Diamondbacks returned RHP Starling Peralta to Cubs.

The Rule 5 pick impressed early on in D'Backs camp, but it became apparent over four Cactus League appearances that he wasn't ready, as he allowed seven runs and walked three over three frames. He'll likely enter the Cubs' High-A rotation.

Josh Willingham (knee) is back in the Twins' starting lineup on Tuesday evening versus the White Sox.

Willingham got a cortisone shot in his troublesome left knee on Sunday. He'll try to play through the pain.

Anthony Rizzo is not in the Cubs' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the rival Cardinals.

It's the first day off of the season for the young first baseman, who has 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 68 games this season. Cody Ransom will get the nod in his place against Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright.

Matt Harvey took a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up three runs in seven-plus innings Tuesday in a victory over the Braves.

Jason Heyward's infield single ended the no-hit bid; Harvey actually had a play on him, but he didn't think he could make the tag after grabbing the ball towards the first base line and decided to flip to first, which happened to be vacant. Harvey got through that inning scoreless anyway, but the eighth was a different story. He loaded the bases with no outs and then got pulled. After he left, all three runners came around to score. It took some of the shine of a dominant effort in which Harvey struck out 13. Still, he did pick up his first win since May 17 and his second since April 19.

Brandon Morrow (forearm) suffered a physical setback Monday in his rehab start at High-A Dunedin.

Morrow will have his forearm reexamined this week. He did not look sharp in the outing, allowing three runs in two innings, and can now be considered out indefinitely.

Rafael Betancourt (groin) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday and reported feeling fine.

Betancourt will face live hitters on Friday and could then be cleared for a minor league rehab assignment. The veteran right-hander will be back in the Rockies' bullpen by the end of this month if everything continues to go smoothly. Rex Brothers is filling in at closer and doing a fine job.

Kevin Youkilis has a herniated disc in his back and will undergo surgery to repair it on Thursday.

He is expected to need about 10-12 weeks of rest and rehab, which puts his season in jeopardy. It's another brutal blow to the Yankees, who have been without third baseman Alex Rodriguez (hip) all year. Youkilis was batting .219/.305/.343 with two home runs and eight RBI in 28 games as A-Rod's fill-in at the hot corner.
Jun 18 - 4:13 PM

Denard Span (foot) is back in the Nationals' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Phillies.

Span sat out Monday after fouling yet another ball off his right foot on Sunday. He's had some bad luck this year.

Yankees placed 1B Mark Teixeira on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 16, with right wrist inflammation.

An MRI over the weekend didn't reveal any new damage in the wrist, but he was given a cortisone shot and will now get some extended rest. The Yankees are hopeful that he'll be able to play through the condition for the entire season, but the possibility of surgery still looms. Lyle Overbay will fill in at first base once again.
Jun 18 - 3:28 PM

Mets agreed to terms with first-round pick 1B Dominic Smith.

Jim Callis of Baseball America reports that he'll get $2.6 million, which is a little under the recommended draft bonus. Smith, a big left-handed first baseman out Serra High School in California, was selected 11th overall in this month's First-Year Player Draft.

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said on SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio on Tuesday that Matt Kemp (hamstring) is currently running at "75 percent without pain."

Kemp is making progress, but there's no timetable for him to begin a rehab assignment. The Dodgers have already ruled out his return until at least June 24, but it sounds like it will come later than that.
Jun 18 - 2:13 PM

Phillies activated C Carlos Ruiz from the 15-day disabled list.

Ruiz was originally slated to return on Friday, but apparently two rehab games was enough to convince the Phillies that he's ready. Out since May 19 due to a right hamstring strain, the veteran backstop returns to a .235/.286/.275 batting line in 16 games this season.
