Hanley Ramirez is expected to undergo an MRI exam on his right thumb Wednesday in Arizona.

Ramirez jammed his thumb in the third inning of Tuesday's WBC final against Puerto Rico. He stayed in the game initially, even delivering a single in his next at-bat, but Dominican Republic manager Tony Pena eventually pulled him for precautionary reasons. Ramirez isn't concerned and felt well enough to stay in the ballgame, so the Dodgers just want to make sure. Dee Gordon would likely open the season as the starting shortstop if it turns out to be something significant.

Trevor Plouffe (knee) is out of the Twins' starting lineup again on Monday afternoon.

The third baseman has some minor knee soreness, but Twins manager Paul Molitor said Plouffe should be available to come off the bench. Eduardo Nunez is starting at the hot corner and batting leadoff versus the A's.
May 30 - 1:28 PM

Phil Hughes has been moved to the bullpen.

His rough start Saturday against the Mariners was apparently the final straw. Hughes gave up four earned runs on nine hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings versus Seattle. Kyle Gibson (shoulder) will come off the disabled list Thursday and start against the Rays.
May 30 - 1:22 PM

Evan Gattis is not in the Astros' starting lineup on Monday afternoon against the Diamondbacks.

The game is being played at Chase Field under National League rules, so Gattis can't DH. Tyler White is starting at catcher and Jason Castro will be behind the plate.
May 30 - 1:16 PM

Stephen Piscotty has been scratched from the Cardinals' lineup Monday due to food poisoning.

He was supposed to start in right field and bat cleanup in the series opener against Brewers right-hander Junior Guerra. Brandon Moss is now starting in right and batting fifth, with Matt Adams at cleanup.
May 30 - 1:06 PM

Nolan Arenado is getting the day off Monday.

Daniel Descalso will start at third base and bat seventh in the afternoon game against Reds right-hander Dan Straily. Arenado went 0-for-3 on Sunday versus the Giants but still managed to collect his 39th RBI.
May 30 - 12:45 PM

Sergio Romo (elbow) won't be activated from the disabled list before Thursday.

Romo experienced some fatigue after making back-to-back rehab appearances last week at Triple-A Sacramento. But it doesn't sound like a major setback, and Romo is actually slated to pitch this Monday and Tuesday at High-A San Jose before possibly returning to the Giants on Thursday. The setup man has been on the disabled list since April 14 with a flexor muscle strain in his right arm.
May 30 - 12:02 PM

Yovani Gallardo (shoulder) is expected to make at least two minor league rehab starts.

His first rehab start is scheduled for Thursday at High-A Frederick, and he'll probably go four innings in that one. Gallardo has been on the disabled list since April 23 with right shoulder and biceps tendinitis. He threw a successful simulated game Saturday and made it through another bullpen session Monday without issue. The right-hander had a 7.00 ERA through his first 18 innings (four starts) this season with the O's.
May 30 - 11:42 AM

Ryan Braun (neck) remains out of the Brewers' starting lineup Monday against the Cardinals.

Braun has now missed three straight games with stiffness and soreness in his neck. He's also been battling back and wrist issues. Alex Presley is starting in left field and batting sixth on Monday afternoon with the Cardinals throwing right-hander Carlos Martinez.
May 30 - 11:33 AM

Austin Jackson (turf toe) is out of the White Sox starting lineup Monday against the Mets.

J.B. Shuck will start in center field and bat fifth in the Memorial Day game versus Mets right-hander Matt Harvey. White Sox manager Robin Ventura said he's hoping A-Jax will be able to avoid the disabled list. He'll get treatment for the turf toe on Monday.
May 30 - 11:21 AM

Buster Posey is out Monday versus the Braves.

It's a routine day of maintenance for Posey. Trevor Brown is getting the start at catcher and batting eighth in the Memorial Day game at Turner Field in Atlanta.
May 30 - 11:02 AM

David Ortiz (foot) is back in the Red Sox starting lineup Monday versus the Orioles.

Ortiz was scratched Sunday after getting hit in the foot by a pitch on Saturday, but X-rays turned up negative and he was feeling much better when he arrived at Camden Yards in Baltimore on Monday morning. The veteran slugger is starting at DH and batting cleanup versus Orioles right-hander Tyler Wilson.
