home runs, tying him for 35th on the all-time list.
Oct 1 - 8:51 AM

Salvador Perez made his one hit Tuesday count, as he delivered a two-out, walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning of the Wild Card Game win over the Athletics.

Perez was having an awful game up to that point, going 0-for-5 with a couple strikeouts, including one in the eighth with the tying run on third base and one out. He finally came through in extras, though, pulling a ball down the third-base line just past Josh Donaldson to score Christian Colon from second base. The Royals will face the Angels in the ALDS.
Oct 1 - 1:14 AM

Brandon Moss had a two-run homer and a three-run shot in Tuesday's loss to the Royals.

Moss did all he could, getting the A's on board with a two-run blast in the first inning before putting them ahead with a three-run dinger in the sixth. He also drew a walk in one of his six plate appearances. It wasn't enough in the back-and-forth game, though, as the Royals ultimately prevailed in extras. Moss had just two longballs since the beginning of August before smacking a pair Tuesday.
Oct 1 - 1:03 AM

Coco Crisp left Tuesday's game against the Royals with a right hamstring injury.

Crisp tweaked his hamstring on a swing in the top of the 11th. He took the field for the bottom of the frame but decided he couldn't go. It's an ailment that could conceivably keep him out a while if the A's advance, but more should be known about his status after the game.
Oct 1 - 12:14 AM

Geovany Soto left Tuesday's Wild Card Game against the Royals with a left thumb injury.

Soto injured the thumb while making a tag at home plate in the bottom of the first inning. He remained in the game for a bit longer but eventually had to exit. The A's should update his status after the game, but it's possible he won't be able to play in the ALDS if the A's advance. Derek Norris replaced him behind the plate.

Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com reports that it "appears quite likely" the Dodgers would start Clayton Kershaw on short rest in a potential NLDS Game 4.

Manager Don Mattingly side-stepped the question Tuesday, saying "we wouldn’t even think about it until we see what would happen in Game 1 or what kind of situation we’ll be in." However, Mattingly used Kershaw on short rest in last year's NLDS and the left-hander pitched well. Also, Kershaw threw a simulated game Sunday, four days after his final regular season start, a move Saxon thinks is "seemingly intended to get his body used to short rest." Using Kershaw in Game 4 would mean he and Zack Greinke would start four times if the NLDS went five games. The club is hoping Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) is ready for Game 3. If Ryu is ready and Kershaw goes on short rest, Dan Haren would be ticketed for long relief.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Michael Morse (oblique) is "doubtful" to be on the club's National League Wild Card roster.

There had been a possibility of him being on there as a potential pinch-hitter, but even that is looking unlikely. Morse has been battling a strained left oblique all month and it's looking like he might not be much of a factor this postseason even if the Giants advance.
Sep 30 - 6:44 PM

Josh Hamilton (shoulder, chest, rib cage) said Tuesday that he is ready to go for the ALDS.

Hamilton has taken batting practice, thrown long toss, and run the bases without issue each of the last two days in Anaheim. He's played in just one game for the Angels since September 4 due to shoulder, chest, and rib cage injuries, but look for him to be in the starting lineup on Thursday.
Sep 30 - 5:01 PM

Matt Shoemaker (oblique) said Tuesday that he has "no doubt at all" he'll be able to pitch in the ALDS.

Shoemaker threw another successful bullpen session on Tuesday afternoon, taking breaks to simulate a multi-inning outing. The right-hander hasn't pitched in a game since September 15 due to an oblique strain, but he seems likely to be the Angels' Game 3 starter against the winner of Tuesday's American League Wild Card Game.
Sep 30 - 4:52 PM

Clay Buchholz underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair the meniscus in his right knee.

It wasn't a major procedure and Buchholz is expected to have a fairly normal offseason. He'll be looking to bounce back in 2015 after posting a rough 5.34 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 170 1/3 innings this year. Buchholz registered a 1.74 ERA across 108 1/3 innings in 2013.
Sep 30 - 4:27 PM

Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) will throw around 45 pitches in a simulated game on Wednesday.

Ryu felt fine after his first full-effort bullpen session on Sunday and is ready to take the next step in his recovery from left shoulder irritation. The hope is that he'll be able to pitch at some point during the Dodgers' NLDS matchup with the Cardinals. He has been on the shelf since September 13.
