The left oblique tightness that forced Garrett Jones from Thursday's game isn't considered serious.

"It's really nothing serious," said Jones, who originally felt the tightness Wednesday. "I just didn't want it to escalate into anything more serious right now." While it seems like a minor ailment right now, oblique injuries can linger, so the Pirates figure to take it slowly with him.

Ian Desmond clobbered a game-winning home run in the 10th inning on Friday, propelling the Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the Twins in Minnesota.

The gargantuan shot off of Fernando Abad was his 15th long ball of the season. Desmond also singled and doubled in the contest, finishing the night 3-for-5. He has been one of the best hitters in the American League this season, slashing .323/.376/.535 with 15 homers, 52 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

Jaime Garcia spun eight innings of one-run ball in Friday’s win over the Brewers.

It was quite a night for Garcia. His only mistake was a solo homer by Chris Carter in the second inning. Garcia walked four, but gave up just four hits and struck out six batters. He induced 15 swinging strikes and 16 ground balls in the victory. He also drove in a run with a single. This was his longest outing since his one-hit shutout against this same Brewers team on April 14. Garcia will bring a 3.84 ERA into a start against the Pirates next week at home.

Victor Martinez belted a pair of three-run homers on Friday, powering the Tigers in a 10-2 rout over the Rays in Tampa Bay.

Martinez started the game slowly, as he was 0-for-3 heading into the seventh inning, before he greeted Danny Farquhar with a three-run bomb to increase the Tigers' advantage to 10-7. He wasn't finished though, adding another three-run shot in the ninth to cap off the monster day. He has been a monster at the dish this year, slashing .324/.369/.543 with 16 homers and 49 RBI.

Michael Fulmer returned to the Tigers starting rotation with authority on Friday, racking up 10 strikeouts over seven shutout innings in a victory over the Rays.

The rookie right-hander allowed just two singles and a walk in the ballgame. He has been nothing short of outstanding for the Tigers this season, registering an 8-2 record, 2.17 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 70/25 K/BB ratio over 70 2/3 innings. He'll look to further his case for American League Rookie of the Year honors when he squares off against the red-hot Indians in Cleveland on Wednesday.

Odubel Herrera had all of his tools on full display in Friday's 4-3 victory over the Royals, going 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a stolen base.

Hererra started the game with a bang, blasting a leadoff home run off of Ian Kennedy. He later singled, swiped a base and scored his second run of the contest. The Phillies' leadoff man is having a terrific season at the dish, slashing .306/.396/.439 with nine homers, 30 RBI and 12 stolen bases.

Denard Span was scratched from the Giants starting lineup on Friday due to a stiff neck.

Gregor Blanco will replace him and bat leadoff against Shelby Miller and the Diamondbacks. Consider Span day-to-day.

Padres manager Andy Green said Friday that Brandon Maurer will get the "first crack" at the ninth inning after dealing Fernando Rodney away on Thursday.

He isn't locked in as the official closer yet, but will have a chance to stake his claim to the role with a few successful conversions. Many had assumed that Ryan Buchter, who had functioned as the primary setup man for Rodney, would get the first shot at the ninth inning, but it looks as though Green is more comfortable keeping the southpaw in the eighth inning. Maurer is worthy of an add in all formats until he proves otherwise.
Jul 1 - 7:56 PM

Carlos Santana blasted a solo home run in the top half of the 19th inning on Friday, powering the Indians to a 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays, their franchise-record 14th consecutive victory.

Santana's game-changing blast came off of Jays' infielder Darwin Barney, who was the second infielder to take the mound for the Blue Jays in the contest. Santana also doubled and walked in the marathon afternoon, finishing the day 2-for-8 and he scored both of the team's runs.
Jul 1 - 7:46 PM

Buster Posey is not in the Giants starting lineup for Friday's matchup against Shelby Miller and the Diamondbacks.

It seems to be just a routine day of rest for the hard-hitting backstop, which is disappointing for fantasy owners who had hoped for fireworks against Shelby Miller. Trevor Brown will start behind the dish and bat eighth for the Giants.
Jul 1 - 6:29 PM

Yu Darvish (shoulder) will make a minor league rehab start with Double-A Frisco on Monday.

Darvish is expected to throw 45 pitches in that outing against Northwest ARkansas. He'll need a couple of starts before he's ready to rejoin the Rangers rotation, which is expected to come after the All-Star break.
Jul 1 - 6:14 PM

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Friday that Zack Greinke is doubtful to make his next start on Tuesday.

Hale did say there was a possibility he could rejoin the rotation next weekend, missing just one start. Greinke was forced to leave Tuesday's outing due to tightness in his left oblique. The Diamondbacks will obviously take every possible precaution not to risk further aggravation. Zack Godley seems the most likely candidate to start in his place on Tuesday.
