Franklin Morales (back) is scheduled to throw off a mound Saturday.

This will be his first time throwing off a mound since being shut down with a bulging disk in his back earlier this month. Barring any setbacks, the 27-year-old could make his way back to Boston's bullpen in the early part of the season.

According to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi, the Blue Jays will activate Devon Travis (shoulder) on Wednesday.

Travis went 1-for-5 with an RBI double Tuesday at Triple-A Buffalo in what will go down as his final minor league rehab game. The dynamic second baseman hasn't made a plate appearance for the Blue Jays since last July 28, when his left shoulder began barking for the second time. He would eventually require major surgery, but his rehab from that procedure was relatively smooth. Travis, 25, carries big-time fantasy upside and should be owned in most mixed leagues.

Denard Span has been scratched from the Giants' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Padres.

No word yet on the reason for the sudden absence. Gregor Blanco is now starting in center field and batting leadoff against Padres right-hander James Shields. Kelby Tomlinson will get a rate start in left field.
May 25 - 1:34 PM

Wil Myers (forearm) is out again Wednesday.

Myers felt discomfort in his troublesome left forearm late Monday while picking up a baseball. It's not considered a serious setback, but the Padres will play it cautiously just in case. Brett Wallace is at first base Wednesday versus Giants righty Jake Peavy.
May 25 - 1:31 PM

Asdrubal Cabrera is day-to-day with back spasms.

Cabrera left Wednesday's game against the Nationals in the bottom of the first inning, with Matt Reynolds taking over at shortstop. Asdrubal apparently felt the discomfort during pregame warmups. This doesn't sound like a serious issue, but you never know with the Mets and their recent rash of back issues.
May 25 - 1:28 PM

Hunter Pence (hamstring) remains absent from the Giants' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon.

Pence has been dealing with right hamstring discomfort since Saturday and told reporters Tuesday that he plans to take it easy and let the muscle fully heal. There's a chance he could return Friday after Thursday's scheduled off day, but it's not guaranteed. Jarrett Parker is starting in left field and Gregor Blanco is in right field Wednesday versus Padres right-hander James Shields.
May 25 - 1:25 PM

Buster Posey is not in the Giants' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon against the Padres.

It's just a standard day of rest for Posey. Trevor Brown will get the start at catcher and bat eighth with the Padres throwing right-hander James Shields.
May 25 - 1:22 PM

Athletics activated 2B Jed Lowrie from the 15-day disabled list.

Lowrie wound up missing exactly 15 days with a bruised right shin. The second baseman returns Wednesday to a cool .302/.341/.345 batting line with 17 RBI in 32 games.
May 25 - 1:03 PM

Matt Carpenter is out of the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday because his wife is about to have a baby.

It seemed odd that the Cards would rest their best left-handed hitter against Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta. Now we have a good reason for the absence. Ruben Tejada is starting at third base and batting eighth in the afternoon tilt at Busch Stadium. Kolten Wong will take a turn at leadoff.
May 25 - 12:57 PM

Francisco Lindor is out of the Indians' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the White Sox.

It's a simple day of maintenance for Lindor. Jose Ramirez will draw the start at shortstop and bat third Wednesday versus White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana.
May 25 - 11:56 AM

Mike Moustakas will have his bruised knee examined by team doctors on Thursday in Kansas City.

Moustakas has been held out of the Royals' starting lineup since banging his knee against Alex Gordon on Sunday afternoon in Chicago. Gordon took the brunt of that collision -- he's already been placed on the disabled list with a broken scaphoid bone in his right wrist -- but Moustakas is now having serious problems too. Per beat writer Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com, the third baseman was able to take swings Wednesday but had issues doing any sort of lateral movement. He could soon join Gordon on the DL. Cheslor Cuthbert is starting at the hot corner Wednesday afternoon in Minnesota.
May 25 - 11:50 AM

Matt Harvey will take his next turn in the Mets' rotation Monday versus the White Sox.

There was some talk of skipping Harvey or even trying a phantom disabled list stint after he got lit up for five runs over five innings Tuesday against the Nationals. The right-hander has allowed 19 runs -- 16 earned -- over his last 13 1/3 innings (three starts) and owns a rough 6.08 ERA for the year. But there will be no drastic changes yet.
