Dodgers prospect Yasiel Puig got the wind knocked out of him when he dove for a ball during Friday's Cactus League game.

It was easy to think the worst after Puig had to leave the ballgame, but he managed to avoid a serious injury. The young phenom hopes to return to action as soon as Saturday. That sound you hear is Dodgers fans letting out a sigh of relief.

Mike Puma of the New York Post was told by a high-ranking team official that prospect right-hander Zack Wheeler is expected make 2-3 more starts with Triple-A Las Vegas before joining the Mets.

That would place his major league debut somewhere around June 6 or 11, which would leave the Mets safe from any concerns about eventual Super Two status. Wheeler returned to action Wednesday after a recent collarbone issue and allowed three runs in five innings. The 22-year-old has a 3.99 ERA and 49/20 K/BB ratio in 48 1/3 innings across eight starts this season. He's worth stashing in deeper mixed leagues at this point.

Orioles purchased the contract of RHP Kevin Gausman from Double-A Bowie.

Gausman will make his major league debut Thursday night against the Orioles. The 22-year-old has only made 13 starts in the minors, but owns an impressive 3.23 ERA and 62/6 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings. With his ability to miss bats and pound the strike zone, he's well worth owning in mixed leagues.

Salvador Perez (hip) is back in Thursday's lineup against the Angels.

Perez suffered a deep right hip bruise Monday when he slid into a barrier while attempting to catch a foul ball, but fortunately an MRI ruled out any structural damage. It shouldn't be an issue moving forward.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) could begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Trenton.

Teixeira has participated in simulated games this week without incident and took batting practice Thursday in Tampa. The 33-year-old was originally aiming to return from the disabled by May 31, but he may need a few extra days to shake the rust. Still, he's making fine progress.
May 23 - 4:32 PM

Royals optioned RHP Kelvin Herrera to Triple-A Omaha.

It wasn't too long ago that Herrera was threatening Greg Holland for the closer role, but he has struggled to keep the ball in the ballpark this season, surrendering eight home runs in just 20 1/3 innings. He'll attempt to straighten things out in the minors.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that Kevin Youkilis (back) is "maybe a week" away from being activated.

Youkilis, out since April 27 with a lumbar spine strain, took six at-bats Wednesday in a simulated game. It's not clear if he'll go out on a brief rehab assignment, but he's getting close.

Austin Jackson (hamstring) is unlikely be activated from the disabled list when he's eligible Monday.

Jackson landed on the disabled list earlier this month with a strained left hamstring, but we haven't heard much about his progress. That's probably because there's little to update, as Chris Iott of MLive.com hears that he isn't currently doing any physical activity. Fantasy owners will have to hope that changes real soon.
May 23 - 4:08 PM

Michael Pineda (shoulder) threw five innings Thursday in a start at extended spring training.

Pineda's fastball sat near 93 mph all afternoon and he reported no issues with his surgically-repaired shoulder. The right-hander is expected to make one more start at the Yankees' spring complex before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. He should be stashed right now in leagues with big roster allotments.
May 23 - 3:34 PM

Shane Victorino (hamstring) is not in the Red Sox starting lineup Thursday night against the Indians.

Victorino has missed the last three games with left hamstring tightness, but he is still expected to avoid the disabled list. The hope is he'll be ready on Friday.

A source told Andy Martino of the New York Daily News that the Mets could demote Ike Davis after this weekend's three-game series against the Braves.

The Mets have been answering questions about a Davis demotion for weeks and may have finally reached the breaking point. The 26-year-old first baseman went 0-for-2 on Wednesday and is batting just .147 with a .482 OPS and 49 strikeouts through his first 42 games this season. He has one hit in his last 38 plate appearances.
May 23 - 2:45 PM

An MRI taken Wednesday on Adam Eaton's sore left elbow showed no structural damage, but he won't throw a baseball for 2-3 weeks.

Eaton suffered a sprained UCL in March and has been dealing with renewed discomfort. The outfielder will spend the next 2-3 weeks doing strength and conditioning work before attempting to resume a throwing program. He can be ruled out until at least late June. It's a disappointing setback for one of 2013's biggest fantasy darlings.
