Mets sent INF Brandon Hicks outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Hicks was competing for a utility job, but batted just .128/.358/.303 this spring. Omar Quintanilla will serve as Mets' backup infielder this season.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, there may be meniscus tears in Wilson Ramos' right knee.

Ramos has already been diagnosed with a torn ACL, but the extent of the damage could range well beyond that. The impending free agent catcher came down hard on his right knee Monday after jumping to catch a throw at home plate and will undergo major surgery at some point in the near future. This is obviously going to crush his open-market value despite a breakout 2016. Ramos, 29, batted .307/.354/.496 with 22 home runs and 80 RBI over 131 games for the NL East-champion Nationals.

Seung Hwan Oh (groin) said he expects to be available out of the Cardinals' bullpen Thursday.

Oh was lifted from an appearance Wednesday after experiencing renewed discomfort in his groin while trying to field a ball in the top of the ninth inning, but this his crunch time for the Wild Card-hunting Redbirds. "It’s nothing worse than what I dealt with before," said Oh with the help of translator Eugene Koo. "It’s totally fine, but we’ve still got a few more games to play so [manager Mike Matheny] told me to focus on tomorrow." The right-hander from South Korea has registered a brilliant 1.85 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 100 strikeouts over his first 77 2/3 major league innings.

Hunter Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBI as the Padres edged the Dodgers 6-5 on Wednesday.

Renfroe should have been up on July 21, not September 21, but at least he's used his very limited major league time to make a huge first impression; he's homered four times in his first five starts, and his two-run shot Wednesday sailed over the Western Metal Supply Co. building at Petco Park. That is the first time a player had done that in a live game. This all bodes well for Renfroe's chances of being penciled in as the Padres' everyday right fielder to open the 2017 season.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he expects Mike Trout (shoulder) to play in Friday's series opener against the Astros.

Trout left Wednesday night's series finale with the Athletics after taking a John Axford fastball off his left shoulder blade in the bottom of the eighth inning. He was in visible pain as he made his way into the dugout with a trainer, but the star center fielder escaped with nothing more than a bad bruise. Trout was 1-for-4 with a run scored Wednesday before departing. He's batting .318/.441/.556 in 156 games this season.

Mark Teixeira hit a walkoff grand slam Wednesday off Joe Kelly as the Yankees beat the Red Sox 5-3.

It didn't stop the Red Sox from clinching the AL East, but it surely felt good for Teixeira, who will wrap up his career in four days unless the Yankees pull off a miracle and advance. With homers in consecutive games, Teixeira has upped his OPS to .660, his highest mark since early May.

Miguel Cabrera hammered a three-run homer in the final frame as the Tigers beat the Indians 6-3 in a rainy five inning game on Wednesday.

The umpires called the game as soon as it became a legal contest after five innings. Cabrera's blast in the bottom of the fifth was his 36th of the season. He stroked a single earlier in the game and finished 2-for-3. He is batting .313 with 105 RBI in yet another MVP-caliber season.

Carlos Gomez went 3-for-4 and delivered a clutch three-run home run to lead the Rangers over the Brewers 8-5 on Wednesday.

His blast in the eighth inning broke open a tie game against his former team. Gomez has played much better since joining the Rangers a month ago. He's now up to eight home runs and 24 RBI in 31 games with Texas after managing just five homers and 29 RBI in 85 games with the Astros. Gomez also has 18 stolen bases overall.

CC Sabathia said that he hopes to continue pitching after the 2017 season.

"I know I want to pitch after next year, but I haven't thought about where or what. Hopefully it will be here. We'll see," Sabathia said. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2017 season. He will be 37 years old at that juncture. Despite some rocky moments, the veteran southpaw has done a nice job transitioning from a thrower into a pitcher as his stuff has diminished. In 172 1/3 innings this season, Sabathia holds a 4.02 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 144/63 K/BB ratio.
Sep 28 - 11:35 PM

Anthony DeSclafani worked six innings of one-run ball Wednesday in a win over the Cardinals.

The only run St. Louis managed the entire night came on a doubleplay groundout in the bottom of the fifth inning by pinch-hitter Matt Adams, scoring Aledmys Diaz from third base. DeSclafani struck out three and walked two, yielding six total hits. He finishes the 2016 regular season with a promising 3.28 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 105/30 K/BB ratio in 123 1/3 innings.

Francisco Liriano turned in a gem on Wednesday, striking out 10 batters while firing 6 1/3 shutout frames, but he had to settle for a no-decision against the Orioles.

He left the game with a 2-0 lead but watched as his closer coughed up the lead and the game in the ninth inning. Perhaps most impressively for him, he issued only one free pass on the night. This is the guy who is second in the major leagues in walks allowed this year. After putting up a 5.46 ERA with the Pirates he has registered a 2.92 ERA since being dumped on the Blue Jays. Overall he is 8-13 with a 4.69 ERA in 29 starts and two relief appearances. He has 168 strikeouts and 85 walks in 163 innings.
Sep 28 - 11:04 PM

John Jaso hit for the cycle in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Cubs.

Jaso singled to lead off the third inning, socked a three-run home run in the fourth, notched an RBI double in the fifth and polished off his cycle with an RBI triple in the seventh. He finished the game 4-for-4 with five RBI at the dish. It was the first-ever cycle at PNC Park. For the season as a whole, Jaso is hitting .267/.348/.407 with seven homers and 40 RBI across 371 at-bats.
