Erasmo Ramirez will begin the season with Triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners have seemingly settled on Blake Beavan and Brandon Maurer for the final two spots in their rotation, but they would rather have Ramirez prepare as a starter in the minors rather than pitch out of the bullpen in the majors. We liked Ramirez as a sleeper this spring, so he could have some sneaky value assuming he eventually convinces the Mariners that he is worthy of a rotation spot.

Matt Holliday hit a go-ahead solo homer in the ninth inning to lead the Cardinals to a 7-6 victory over the Brewers on Friday.

It finished off a huge night for Holliday, who reached base in four out of his five plate appearances. He also had a single, two doubles, and a walk. The home run was his first since June 16 and just his sixth on the season. The 34-year-old is currently on pace to hit fewer than 20 home runs for the first time since 2005.

David Price was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday due to illness.

The Rays are hoping that he'll feel well enough to take the hill on Sunday instead. Jake Odorizzi is expected to get the ball on Saturday, on what would be regular rest for him.
Jul 11 - 11:32 PM

Garrett Richards was brilliant yet again Friday, striking out eight batters over seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Rangers.

Richards gave up five hits and walked a pair in the victory. He now owns a 1.27 ERA over his last eight starts and hasn't lost since May 30. While the 26-year-old wasn't selected to the All-Star team, he has pitched like one during the first half. He'll go into the break at 11-2 with a 2.55 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 123 1/3 innings.
Jul 11 - 11:32 PM

Anibal Sanchez picked up his sixth victory of the season on Friday, limiting the Royals to just one run on eight hits over seven innings.

Sanchez punched out three on the night and didn’t walk a batter. The only damage against him on the night came in the first inning, where Salvador Perez cashed in Eric Hosmer with an RBI single. He’ll head into the All-Star break with a terrific 3.04 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 70/25 K/BB ratio over his first 94 2/3 innings.

Nick Hundley came through with an RBI single off Adam Warren in the 10th inning on Friday, leading the Orioles to a walk-off 3-2 victory.

The veteran backstop finished the night 2-for-4 with that critical RBI. With the two-hit effort, he's now hitting .264/.282/.384 with 13 RBI in 125 at-bats on the season. If he continues to swing the bat well, he could be in line for additional playing time behind the plate for the Orioles.
Jul 11 - 10:27 PM

Jimmy Rollins homered twice and knocked in three runs in a 6-2 win over the Nationals on Friday night.

Rollins connected for a two-run shot off Jordan Zimmermann in the third inning and later added a solo blast against Craig Stammen in the seventh. It was his first multi-hit homer game since August 1, 2012, also against the Nationals. While the 35-year-old has seen his batting average drop off in a big way since the start of the season, he's now up to 11 home runs on the year. He hit just six of them in 160 games last year.
Jul 11 - 10:19 PM

Bryce Harper hit a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Phillies.

It was his second home run of the season and his first since coming off the disabled list. It was a long wait for Harper, as his first was way back on April 9. He ended up going three months and 102 plate appearances between home runs. Harper has really struggled since returning, but we expect much better as he shakes the rust and gets further removed from surgery.
Jul 11 - 10:18 PM

Nationals manager Matt Williams said after Friday's game that Jordan Zimmermann was removed with a right bicep cramp.

The right-hander will undergo a precautionary MRI on Saturday to rule out any structural damage. For the moment, it's encouraging that the injury doesn't have anything to do with his elbow or shoulder. Unfortunately, he will now be forced to miss the All-Star Game for the second consecutive season due to injury.
Jul 11 - 10:12 PM

David Wright went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs in a win over the Marlins on Friday.

It was the 19th four-hit game of his career. Wright has hit safely in each of his last five games, so it looks like the time off for his shoulder was just what the doctored ordered. His overall numbers still aren't on par with what we've seen from him in the past, so fantasy owners will have to hope that he can keep it going in the second half.
Jul 11 - 10:02 PM

George Springer was scratched from the Astros starting lineup on Friday.

No word given yet as to the reason for the late scratch. Robbie Grossman will start in his place in center field and hit sixth for the Astros.
Jul 11 - 7:04 PM

Diamoncbacks activated OF Mark Trumbo from the 15-day disabled list.

Trumbo blasted five long balls in his seven rehab games, forcing the Diamondbacks to activate him a few days earlier than originally planned. He is in the lineup and will bat fifth against Tim Lincecum in his return.
