Brewers placed RHP Mark Rogers on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 25, with right shoulder instability.

Rogers has a 7.00 ERA in nine innings this spring and has showed diminished velocity, so he'll work on building his arm strength for the time being. The 27-year-old right-hander is out of options, so something will have to give eventually.

Chris Taylor went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a pair of RBI on Friday, leading the Dodgers to a 8-5 victory over the Tigers.

Taylor delivered a game-tying RBI double in the second inning, then plated Joc Pederson with a two-bagger in the fourth that increased the Dodgers' advantage to 6-3. He also swiped his 14th base of the season in the contest. The 26-year-old is now hitting a mighty impressive .310/.379/.549 with 17 homers and 58 RBI on the season.
Aug 18 - 10:33 PM

Justin Upton had a monster day at the plate in Friday's loss to the Dodgers, going 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three RBI.

Upton opened the scoring in the ballgame with an RBI double off of Rich Hill in the first inning. He then smacked a solo homer that scraped the wall in left field in the third inning, pulling the Tigers to within a run at 4-3. Upton provided a special encore in the ninth, blasting a no-doubter off of Dodgers' star closer Kenley Jansen. He's enjoying a fantastic season overall, slashing .285/.368/.545 with 25 homers and 88 RBI.

Drew Pomeranz left Friday's start against the Yankees due to back spasms.

Pomeranz was forced to exit after tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings. It doesn't sound overly serious, but more should be known about the status for his next start in a couple of days.
Aug 18 - 9:25 PM

Nationals placed RHP Max Scherzer on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 15, with left neck inflammation.

The Nationals are hopeful that he's only going to miss just one additional start, but will obviously play things very cautiously with their star right-hander. Matt Grace is starting in his place against the Padres on Friday.
Aug 18 - 9:19 PM

J.D. Martinez was scratched from the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Friday due to illness.

It doesn't sound like anything too serious, so consider the hard-hitting outfielder day-to-day. Brandon Drury replaced him in the lineup and will bat seventh for the D'Backs against Ervin Santana and the Twins.
Aug 18 - 7:46 PM

Javier Baez launched a two-run homer and added an RBI single in Friday's win over the Blue Jays.

Baez plated a run with a single in the second inning and gave the Cubs some much needed insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth with a long two-run shot off of Tim Mayza. The 24-year-old now has an even 20 home runs on the season, and half of them have come since the All-Star break. He's also hitting .308 in the second half.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that the concern with Trevor Rosenthal (elbow) centers around "the stability of his ligament, and surgery is option."

The level of damage in Rosenthal's ulnar collateral ligament isn't known at this point, but obviously Tommy John surgery would be the worst-case scenario. He's already received one opinion but will get a second before a decision on the next course of action is made. Seung Hwan Oh is back in the closer role for the Cards with Rosenthal sidelined.
Aug 18 - 5:55 PM

Salvador Perez (intercostal) will resume taking batting practice this weekend and could be activated for next week's series versus the Rockies that begins Tuesday.

Perez has slowly ramped up his workouts this week and hasn't experienced any setbacks with his strained right intercostal muscle. He will not require a rehab assignment before returning, so if batting practice goes well this weekend he'll be ready to roll.
Aug 18 - 5:51 PM

Cameron Maybin is not in the Angels' lineup Friday due to right knee soreness.

It's the same knee that sent him to the disabled list last month and has now cost him two straight starts. Consider Maybin day-to-day for now. Ben Revere is in left field and in the leadoff spot.
Aug 18 - 5:40 PM

Kolten Wong was scratched from the Cardinals' lineup Friday due to a hip issue.

He's available off the bench, so it sounds like the Cards are just being cautious. Greg Garcia will step in at second base.
Aug 18 - 5:31 PM

Aroldis Chapman (hamstring) is available out of the Yankees' bullpen Friday.

Chapman tweaked his hamstring Tuesday and wasn't available Wednesday, but he worked out with no issues Thursday and is ready to go. He's struggled of late, but manager Joe Girardi said Friday of the flamethrower that "he's my closer."
