Asdrubal Cabrera (back) isn't ready to resume hitting.

Cabrera hasn't played since Friday due to a back strain. He was originally scheduled to hit Tuesday, but the trainers are giving him an extra day. The expectation is that he'll be fine for Opening Day.

Brian McCann is starting at catcher and batting ninth for the Astros in Tuesday's ALCS Game 4 versus the Yankees.

Evan Gattis got the start behind the plate in Game 3, but it's McCann back in there Tuesday. The Astros also have Carlos Beltran in the designated hitter spot. Their full batting order looks like this: George Springer CF, Josh Reddick RF, Jose Altuve 2B, Carlos Correa SS, Yulieski Gurriel 1B, Alex Bregman 3B, Beltran DH, Marwin Gonzalez LF, McCann C.

Austin Romine is starting at catcher and batting ninth for the Yankees in Tuesday's ALCS Game 4 versus the Astros.

Gary Sanchez, who is in the midst of a 0-for-16 skid, is in the designated hitter spot. That means Jacoby Ellsbury, Chase Headley and Matt Holliday are all on the bench. The Yankees' full lineup is as follows: Brett Gardner LF, Aaron Judge RF, Didi Gregorius SS, Sanchez DH, Greg Bird 1B, Starlin Castro 2B, Aaron Hicks CF, Todd Frazier 3B, Romine C.

Hanley Ramirez underwent surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday.

Ramirez said after the season that he didn't expect to need shoulder surgery even though he's dealt with nagging shoulder issues for a while now. However, obviously something changed. The exact nature of the procedure isn't known at this point, nor is how long he will need to rehab. However, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston hears that the surgery was "considered relatively minor." The Red Sox should eventually reveal more details.

CC Sabathia came up big for the Yankees on Monday, spinning six shutout frames in an 8-1 ALCS Game 3 victory over the Astros.

Sabathia struck out nine while yielding just two runs over 4 1/3 innings in the Yanks’ ALDS Game 5 clincher over the Indians, but he gave the Bombers an even bigger boost in this one. The left-hander walked four batters, but he struck out five and yielded a mere three hits on the night, with none of them going for extra bases. It’s the first time since Pedro Martinez in 2009 that a pitcher 37 years or older went at least six shutout innings in a postseason start. Sabathia would be in line to start Game 7 for the Yankees, should the series get there.
Oct 17 - 12:06 AM

Aaron Judge clubbed a three-run homer in the Yankees' ALCS Game 3 victory over the Astros on Monday.

Judge entered the night hitting just .129/.270/.258 with 19 strikeouts this postseason and he hadn't gone deep since the Wild Card Game versus the Twins. He struck out on three pitches in his first plate appearance, but he walked in the third inning and in the fourth turned around a Will Harris fastball, lining it just over the left-field wall. Judge also had a pair of nice defensive plays, including one where he made a jumping catch before slamming into the outfield wall.

Lance McCullers will start for the Astros in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Yankees on Tuesday.

McCullers gets the call over Brad Peacock, who struggled in his ALDS outing versus the Red Sox. Of course, McCullers has struggled himself for a while now, posting an 8.53 ERA over his final seven starts of the season. That said, he obviously has the stuff to go out and shut the Yankees down if he's on, and manager A.J. Hinch has decided to bet on the upside.

Chad Jennings of the Boston Herald reports that former Tigers manager Brad Ausmus interviewed for the Red Sox' manager job on Monday.

Ausmus, of course, is familiar with Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, having worked under him in Detroit. The former major league catcher went 314-332 in four years as the Tigers' skipper. Astros bench coach Alex Cora is viewed as the favorite to land the Red Sox' job at this point.
Oct 16 - 5:38 PM

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Mets hitting coach Kevin Long is "regarded as the favorite" at this juncture for the team's managerial opening.

It's not a surprise since he's the only one who has interviewed so far. The process figures to be fluid, with Astros bench coach Alex Cora, White Sox bench coach Joe McEwing and former Nationals and Indians skipper Manny Acta all interviewing for the job this week. Long has been a hitting coach in the majors since 2007 with the Yankees and then the Mets and had some minor league managerial experience prior to that.
Oct 16 - 5:08 PM

Luis Severino was not sent for further testing and is in line to start a potential Game 6 of the ALCS.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi mentioned that he had some concern about Severino's right shoulder when he abruptly lifted the pitcher from his Game 2 start after just four innings. The pitcher was also hit on the left wrist by a comebacker in the game. However, Severino said after the contest that he was fine and it appears there's nothing to worry about injury-wise here.
Oct 16 - 4:44 PM

Cameron Maybin is starting in left field and batting ninth for the Astros in Monday's ALCS Game 3 versus the Yankees.

It will be the first start this postseason for Maybin, who will push Marwin Gonzalez to first base and Yulieski Gurriel to the designated hitter spot. Evan Gattis is getting a start at catcher, while Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran are on the bench against left CC Sabathia. The Astros' full lineup looks like this: George Springer CF, Alex Bregman 3B, Jose Altuve 2B, Carlos Correa SS, Gurriel DH, Gattis C, Gonzalez 1B, Josh Reddick RF, Maybin LF.
Oct 16 - 4:38 PM

Chase Headley will serve as the designated hitter for Game 3 of the ALCS against the Astros on Monday.

Headley went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Game 2, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi isn't making any changes with his lineup. The DH spot has been problematic for New York this postseason, but it would be less of a concern if their big bats were hitting. The full lineup for the Yankees against Charlie Morton: Brett Gardner LF, Aaron Judge RF, Didi Gregorius SS, Gary Sanchez C, Greg Bird 1B, Starlin Castro 2B, Aaron Hicks CF, Todd Frazier 3B, Headley DH. CC Sabathia will try to come up big with the Yankees down 0-2 in the series.
