Anthony Swarzak (ribs) will pitch an inning in a minor league game Monday.

Swarzak was placed on the DL Friday, but since he won't be used in Grapefruit League games, he'll be eligible for activation on April 6. It sounds like he'll have a shot to be ready at that time.

David Wright (back) is close to beginning a minor league rehab assignment.

Wright will move his rehab to the team's minor league facility in St. Lucie when the Mets begin their six-game road trip next week. The seven-time All-Star has been sidelined by spinal stenosis since April 14. Daniel Murphy has been plugging away at third base in Wright's absence.

Chris Tillman (ankle) is not expected to make his scheduled start Monday against the Athletics.

His sprained ankle is feeling better but he's not ready to pitch yet. The Orioles are optimistic Tillman won't require a trip to the disabled list. It's unclear who would start in his place, though Tyler Wilson could be a possibility. Tillman hurled a gem in his last outing, scattering four hits over 8 2/3 shutout innings Wednesday in a win against the Braves.

Travis Shaw had a career-day at the plate on Saturday, powering the Red Sox to an 11-7 victory over the Rays.

Shaw was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket before the game and was penciled into the lineup at third base. He had been 3-for-15 on the season without any extra-base hits. He started his day with a leadoff double in the second inning and would come around to cross home plate. He then belted a solo homer off Matt Moore in the third inning. Shaw singled and came around to score in the fifth inning, then walked and scored another run in the sixth. To top it all off, he slugged a two-run homer off Kirby Yates in the eighth, finishing the afternoon 4-for-4 plus a walk with a double, two homers, three RBI and five runs scored. It's certainly an afternoon he'll never forget.

Ben Zobrist clubbed a pair of solo home runs on Saturday, leading the Royals to a 7-6 victory over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Zobrist got the scoring started with a solo shot off Jays starter Mark Buehrle in the first inning. He then took Mark Lowe deep in the eighth inning, tying the game at 5-5 and igniting a rally that would lead the Royals to victory. He also doubled in the ballgame, finishing the afternoon 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

C.J. Wilson will undergo surgery to repair a left elbow impingement and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2015 season.

Wilson alerted the Angels to the news prior to the trade deadline. He has been pitching with bone spurs in his elbow since April, but his range of motion has diminished recently which necessitated the surgery. He should be fully healthy and ready to go for the start of the 2015 season.

Rockies placed OF Corey Dickerson on the 15-day disabled list with non-displaced fractures of two ribs.

An MRI exam revealed Friday that Dickerson had sustained non-displaced fractures of two ribs on his right side while diving for a line drive during Thursday's contest against the Cardinals. It's the third time that the outfielder has been forced to the disabled list this season. There is no clear timetable for his return at the moment.

Blue Jays designated INF/OF Danny Valencia for assignment.

With all of the recent acquisitions that the Blue Jays have made, they were forced to make a few tough decisions on their roster and it appears that Valencia is the odd-man out. The lefty-masher was hitting .296/.331/.506 overall with seven homers and 29 RBI in 162 at-bats. He should attract interest from plenty of teams looking to upgrade their bench.

Taijuan Walker pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 as the Mariners beat the Twins 6-1 on Friday.

The lone hit was Miguel Sano's solo homer in the fourth inning. It's Walker's first career complete-game victory (he had one other complete game, but it was an eight-inning loss to the Blue Jays last season). He might be prone to bouts with inconsistency, but he should still be worth riding in mixed leagues the rest of the way.

Mark Teixeira had a monster night Friday against the Rangers, going 3-for-6 with two home runs, six RBI, and two walks.

Batting right-handed, Teixeira took Carlos Rodon deep for a grand slam in the second inning before connecting for a two-run shot against Matt Albers from the left side in the fourth. It was the 14th time in his career that he homered from both sides of the plate in the same game, setting a new major league record. The veteran slugger has back-to-back multi-homer games and is now batting .269/.375/.585 with 28 home runs and 73 RBI on the year. It's been a remarkable resurgence.

Wilmer Flores clubbed a walk-off homer in the 12th inning to give the Mets a 2-1 win over the Nationals on Friday.

You couldn't write it up any better. Flores, who cried on the field Wednesday night after believing that he had been traded to the Brewers, drove in both runs for the Mets on Friday night and was the most popular person at Citi Field. After hitting an RBI single in the fourth inning, he took Felipe Rivero deep to lead off the bottom of the 12th to end it. It was a feel-good moment for Flores and for the Mets, who are two games back of the Nationals in the NL East.
Aug 1 - 12:05 AM

Welington Castillo belted a game-winning solo home run in the 10th inning on Friday, powering the Diamondbacks to a 6-4 victory over the Astros.

Castillo victimized Pat Neshek for the go-ahead blast, which was immediately followed by a solo shot off the bat of teammate Jake Lamb. Castillo finished the night 3-for-5 and scored three runs. He has been a tremendous addition to the Diamondbacks, hitting .293 (34-for-116) with nine homers and 20 RBI in just 36 games.
