Brewers placed LHP Miguel de los Santos on the restricted list.

de los Santos remains in the Dominican Republic while dealing with a visa issue, so the Brewers made the move to free up a 40-man roster spot. The left-hander won't be ready to pitch until at least July, anyway, as he works his way back from shoulder surgery.

Miguel Cabrera fell a triple shy of the cycle and drove in five runs in Tuesday's win over the Indians.

Miggy doubled in two runs in the first inning, launched a three-run homer in the second, was intentionally walked in the fourth and singled in the seventh. He was pulled after the seventh in the Tigers' blowout win, potentially costing him a shot at an unlikely triple and cycle. Cabrera's 35 home runs is easily his highest total since his MVP season in 2013.

Aaron Sanchez struck out 10 batters while spinning six innings of one-run ball in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over the Orioles.

It was an intriguing pitching matchup with Sanchez and Kevin Gausman going up against two good offenses, but Sanchez easily bested his counterpart in this one. The righty walked three but permitted only five hits to go along with his 10 punchouts. He's posted quality starts in four of his last five tries and has yielded just one run in each of his last two outings, as Sanchez doesn't appear to be tiring down the stretch. He'll face the Red Sox Sunday to finish out the regular season.

Josh Donaldson clubbed a two-run homer and reached base four times in Tuesday's victory over the Orioles.

The Blue Jays didn't waste any time in getting to Kevin Gausman as Ezequiel Carrera walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning and Donaldson followed with his 37th dinger of the campaign. The third baseman also added a single and a couple walks, as he reached base in all of his trips to the plate. Donaldson probably isn't going to win back-to-back American League MVP awards, but he's had another remarkable season.
Sep 27 - 10:22 PM

Max Scherzer struck out 10 batters and held the Diamondbacks to two runs over six frames to earn his 19th win of the season in a 4-2 victory.

Scherzer served up a home run to Jean Segura to lead off the game and then yielded an RBI double to Welington Castillo in the third. He settled in after that, though, and the Nationals' offense finally went to work in the sixth inning with four runs. Scherzer hasn't lost since August 9. The right-hander will have one final tune-up on Sunday before starting Game 1 of the NLDS versus the Dodgers on October 7.

Corey Kluber has been diagnosed with a mild quadriceps strain and is expected to miss 7-10 days.

Kluber left his start Monday against the Tigers with what was originally described as a groin injury. He won't take another turn in the rotation before the end of the regular season, but his final start this weekend was probably going to be an abbreviated one anyway. This diagnosis is mostly positive news for the American League Central-champion Indians. Kluber should be close to fine for the ALDS. Game 1 is nine days away.
Sep 27 - 10:06 PM

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Tuesday that Clayton Kershaw will start Game 1 of the NLDS against the Nationals.

Rich Hill will start Game 2 and Kenta Maeda will take Game 3. Rookie left-hander Julio Urias is a possibility for Game 4. Kershaw has registered a tremendous 0.86 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 21 innings (four starts) since returning from a herniated disc on September 9. He went seven scoreless innings against the Rockies in his latest turn.
Sep 27 - 8:17 PM

Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) is only expected to miss 2-3 days.

Nunez was sent for an MRI on Monday after injuring his right hamstring on a slide in Sunday's series finale against the Padres. The exam apparently showed nothing serious. Conor Gillaspie is starting at third base for the Giants on Tuesday night against Colorado.
Sep 27 - 7:59 PM

Johnny Cueto (groin) has been cleared to start Thursday at home against the Rockies.

Cueto suffered a mild groin strain in his September 20 start at Dodger Stadium, but he made it through a bullpen session Tuesday without issue and was given the go-ahead to pitch Thursday by San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy. It could be a very important game for the Wild Card-hunting Giants.

Tyson Ross could need surgery to repair his injured right shoulder.

Ross was limited to just one start in 2016 -- back on April 4 -- due to ongoing shoulder discomfort. He's undergone multiple tests and received several different medical opinions, but nothing has worked. This has become a nightmare for the 29-year-old right-hander, who is eligible for salary arbitration for the final time leading into 2017. He had a 3.07 ERA and 526 strikeouts in 516 2/3 innings between 2013-2015.
Sep 27 - 7:53 PM

Albert Pujols is out Tuesday against the Athletics due to renewed foot discomfort.

And his status for the Angels' final five games is to-be-determined, per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Pujols has battled plantar fasciitis since his peak years with the Cardinals and it will flare up on him from time to time. Mike Trout is at DH and C.J. Cron is at first base on Tuesday night versus A's right-hander Daniel Mengden.
Sep 27 - 7:48 PM

Rich Hill (blister) threw a successful 35-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

Hill was skipped from his scheduled Sunday start against the Rockies due to lingering concerns about the blister on his left hand, but he is on track to start Friday's series opener against the Giants and the veteran southpaw should be in the Dodgers' rotation for the NLDS. The decision to skip him was more of a precautionary move. Hill, 36, owns a brilliant 2.05 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 125/32 K/BB ratio in 105 1/3 innings this season between Oakland and Los Angeles.
