Christian Friedrich was knocked around a bit in Friday's loss to the Giants, surrendering four runs on five hits in just three innings of work.

The young left-hander has battled a variety of back and neck injuries this spring, and has really struggled through his first two starts. Most of the damage in this one came via the long ball, with Hunter Pence and Brandon Belt taking him deep. This poor outing may have closed the door on his chances to crack the Opening Day rotation.

Billy Hamilton exited Wednesday's game against the Cubs in the bottom of the first inning after he was hit in the head by a fly ball.

Adam Duvall and Hamilton were both going after a fly ball off the bat of Anthony Rizzo and the ball ultimately hit Hamilton in the head/face. He was on the ground for a couple of minutes before eventually walking off the field through the bullpen. The Reds will surely send him for tests to rule out a concussion. Tyler Holt replaced him in center field.

Yankees signed first-round pick OF Blake Rutherford.

Rutherford, a high school outfielder, was selected No. 18 overall in this month's draft. Jim Callis of MLB.com hears that he signed for $3,282,000, which is well above the slot value of $2,441,600 for the pick. The 19-year-old was among the best bats in this year's class and could prove to be a steal for New York. He's slated to report to the team's GCL affiliate to begin his pro career.

Steven Moya (knee) is back in Wednesday's lineup against the Marlins.

Moya missed three straight games with right knee soreness. He's batting seventh in his return against right-hander Tom Koehler.

Oswaldo Arcia was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Red Sox due to illness.

It's probably safe to call him day-to-day. Nick Franklin will take his place in the lineup and play left field. Brandon Guyer will slide over to right field.

Brandon Crawford went 3-for-5 with five RBI in Tuesday's 13-11 loss to the A's.

Crawford finished a home run shy of the cycle. As for the runs he drove in, the shortstop notched a two-run double in the third and a three-run triple in the sixth. For the season, Crawford is slashing .268/.342/.415 with six homers and 49 RBI over 265 at-bats.

Wil Myers went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, a steal and three walks in Tuesday's 11-7 loss to the Orioles.

Myers launched his three-run homer in the seventh inning. He has been nothing short of phenomenal in the month of June, swatting 11 homers and driving 31 runs this month alone. For the season as a whole, he is slashing .284/.343/.530 with 18 homers, 53 RBI and 11 steals across 296 at-bats.

Carlos Correa was a monster in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Angels, finishing 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and four total RBI.

Correa jumped the Astros out to a 3-0 lead when he smacked a three-run homer off Tim Lincecum in the first inning. He would drive in his fourth run of the game with an RBI ground out in the seventh inning. The 21-year-old phenom has been scalding the ball of late and has picked up five doubles in his last 10 games. In that same space, he has driven in 14 runs. For the season, Correa is slashing .265/.363/.474 with 13 homers, 47 RBI and eight steals across 283 at-bats.

Julio Urias earned his first major league win Tuesday, limiting the Brewers to two runs over six innings as the Dodgers held on to win 6-5.

Urias gave up just two hits but walked six while striking out six as well. The 19-year-old has gotten progressively better over his seven starts, having allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last five outings. He's now got a 4.09 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 41/15 K/BB ratio over 33 innings in the bigs. He'll try to make it a winning streak Sunday against the Rockies.

Lucas Giolito had to leave his major league debut early after a rain delay but held the Mets scoreless over four innings Tuesday in a 5-0 victory.

It's a shame, as Giolito had allowed just one hit (a bloop single) and had been efficient through four frames, throwing only 45 pitches. He issued two walks and recorded one strikeout, sitting around 95 mph while featuring a hammer curveball. The Nationals didn't promise Giolito anything beyond tonight's outing, but he's surely going to get the ball this weekend again against the Reds.
Jun 29 - 12:28 AM

Bryce Harper doubled and ripped a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Mets.

Harper lined a Jerry Blevins offering into the right-field bullpen with one out in the fifth inning. It was his 16th longball of the season but just his third in June. The reigning National League MVP is sporting a disappointing .258 average but has made up for it and then some with a .403 on-base percentage.
Jun 29 - 12:21 AM

Jon Lester had to settle for a no-decision but was excellent Tuesday, holding the Reds to one run over 7 1/3 innings in a 7-2 extra-innings victory.

Lester held the Reds off the scoreboard until Billy Hamilton slugged a solo home run to lead off the eighth inning. He recorded only four strikeouts but wound up allowing just three hits and one walk on the night. Lester lost out on a win when Hector Rondon blew a save, but it was another stellar outing in what has been an excellent season. He'll bring a 2.03 ERA into New York against the Mets on Sunday.
