Alex Rios (back) was scratched from Monday's lineup.

Rios is still being bothered by lower back stiffness, but the White Sox are optimistic he'll be ready for Opening Day. The 32-year-old outfielder batted .304/.334/.516 with 25 homers, 91 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 2012.

Mookie Betts had a night to remember Tuesday, slugging three home runs and driving in five runs in a victory over the Orioles.

Betts deposited Kevin Gausman's second pitch of the game into the left-field seats and he got Gausman again with a three-run shot just over the left-field wall in the second inning. After a lineout in the fourth, Betts victimized Dylan Bundy with an opposite-field shot in the seventh. Betts had a shot at a four-homer night but grounded out to second base in the ninth. The 23-year-old has actually been a tad disappointing this season from an average (.283) and on-base percentage (.325) perspective, but he's provided a ton of category juice with 12 homers, 40 RBI, 49 runs scored and eight stolen bases.

Brad Boxberger was removed from an appearance Tuesday with an apparent injury.

Boxberger just returned from core muscle surgery and appeared to be stretching his side several times in his short, rough outing Tuesday night against the Royals. It was actually his 2016 debut. The right-hander gave up a single to Eric Hosmer and a two-run homer to Kendrys Morales before leaving with a Tampa Bay trainer. Alex Colome's hold on the ninth-inning job just got much tighter.
May 31 - 10:43 PM

Jake Peavy turned in a surprising gem Tuesday, holding the Braves to one hit over seven scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory.

Peavy entered the game with a 7.26 ERA over his first 10 starts of the season, so this was unexpected even in a juicy matchup. The veteran right-hander permitted a leadoff single to Tyler Flowers in the fifth inning and that was it, as he faced the minimum through seven frames. He had thrown only 77 pitches, but manager Bruce Bochy had no choice but to pinch-hit for Peavy as the offense rallied in the eighth. Peavy will have a much tougher matchup on Sunday in St. Louis.
May 31 - 10:07 PM

Jurickson Profar belted his first major league home run since September of 2013 in Tuesday's victory over the Indians.

The longball was a solo shot off of Corey Kluber in the fifth inning. Profar also singled and scored a run. The infielder is sporting a .348/.348/.565 batting line five games since taking over at second base for the suspended Rougned Odor. The Rangers are reportedly considering keeping Profar on the major league roster after Odor returns, although it remains to be seen how they'd plan to get him playing time.

Dodgers recalled LHP Julio Urias from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Urias is being throwing back into the Los Angeles rotation with Alex Wood (triceps) suddenly landing on the disabled list Tuesday. The young southpaw gave up three runs on five hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings last Friday in his major league debut against the Mets, but he has terrific stuff and it looks like his second MLB start will come this weekend against the punchless Braves. There's no official schedule yet.
May 31 - 9:12 PM

Dodgers placed LHP Alex Wood on the 15-day disabled list with left posterior elbow soreness.

Wood began experiencing the discomfort after his five-inning start Monday against the Cubs. He'll be examined and likely run through some tests before the Dodgers can come up with a proper recovery timetable. Julio Urias is going to take the vacant rotation spot.
May 31 - 9:08 PM

Seth Smith cranked two home runs in an epic beatdown of his former team the Padres on Tuesday.

Smith took James Shields deep for a three-run homer in the third inning, then added a solo shot off Padres reliever Luis Perdomo in the fifth. He wrapped up his day going 2-for-4 with a walk plus four RBI and three runs scored. The 33-year-old outfielder shows no signs of aging. He is slashing .269/.392/.438 with six longballs, 26 runs scored, and 22 RBI.
May 31 - 8:37 PM

Yasiel Puig was scratched from the Dodgers' lineup on Tuesday because of a sore left hamstring.

Trayce Thompson will start in right field and Carl Crawford will start in left field versus Cubs ace Jake Arrieta. Puig was limited to 79 games in 2015 largely because of hamstring issues, so this will be a situation to monitor over the next couple days. He's slashing just .239/.286/.364 over his first 196 plate appearances in 2016.
May 31 - 8:15 PM

Brandon Phillips was scratched from the Reds' lineup Tuesday due to a sore left foot.

The veteran second baseman is considered day-to-day. Jordan Pacheco will fill in at Coors Field.
May 31 - 7:56 PM

George Springer blasted his 12th longball of the season on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.

Springer’s monster game saw him go 3-for-4 with the home run, four RBI, and two runs scored. He was also hit by a pitch but escaped unharmed. The Astros slugger now sports a strong .288/.376/.509 slash line on the season.
May 31 - 7:25 PM

Dodgers designated INF/OF Alex Guerrero for assignment.

Guerrero's 20-day minor league rehab assignment came to an end Sunday and the Dodgers don't currently have a spot for the 29-year-old on their major league roster, so they decided to go ahead and cut him loose. Guerrero, signed to a $28 million deal out of Cuba in 2013, was 9-for-66 (.136) in 16 games this season between High-A Rancho Cucamonga, Double-A Tulsa, and Triple-A Oklahoma City. He'll probably be officially released within the next 10 days, after he clears waivers.
