Phillies optioned INF Cesar Hernandez to Triple-A Lehigh Valley; reassigned RHP Justin Friend to minor league camp.

Hernandez had a nice spring with the big club, hitting .313 (5-for-16) with one double and one RBI in 11 games. The 22-year-old batted .291/.329/.404 with two homers and 21 steals between Double- and Triple-A last season and could find his way to the majors before the end of 2013.

Jose Fernandez allowed three runs (none earned) in seven innings, taking home the no decision as the Marlins lost to the Nationals on Wednesday.

Fernandez allowed four hits, walked none, and struck out 10. The only blemish came on Jayson Werth's game-tying three-run home run in the sixth inning, which was set up by catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia's throwing error. As all three runs were unearned, Fernandez lowered his ERA to 2.66. He now has 33 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings. Fernandez will face the Braves in his next start.

Manny Machado (knee) ran the bases for the first time Wednesday with no problems.

Machado had been running sprints in the days prior, but Wednesday was the first day he ran the bases in his recovery from October knee surgery. He'll continue running the bases for the rest of the week. No indication was given as to when he'll be cleared to take part in extended spring training games, but it shouldn't be too long now.

Julio Teheran ran roughshod over the Phillies' offense in Wednesday's start, shutting them out in a complete game effort to earn the win.

Teheran allowed three hits (all singles), walked none, and struck out four. The Phillies made weak contact against him all night long, only twice enjoying the sight of a runner in scoring position. Teheran has allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his first four starts of the season, picking up where he left off in 2013. He'll face the Marlins next.

Cliff Lee was dominant in Wednesday's start against the Braves, but earned a loss despite allowing one run in a complete game on Wednesday.

Lee's only blemish came courtesy of an Evan Gattis solo home run in the fourth inning that barely escaped the fence in the left field corner. Overall, Lee struck out 13, allowed 11 hits, and walked one. Over his first four starts, he has exemplified the vagaries of BABIP, but has also been around the strike zone a little too much, some might argue. Regardless, he now sports a 28:2 K:BB ratio.

Juan Lagares told the Newark Star-Ledger that his pulled right hamstring is "not that bad."

"I feel better now," Lagares said. Lagares received the results of his MRI Wednesday and met with the Mets' trainer to talk about treatment plans. He said he believes the injury is a one-to-two week injury, suggesting that he could be back after the 15 days are up. The Mets, however, are going to be cautious with their center fielder.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Kole Calhoun will miss 4-6 weeks with a bad ligament sprain in his ankle.

It's a tough blow to the Angels and fantasy owners, as Calhoun was really turning it on before the injury. Calhoun had seven hits in his last 15 at-bats prior to rolling his ankle late in Wednesday's game. The Angels will rely on Collin Cowgill and Brennan Boesch in right field for the time being, but the team may take a look at external options now that Calhoun will be out for a significant period.

Chase Headley is not in the Padres' lineup Wednesday due to a right biceps strain.

It's being called a mild strain, and the third baseman is day-to-day. It's unclear when he sustained the injury. First baseman Yonder Alonso was taking ground balls at third during batting practice before Wednesday's game, so he may see some time at the hot corner in a pinch if Headley misses any more time.

Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said Taijuan Walker will be shut down for two weeks with a right shoulder impingement.

Walker was scratched from his scheduled rehab start Tuesday due to the setback. It was supposed to be the final rehab start before he rejoined the big club, but that's gone by the wayside. Even when he does resume throwing, he'll need to build his arm strength back up before being recalled. At this point, his return date is up in the air.
Apr 16 - 6:28 PM

Bryce Harper was scratched from the Nationals' lineup Wednesday due to left quad tightness.

The Nationals say he's been dealing with tightness in the quad since Friday. It was bad enough that he was removed from Monday's game, so it's not an situation that should be taken too lightly. At this point he seems to be day-to-day, but the team may give him more rest over the next few days to get his legs right.
Apr 16 - 6:24 PM

Doug Fister (lat) headed to extended spring training in Viera, Florida on Wednesday.

Fister will begin working on a five-day throwing schedule, beginning with two simulated innings on Thursday. He'll then throw three simulated innings five days after, and a rehab assignment could follow that workout. Fister should join the Nationals around early May and will be a front-line fantasy starter once he is activated.
Apr 16 - 5:18 PM

Craig Kimbrel (shoulder) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Wednesday and declared himself "ready."

According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, manager Fredi Gonzalez was "noncommittal" about using Kimbrel on Wednesday night because of the cold weather in Philadelphia. Kimbrel has been unavailable the past two games with mild shoulder soreness.
