Cardinals signed 1B/OF Allen Craig to a five-year, $31 million contract extension with a club option for 2018.

Craig wasn't slated for arbitration until next winter, so he'll be locked up through at least his first year of free agency. There's always risk in locking a player up long-term when you have the ability to go year-to-year, but these kinds of contracts usually turn out to be team-friendly as long as the player stays healthy. Craig batted .307/.354/.522 with 22 homers and 92 RBI last season over 119 games. "Wrench" is a career .300/.348/.515 hitter over 238 contests.

Rockies placed OF Carlos Gonzalez on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 19, with a right hamstring strain.

The Rockies held off placing CarGo on the DL after he tweaked his hamstring last Wednesday, but he didn't recover as quickly as hoped. With Gerardo Parra serving a suspension, Ryan McMahon, Mike Tauchman and Noel Cuevas will be in line for playing time over the next few days.

Cardinals placed RHP Adam Wainwright on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with right elbow inflammation.

It's unclear when Wainwright first felt discomfort, but he suggested on Twitter that he doesn't expect to be out long. Wainwright did have elbow surgery last fall but had pitched well over his last two outings. Jack Flaherty will replace him in the Cards' rotation.

Rangers activated OF Delino DeShields from the 10-day disabled list.

DeShields is back in his customary center field and leadoff spots Sunday against Erasmo Ramirez and the Mariners. He was sidelined for the previous three and a half weeks following surgery for a fractured hamate bone in his left hand.

Mark Trumbo (quad) will resume a rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie on Monday.

Trumbo played one rehab game earlier this month before the Orioles backed off when it was clear he wasn't ready. He's feeling much better now, though. Trumbo will play for Bowie through Wednesday before taking a day off and then moving up to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday if all goes well. He'll need a good number of rehab at-bats before being activated since he missed a chunk of spring training.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said after Saturday's game that Anthony Rendon (toe) was still "pretty sore" after a workout earlier in the day and the team is "going to have to re-evaluate again and see where he’s at."

Rendon was available to pinch-hit Saturday, but only "if we had a chance to tie or go ahead," Martinez said. The third baseman has already been sidelined for eight days, as it's clear the Nats should have just immediately put him on the disabled list. However, they can only backdate a DL move three days, so if they did it now Rendon wouldn't be eligible to return until April 29. His status remains up in the air.

Tommy Pham (groin) remained out of the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.

Pham has now sat out two of the last three games with a tight groin. The Cards will hope he's ready to play Tuesday following Monday's off day. Harrison Bader is in center field Sunday.
Apr 22 - 11:21 AM

Byron Buxton (migraines) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Wednesday.

Buxton will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Fort Myers on Sunday, serving as their designated hitter. He's slated to play center field for them on Monday and Tuesday before then rejoining the Twins assuming all goes well. Buxton has missed the last week of action because of migraines.
Apr 22 - 10:57 AM

Yoan Moncada (hamstring) is in the White Sox' lineup Sunday.

Moncada was lifted from Saturday's game as a precaution with some left hamstring tightness, but obviously the ailment isn't seen as a big deal. The young second baseman is sporting a .209/.321/.403 batting line through his first 17 games this season.
Apr 22 - 10:53 AM

Todd Frazier is not in the Mets' lineup Sunday because of a sore toe as a result of being spiked Saturday.

Manager Mickey Callaway noted that he was looking to give Frazier his first day off of the season, anyway, so this ailment doesn't appear to be a big deal. Frazier should be back in there Tuesday after Monday's off day. Wilmer Flores is at third base Sunday.
Apr 22 - 10:43 AM

Yankees recalled INF Gleyber Torres from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Torres is starting at second base and batting eighth against Jaime Garcia and the Blue Jays in his major league debut Sunday. The top prospect was batting .347/.393/.510 with one home run, 11 RBI and one stolen base for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at the time of his promotion. The Yankees plan for him to be their everyday second baseman, but Torres could also see a little time at third while Brandon Drury (migraines) is out. Torres is just 21 so it remains to be seen whether he's ready to produce at the big league level, but he needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.
Apr 22 - 10:13 AM

Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed just two hits and three walks over seven scoreless innings while striking out eight batters Saturday against the Nationals.

Ryu has posted three consecutive quality starts, posting a 3-0 record with a 0.95 ERA, six hits, four walks and 25 strikeouts over 19 innings during the impressive span. The southpaw will look to continue his winning ways in his next scheduled start in a favorable matchup against Derek Holland and the Giants at AT&T Park on Friday.
