Asdrubal Cabrera (back) isn't ready to resume hitting.

Cabrera hasn't played since Friday due to a back strain. He was originally scheduled to hit Tuesday, but the trainers are giving him an extra day. The expectation is that he'll be fine for Opening Day.

Aaron Nola (back) is only expected to miss 1-2 starts.

Nola felt some soreness in his lower back during his most recent start Thursday against the Mets and it lingered during a side session Sunday, so the Phillies don't want to take any chances. He could return as soon as next Monday. Ty Kelly is expected to take his place on the active roster, but Nick Pivetta will likely take his spot in the rotation on Wednesday.

Angels acquired RHP David Hernandez from the Braves for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The Angels are missing Cam Bedrosian, Huston Street, Andrew Bailey, and Mike Morin to injury at the moment, so Hernandez will provide an experienced arm for the bullpen. The 31-year-old had a 1.12 ERA and 9/2 K/BB ratio over eight innings with the Braves' Triple-A affiliate. He could join the major league roster soon.
Apr 24 - 1:22 PM

Mets manager Terry Collins said after Sunday's game that Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring) told him he'll be ready for Tuesday.

Cespedes sat out the entire weekend series against the Nationals due to a sore left hamstring, but he was available as a pinch-hitter for Sunday's game and was in the on-deck circle before the final out. It's not a sure thing he'll be ready for Tuesday, as the Mets will have him go through a pre-game workout before making a final decision. Still, he's sorely missed at the moment, as the Mets have dropped eight out of their last nine.
Apr 24 - 8:36 AM

Daniel Murphy belted a grand slam in the first inning on Sunday, powering the Nationals to a 6-3 victory over the Mets and a three-game sweep of the weekend series.

A hit-batsmen, an infield single and a sharp single loaded the bases in the first inning and Murphy unloaded them by taking Zack Wheeler over the wall in right-center on a 1-0 pitch. It was his only hit in four at-bats on Sunday but proved to be the difference. He's now hitting .324/.359/.541 with three homers and 14 RBI on the season.
Apr 23 - 10:55 PM

Max Scherzer earned his third victory of the season on Sunday night, limiting the Mets to three runs on five hits over his eight frames.

The reigning National League Cy Young award winner racked up nine strikeouts on the night while walking only one. All of the damage against him came via the long ball, with Michael Conforto swatting a leadoff homer and Neil Walker adding a two-run blast in the third. He was in complete command after that though and retired the final 16 hitters he faced. Scherzer now sports a fantastic 1.98 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 33/8 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings. He'll do battle against the Mets again his next time out at home on Friday.
Apr 23 - 10:55 PM

Shelby Miller (forearm) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday.

The right-hander was lifted from Sunday's start in the fifth inning after experiencing tightness in his forearm. He admitted after the ballgame that it's the first time he's ever had an issue like this with his pitching arm and manager Torey Louvullo admitted that the team is very concerned. Expect an update on his status after the D'Backs get the results of that exam on Monday.
Apr 23 - 9:16 PM

Nelson Cruz went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, five RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 11-1 win over the A's.

Monster showing from Cruz in this one. He started off his RBI binge in modest enough fashion, driving home a run via a bases-loaded walk in the third inning. He opted to forego the modesty a few innings later, slugging a three-run home run in the seventh to boost the Mariners to a 9-1 advantage. Just for good measure, he tacked on an RBI double in the ninth. The veteran slugger has yet to go on a power tear, but that could be coming soon. Cruz has picked up hits in eight of his last 10 games, with all three of his home runs coming in that space. He has crushed at least 40 in each of the last three seasons.
Apr 23 - 8:25 PM

Taylor Motter went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and a double in Sunday's 11-1 win over the A's.

Motter unloaded for the grand slam against the previously-untouchable Andrew Triggs in the third inning. That gave the Mariners a 6-1 lead, one which the A's were unable to ever challenge to any serious degree. The 27-year-old shortstop owns a .255/.321/.667 triple-slash to pair with five home runs and 12 RBI across 51 at-bats. His start has been one of the more surprising in the bigs to date.
Apr 23 - 8:17 PM

Marcus Stroman tossed a complete game in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Angels, surrendering two runs (one earned) on seven hits.

Second complete game of the season for Stroman, who struck out five and walked one on the afternoon. He surrendered solitary runs in the third and ninth innings, but otherwise kept the scoreboard clean. This was a huge rebound performance for Stroman, who was rocked for six runs on 11 hits by the Red Sox in his last outing. He will try to replicate Sunday's result in a home start against the Rays next time he toes the rubber.
Apr 23 - 6:43 PM

Joc Pederson was removed from Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks due to right groin tightness.

It's unclear when exactly the outfielder sustained the injury or how much time he may stand to miss. Kike Hernandez replaced him in center field on Sunday and would stand to see additional playing time if Pederson is forced to miss any time.
Apr 23 - 6:31 PM

Shelby Miller was forced to leave Sunday's start against the Dodgers due to an undisclosed injury.

The right-hander received a visit from the team's trainer during the fifth inning where the decision was made to pull him. He had hurled four shutout innings entering the fifth before walking the first two hitters and giving up an RBI double to Corey Seager. Expect an update from the Diamondbacks on his status after the conclusion of Sunday's game.
