Rick Porcello has won the fifth spot in the Tigers' starting rotation.

He won the spot over left-hander Drew Smyly, who will pitch out of the bullpen. Porcello has a solid 3.00 ERA and 21/0 K/BB ratio over 24 innings of work this spring. While he has been the subject of trade talk for months, the Tigers will hang on to him for now.

Johnny Cueto (forearm) worked three scoreless innings Tuesday with Triple-A Sacramento.

Cueto allowed three hits but issued zero walks and of most importance was that he looked healthy. The right-hander landed on the disabled list July 15 due to multiple blisters on his throwing hand and he was removed from a rehab start July 31 at High-A San Jose after suffering a flexor tendon strain. If everything goes smoothly from here, Cueto could be ready to return to the Giants' rotation around the second week of September.

X-rays turned up negative on Paul Blackburn's right arm.

Blackburn got drilled by a Trey Mancini comebacker in the fourth inning of his start Tuesday night in Baltimore and left the field in serious pain, but it sounds like he could take his next turn. "We dodged a bullet," manager Bob Melvin said after the game. The 23-year-old right-hander had worked four scoreless frames against the Orioles, improving his ERA to 3.22.

Aaron Judge's strikeout streak finally ended at 37 games after he singled and walked three times Tuesday against the Tigers.

Judge was pulled from the rout in the seventh, costing him two more at-bats in which he could have extended his streak. The nice game eked his OPS back up to 1.011. An 0-for-4 tonight would have put him below 1.000 for the first time since April 27.

Ryon Healy slugged a solo home run and a two-run shot in Tuesday's win over the Orioles.

Healy took Ubaldo Jimenez deep with an opposite-field solo shot in the first inning and homered off the righty again in the fifth with a two-run blast to left. He also drew a walk on the night. Healy has now put together a nine-game hit streak, although these were his first two dingers during that stretch.

Jason Kipnis was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Red Sox with hamstring tightness.

It's an injury he's been trying to play through for a while. Kipnis has hit well lately for the first-place Tribe, but it's looking like he could need another extended break. Yandy Diaz took over in the DH spot on Tuesday night. Jose Ramirez got the start at second base.

Hunter Pence was scratched from the Giants' lineup Tuesday due to a tight left hamstring.

It's a day-to-day thing for now, but a DL stint can't be ruled out given Pence's recent history with hamstring injuries. Gorkys Hernandez will start in right field and bat eighth Tuesday versus Brewers right-hander Matt Garza. Kelby Tomlinson is hitting second.

Carlos Correa (thumb) is on track to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Corpus Christi.

Correa took on-field batting practice Tuesday without issue and he'll go through a full pregame workout on Wednesday before likely meeting up with the Astros' Double-A team the following day. The young shortstop expects to be ready to return to Houston's active roster after 20-30 at-bats in the minors. He's been on the disabled list since mid-July because of a torn ligament in his left thumb.

Giancarlo Stanton clubbed his 46th home run of the season as the Marlins defeated the Phillies 12-8 in the first half of Monday's split doubleheader.

Stanton roped an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to put Miami up 3-2 and then contributed a solo blast to the Marlins' six-run outburst in the top of the seventh. He finished the early game 2-for-5 and will bat second for the Fish in the nightcap.
Aug 22 - 7:34 PM

Dodgers placed 1B Cody Bellinger on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 20, with a sprained right ankle.

Bellinger suffered the ankle injury on Saturday in Detroit and the first-place Dodgers have wisely decided to give the 22-year-old rising star an extended breather. Bellinger, the heavy favorite for NL Rookie of the Year, is sitting on a .968 OPS and 34 home runs through his first 101 major league games. He should be ready for activation when first eligible at the end of August.
Aug 22 - 6:47 PM

Rangers placed INF/OF Joey Gallo on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Gallo suffered a concussion and a nasal fracture when he collided with teammate Matt Bush on Sunday afternoon. It sounds like the Rangers believe he will be ready for activation when first eligible on August 29. Phil Gosselin has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding roster move.
Aug 22 - 6:37 PM

Danny Salazar felt stiffness in his right elbow while throwing a side session Tuesday.

That explains why the Indians placed him on the disabled list Tuesday afternoon. Salazar is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday night and may be in danger of missing the remainder of the 2017 regular season. He had been pitching well since returning to the Indians' rotation in late July, but the 27-year-old right-hander got lit up for six earned runs on 12 hits Sunday in a loss to the Royals.
